S ince the early 1990s, Hosanna House has united people and resources with a single purpose in mind: ending a life cycle of poverty and helping individuals and families reach their maximum potential.Working within economically-distressed communities such as Wilkinsburg, Penn Hills, Swissvale, and many more, Hosanna House aims to create an environment where hope can grow and families flourish. One of the many ways they are achieving this goal is through direct services, such as childcare and after-school programs throughout the academic year, as well as camps in the summertime. Hosanna House has a passion for increasing children’s exposure to educational learning opportunities, specifically in STEM fields, such as robotics and aviation technology, to give them a competitive edge. They aim to empower, support, and inspire their children to reach beyond what their public education and community have been able to provide for them, and pursue careers that they may have not been exposed to otherwise. Leon, the founding CEO of Hosanna House, says, “My definition of success for these children is that when they leave our care, they will be ready to confidently move forward with the skills we have provided and that 0% will need to rely on welfare services, outside of a crisis situation, in their adult life.” Hosanna House continues to create an environment where parents feel empowered to succeed through the direct services they have received for their children as well as supportive housing, health services and job placement opportunities. Hosanna House desires for their families to build relationships fueled by trust, enjoyment, and mutual understanding, and to give families a place to celebrate their achievements in their safe and clean community venue. These services tremendously impact the quality of life for 350 children daily, over 2,000 children in the summer and the 50,000 people who come through their doors annually. Hosanna House has many on-the-ground volunteer opportunities available, including one-to-one mentorship and tutoring, and welcomes financial support and additional opportunity resources for their educational programs. “An investment into our children now will reap generational benefits for their lives, their families and the future of our city,” Leon says.
