Holiday dressing can be tricky territory. There’s a fine line between festive and fashion faux pas, but that’s no reason not to get dressed up. If there is ever a time to lean into your boldest attire and don your finest jewels, it’s now. The trick to holiday dressing is to balance sophistication and trendy style, and that means getting your jewelry choices just right. Ultimately, the key to refined holiday dressing is keeping it consistent. Let your jewels and outfit work together by embracing a monochromatic look that still reads incredibly festive.

Black on black When you really want your jewels to stand out, look no further than an all-black ensemble. Not only universally elegant, wearing head-to-toe black is a foolproof way to ensure you look sophisticated and chic when you have a million other things on your mind (which, let’s face it, during the holidays you probably do). This is also a great opportunity to play with textures and proportions that add interest to your look. In terms of jewels, we recommend sticking to one metal (like rich gold) to create a beautiful contrast and really stand out.

Winter white Counter to what many might think, white is arguably one of the most festive colors. It’s less expected than green, red, or blue, yet evokes feelings of winter’s first frost or memories of white Christmases (for those who celebrate) — especially when paired with the right gems. For this look, opt for jewels as crisp as the color: flawless diamonds with unique cuts and distinct designs, all set in a gorgeous silver or platinum. And don’t worry — you won’t be breaking any fashion rules, especially when you look this good.

Clockwise from top left: Alson Signature Collection 14K White Gold Diamond Necklace $29,750. Alson Signature Collection Double Linear Dangle Earrings in 18K White Gold $9,880. JB Star Diamond Bypass Ring in Platinum $22,990. Penny Preville Diamond Bypass Cuff in 18K White Gold $12,320.

Going green Channel the spirit of the season by opting for lush green attire. Evoking tones of both mistletoe and emeralds, wearing green makes incorporating jewel tones to your look seamless, and makes them feel incredibly festive (but not overbearing). And whether through your stones or your garb, one thing’s for certain: others will be green with envy.

Monochromatic looks are hitting the right note when it comes to both wardrobe and jewels for holiday styling this year. Characterized by a harmonious color palette of a singular hue, monochromatic jewels add an elevated yet understated touch to any holiday look. When paired with an on-trend outfit or dress of the same color and tone, you can achieve fashion perfection.

Suite success The easiest way to really nail the monochromatic look is to opt for a

matching jewelry suite. Typically, a full suite includes a necklace, earrings, bracelet, and ring. You don’t have to wear a complete suite, so long as your jewelry all shares the same aesthetic. While some schools of thought argue against matching jewels, the holidays — a time with an overwhelming amount of adornment and wardrobe variety — are a time when you can contribute some consistency to the madness. Plus, matching pieces from a suite make getting organized and ready for a season of celebrations and social outings that much easier, all while ensuring you look fabulous from head-to-toe in monochrome.

PICKLEBALL TAKING THE WORLD BY STORM

F rom YMCAs to driveways, from school playgrounds to country club courts, a new sport has emerged, and it’s captivating people of all ages and fitness levels. Pickleball, a hybrid of tennis, badminton, and ping pong, with its fast-paced action, easy accessibility, and addictive gameplay is taking the world by storm. What started as a niche backyard activity has now evolved into a juggernaut, attracting millions of enthusiasts worldwide. Pickleball’s origins can be traced back to the mid-1960s when it was invented by three dads on Bainbridge Island, Washington. Named after the family dog, Pickles, who would often chase the ball and run off with it, the sport quickly spread around their local community. Fast forward to today and pickleball has become a global phenomenon, played on dedicated courts, in community centers, and even at professional tournaments. One of the key factors contributing to pickleball’s exponential growth is its accessibility. Unlike some traditional sports, pickleball is easy to learn and can be played by people of all ages and athletic abilities. The court is smaller than a tennis court, and the lightweight paddles and plastic balls are more forgiving, making it less physically demanding on the body. This accessibility has made pickleball a popular choice for older adults looking to stay active and socialize.

32 ALSON JEWELERS MAGAZINE

Another reason for the rapid rise in popularity is its addictive and fast-paced gameplay. The combination of some of the best parts of several racket sports, pickleball is a unique and exciting experience. The game features strategic shot placement, quick reflexes, and intense rallies, keeping players engaged and constantly on their toes. It’s this combination of skill and excitement that has captured the hearts of both recreational players and competitive athletes.

The community aspect of pickleball has also played a significant role in the sport’s growth. With the rise of social media and online platforms, players from around the world can connect, share their experiences, and organize events. This shared connection has fostered a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, making pickleball an ideal sport for building friendships and networks. Professional pickleball tournaments have also emerged, attracting top athletes, further boosting the sport’s visibility. As the sport gains more recognition, it’s likely to attract even larger audiences and sponsorship opportunities, elevating it to new heights. As the sport continues to evolve, it’s clear that pickleball is here to stay. So grab a paddle, find a court, and join the pickleball revolution today!

FANCY FINGERS

W earing multiple rings isn’t an entirely new concept — different cultures around the world have long embraced it as a symbol of wealth, power, and social status — but the practice has evolved to become more about personal expression than anything else. The availability of rings with minimal jewels, perfect for matching and stacking, has fulfilled this individualistic inclination and made it more accessible than ever. Plus, the desire to breathe new life into antique, vintage, or sentimental pieces has rendered the multi-finger ring trend even more popular, allowing wearers to blend the old and the new in a meaningful and fashion-forward way. Out of all of the ring styles, the pinky ring has arguably made the biggest comeback. Designers have experimented with the pinky ring as a canvas for many different styles, some as traditional signets or talismans and others with the spotlight on gemstones or diamonds. There is a wide range of designs to suit every personal preference or sentiment. As an added bonus, the pinky ring carries no connotation of gender, so it’s widely embraced. With all of the possibilities when it comes to ring styling, wearing multiple rings makes the trend feel particularly personal, adaptable, and fresh — and one that’s here to stay.

MARCO BICEGO ACADEMY

TRAINING THE NEXT GENERATION OF MASTER GOLDSMITHS

M arco Bicego, the renowned Italian fine jewelry brand celebrated for its nature- inspired collections, has embarked on an extraordinary new journey: the Marco Bicego Academy, a prestigious training program designed to nurture and develop new master goldsmiths and professional jewelry artisans. This unique initiative combines formal classroom teaching, structured hands-on training, and personalized coaching to enhance the brand’s specialized production capacity and create a legacy for generations to come. In collaboration with recruitment agency Gi Group and the Vicenza Professional School of Art and Crafts, the academy has initiated a comprehensive artisan recruiting and selection process to identify talented individuals to learn the revered craft of goldsmithing. Throughout an intensive and immersive 120-hour training program, artisans learn and develop their handcrafting skills under careful guidance from the industry’s finest. By passing on this old-world technique to the next generation, Marco Bicego is enshrining its heritage and influencing jewelry-making for decades. “The importance of learning and mastering a craft seems to be a recommendation from the past,” says Marco Bicego, founder and creative director of the eponymous brand. “Instead, it is very current, and it can be prestigious.”

Marco Bicego, founder and creative director.

“We have launched this academy to enhance the quality of our work and make our territory attractive again,” he says. “It is part of our mission to preserve and elevate historical savoir-faire, supporting the bond with our local community and the territory where our goldsmith tradition originates.” From backgrounds diverse in experience and expertise, every artisan to attend the academy embarks on a transformative journey, mastering old-world techniques. One of those techniques is burin engraving, an exquisite distinctive handcrafted process synonymous with the brand’s heritage. Relying on an ancient tool, the burin engraving technique dates back to the 15th century, with Maso Finiguerra being one of the first notable Italian goldsmiths to utilize the process. With quick, meticulous motions, artisans scratch into gold, leaving behind fine lines that produce a smooth yet captivating brushed texture. More than 5,000 hand movements go into each design, and no two pieces are alike. That makes each necklace, earring, and ring one-of-a-kind. Bicego is revered for his ability to fuse ancient traditions with contemporary creativity. He has developed this signature style that resonates with women seeking refined yet unconventional luxury for their everyday lives. His designs draw inspiration from the organic shapes found in nature, the allure of 18k yellow gold, and the captivating radiance of precious gemstones. Present in more than 50 countries worldwide, Marco Bicego has become one of the world’s most prestigious jewelry brands. Now, as the company embarks on this remarkable journey to nurture a new generation of master artisans, the brand reaffirms its commitment to excellence, innovation, and the preservation of time-honored craftsmanship.

Each gem is hand-selected, whether it’s a stunning 10-carat canary diamond or a quarter-carat brilliant-cut white diamond accent stone. Only the finest diamonds are selected. That’s the Rahaminov Diamonds promise, and it is the reason for the company’s success, which is built on honesty, integrity, and trust.

DIAMONDS

Rahaminov pieces are timeless. They have an elegance that is always in fashion. Each piece of jewelry is created around a particular stone, according to the Rahaminov motto: “Where the diamond inspires the design.” Designer and co-founder Tamara Rahaminov Goldfiner is patient with each gem, waiting for inspiration to guide her to create the perfect piece. Every design is a genuine labor of love.

HAPPILY EVER AFTER

BY ANNIE DAVIDSON

quiet luxury WHEN IT COMES TO BRIDAL JEWELS, EXTRAVAGANCE AND OPULENCE HAVE LONG TAKEN CENTER STAGE; THE BIGGER AND BOLDER THE STONE, THE BETTER. HOWEVER, A NEW SENTIMENT IS SLOWLY BUT SURELY MAKING ITS PRESENCE KNOWN IN THE BRIDAL JEWELRY MARKET: QUIET LUXURY.

Quiet luxury is a concept that represents a refined and understated approach to finer things. It revolves around the idea that true sophistication does not require flashy displays of wealth or excessive ornamentation. Instead, quiet luxury focuses on subtle details, craftsmanship, and quality materials to create a sense of exclusivity and timeless appeal. It’s a trend (or in many ways, an anti-trend) that’s developed in conjunction with cultural moments, including the rise in popularity of Succession during its final season, and Gwyneth Paltrow’s style during her recent, widely-aired court hearings. As such, discerning brides are choosing bridal jewelry that speaks more through subtle sophistication rather than flashy displays of wealth. Where the most popular bridal designs over the past decade have been ornate pieces with pavé diamond halos and heavy vintage detailing, simple solitaires and pear- and emerald-cuts in east-west settings are starting to take their place. The focus now is on craftsmanship, quality materials, and meaningful design, rather than extravagant gemstones and excessive ornamentation. Brides are looking to tell stories through simplicity — whether it’s giving more space for a stone that’s been passed down, or a heightened interest in sustainability — and pushing back on overindulgence.

Sustainability has, in fact, contributed to the rise of quiet luxury. With the increasing demand for sustainable and ethical practices within the fashion industry, modern brides are showing a heightened awareness of the impact their choices have on the environment and the workers who create these beautiful pieces. Therefore, they’re opting for less in more ways than one, from design all the way down to practices and materials. By opting for such jewelry, brides can indulge in their jewels while contributing to a more sustainable and responsible future — which to many, is the ultimate luxury. Moving forward, it’s evident that the era of ostentatious bridal jewelry is giving way to a more refined and heartfelt approach. Quiet luxury is not merely a trend; it’s a shift in mindset towards mindful and conscious consumption, where meaning and craftsmanship trump material excess. Designs, therefore, are getting more adventurous, with brides opting for more unique cuts (marquise, for example, seems to be more popular now than ever before), settings, and even colored stones, while still maintaining a focus on minimalism.

Brides are redefining their relationship with jewelry, choosing pieces that are not only beautiful but also tell their unique stories. As quiet luxury continues to shape the bridal industry, it reminds us that sometimes, the most powerful things aren’t necessarily the loudest.

CAR CRAZY

Jerry ’ s New Porsche

The 1999 Porsche 911 Classic Club Coupe Sonderwunsch Factory One-Off underwent a total factory restoration and modification under the direction of the Porsche Club of America. It toured the country for a year before being auctioned at the Porsche 75th Anniversary Auction by Broad Arrow Auctions in June. Seinfeld, who already has one of the most impressive collections of Porsches in private hands, won the bidding at $1.3 million, including the buyer’s premium. The 911 Classic Club Coupe, offered at no reserve, was only available for purchase by PCA members, which Seinfeld has been for more than 30 years.

T he car represents a singular vision of what a Porsche 911 could be. The 911 Classic Club Coupe is a one-of-one Sonderwunsch (special wishes) project completed by Porsche Classic in collaboration with the Porsche Club of America (PCA). That this is a unique car will not surprise anyone who sees it, but a “No. 001/001” badge on the dashboard underscores its scarcity. A ducktail spoiler reminiscent of the 1972 911 Carrera RS 2.7, a double-bubble roof, 18-inch forged aluminum Fuchs wheels, and unique paint combine to create a striking resemblance to the Type 997 911 Sport Classic. Those looks are only part of the story. It was inspired by the 2010 Porsche 911 Sport Classic and the current 911 Sport Classic and designed by Style Porsche Director of Special Projects, Grant Larson, in collaboration with the Porsche Club of America. The two groups discussed what could have occurred had Porsche’s special manufacturing unit and the PCA worked together in previous decades. They looked back at the 2010 911 Sport Classic, Porsche’s first Exclusive Manufaktur series production model. That inspiration led to a question: What would a prequel to the 2010 911 Sport Classic look like? Larson, designer of the Carrera GT Case Study, the 2012 911 Sport Classic, and the 2023 911 Sport Classic while serving as director of special projects at Style Porsche, involved himself from the beginning. Larson sketched out his vision of a proto-Sport Classic from Style Porsche in Stuttgart. At the same time, PCA Executive Director Vu Nguyen searched for the right donor vehicle. Ultimately, a 1999 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe was located in Virginia. Shortly thereafter, the 911 Coupe was flown back to Stuttgart- Zuffenhausen to begin the transformation from “just” a classic 911 to a 911 Classic Club Coupe. Revealed in 2022 at PCA’s Werks Reunion gathering on Amelia Island, the 911 Classic Club Coupe toured the country that year, visiting PCA events such as the Porsche Parade in the Poconos, Porsche Sports Car Together Fest at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Werks Reunion Monterey, and ünStock. Based on a 1998 911 Carrera, the chassis, brakes, and engine are taken from the 996.2 911 GT3, the first such model homologated for sale in the U.S. Accordingly, the naturally aspirated 3.6-liter flat-six generates 381 horsepower. The donor car, which PCA Executive Director Vu Nguyen found in a state of neglect in Colombia, Virginia, traveled to the Porsche Classic workshop near the main plant in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, where it was originally built. There, it underwent a complete restoration, including total disassembly and strengthening of the body-in-white using original and newly developed parts. One question in car collecting circles is, how much does celebrity ownership add to the value of a car? Auto auction experts can point to a Jerry Seinfeld effect based on previous sales. When Seinfeld sells cars from his collection, they bring, on average, 47 percent more than the average Porsche of a comparable example. Seinfeld spent several times more on this car than similar cars, but who can put a price on a one-of-a-kind? COMEDIAN JERRY SEINFELD, A NOTED PORSCHE COLLECTOR, MASTERED HIS DOMAIN — AGAIN — WHEN HE WON THE HIGH BID FOR AN EXTRAORDINARY PORSCHE.

JEWELRY + MEN

We’re living in a golden age of personal expression, trending across race, gender, age, and status, and that means there’s never been a better time for men to flex with some well-chosen jewelry. Here are a few suggestions to help dapper dudes start — or add to — their collections.

Necklaces are a fantastic category for men to consider. A chain of any length and size can be tucked inside a shirt for an understated approach or pulled free to drape proudly across the chest. Smaller links give a subtle look, while chunky chains have a bold beauty of their own. Many men’s pendants feature silhouettes inspired by dog tags to evoke the qualities of strength, bravery, and honor associated with traditional military styles. Layering allows for maximum versatility and self-expression: wear one necklace alone or stack a few together to build your own look. Wristwear is another jewelry genre for the modern man. Like watches, bracelets are visible when worn but won’t get in a busy guy’s way as he goes about his day. From the chic gleam of a sleek cuff peeking out from a tailored shirtsleeve to the compelling texture of a leather bracelet accentuating a powerful forearm, there are many options available for the man who wants to try rocking a bracelet. A well-chosen chain will go with any outfit, while beaded and braided styles can be a great way to add some flair to a bracelet without making it feel overly fussy. We can’t talk about men’s jewelry without mentioning rings. Many men are already comfortable wearing a wedding band, so why not consider acquiring a wardrobe of alternate wedding bands to switch up the mood for different occasions? If we look beyond the fourth finger of the left hand, many men find themselves drawn to signet rings. These hefty, bold, often personalized pieces date back to ancient times, when a nobleman would wear a signet with his official seal to mark correspondence. Today, signet rings are usually engraved with initials or meaningful symbols, or set with gems. Decorative knives are another great way to express personal style. They are often made by experienced jewelry designers and can display truly luxurious craftsmanship. Beautiful blades, adorned handles, and thoughtful details make these pieces of weaponry feel more like portable art than mere tools. Today, men who wear jewelry are associated with power and panache; throughout history, jewelry has been worn by kings, pirates, rock stars, and trendsetters. Not convinced or need more style inspo? Look up photos of the Rock, Harry Styles, and Usher, and check out how good these famous jewelry- loving men look when they wear their treasures in real life.

TIME THE MANY COLORS OF

LUXURY WATCHMAKERS HAVE DISCOVERED THE POWER OF COLOR!

Bold colored straps and dials were once the trademark of quartz fashion watches, but now luxury watch brands have discovered the color wheel, and they are taking it to the next level. It’s no longer just about pink straps and purple tinted dials — although there is plenty of that — but infusing components of the watch with permanent color. That means new case materials, anodized or illuminated bridges and other components of the movement, colored dial plates that have been treated with vibrant enamel and miniature painting, and, of course, plenty of dazzling gem setting, including various applications of rainbow sapphires. The result is a blast of intense, joyful, edgy color that is beyond refreshing. The combination of hand-craftsmanship, mechanical movements, precious metals, colorful gemstones and high- watchmaking finishes such as grand feu, champlevé, or plique-à-jour enamel are a winning formula. Not only do they add up to unrivalled beauty but they also add value. That makes luxury watches more collectible and sought- after by aficionados than ever before. Among the new introductions for ladies, pink is hot right now — to match your pink diamonds! — and purple is emerging in unlikely places, not just on ladies’ watches but on some daring men’s pieces. The hottest colors for men include blue, green, and salmon. Salmon is especially interesting from a collectible point of view. The color is often used on special editions, with high complications or platinum cases — watches that are very limited and highly coveted. Salmon dials are also a craze in the vintage sector — the color was popular in the 1940s, and pieces made by luxury brands from that period are hot. Here are a few examples of how color is heating up the luxury watch market right now.

ROLEX OYSTER PERPETUAL CELEBRATION Rolex has pulled out all the creative stops in its 2023 collection, including this joyful take on the traditional Oyster Perpetual. The dial is lacquered with 51 bubbles in bright colors: turquoise blue, candy pink, yellow, coral, red, and green. Each color is applied and fired separately, followed by the application of black lacquer borders on each bubble. Sizes begin small, at 31 mm, and there are also 36 mm and 41 mm sizes. All cases are steel, and movements are automatic.
