F or nearly two centuries, Chicago has been a bustling city full of life, adventure, and culture. From its humble beginnings as a trading post in the late 18th century, Chicago has risen to be one of the most iconic cities in the world, boasting hundreds of stunning sculptures and some of the most incredible architecture in the western hemisphere. Famously nicknamed The Windy City, our beloved metropolis is full of gems that truly make Chicago a place unlike any other. But how did this all happen? Where did all these ideas start?

From inception, Chicago leaders and visionaries imagined a city that lives for the future — a city full of potential and shining brilliance. Following the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, architects throughout the city set out to create a metropolis worth the map dot. Among this group were Daniel Burnham and John Wellborn Root, who teamed up to change the character and aesthetics of architecture throughout the city over the next two decades. Unfortunately, Root’s premature passing ended the partnership in 1892. Yet, their work and unique craftsmanship are

still on display in many iconic gems around the city — The Staypineapple Hotel, the Rookery Building, and the Egyptian-inspired Monadnock building, just to name a few. In a similar fashion, architect Frank Lloyd Wright shared his visions, designing homes and buildings throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Following the work of his mentor Louis Sullivan, Wright mastered the art of fluid-organic ornamentation, coupling it

with his love for nature. The result? Grand structures with unique ties to the natural landscape.

Today, modern and traditional architecture stand side-by-side, reflecting the city’s rich history and vision for a bright and shiny future. Yet, these buildings don’t just inspire a bustling city, they also inspire many of the jewelry designs you’ll find at C.D. Peacock. Like these famous architects, our jewelry artisans design and craft adornments with precision and skill. The result? One-of-a-kind jewelry pieces that reflect the past yet hold visions for the future. For us, these similarities are undeniable.
