VENETIAN PRINCESS

FROM OUR FAMILY TO YOURS

Thank you for sharing life’s greatest celebrations with us!

A s a new year swiftly approaches, Ed and I would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for your steadfast support and enduring friendship. We look forward to celebrating the holidays with clients both new and returning, and ushering in a new year full of love, laughter, and joy. Throughout our journey, Weston Jewelers has been so fortunate to share in the significant milestones in our clients’ lives including engagements, weddings, and anniversaries to birthdays, quinceañeras, and graduations. In return, we are lucky to share important occasions in our own family’s lives with our clients and dear friends, including welcoming our children into the family business.

Ed and I opened our first store together in 2001, within the heart of the Weston Town Center, and have built our business by offering an exceptional client experience. Two decades later, we have the privilege of working alongside our kids. Jesse manages our Hard Rock location and oversees the operations of our Hublot Boutique, while Danni plays a pivotal role in handling all aspects of social media and marketing for our stores. We are immensely proud to guide our children as they embrace the industry we love, and we are confident that they will make their own marks while taking the business to new heights. Perhaps the true backbone of our business is the incredible team we consider family working on the floor and in the back of the stores. Their

success is our success, and we owe much of our growth to their hard work, enthusiasm, and loyalty. We feel anyone who walks through our doors, be it an employee or potential new client, immediately becomes a friend for life, and we so look forward to welcoming new clients into the Weston Jewelers family in 2024. We cannot express our gratitude enough for your unwavering support and cherished friendship. Thank you for another fabulous year and for choosing Weston Jewelers as your trusted jeweler. We look forward to toasting with you over spritz and sparkles for many happy and healthy years to come. With warm regards and heartfelt thanks Tracey and Ed Dikes

ROLEX & THE OPEN: GOLF’S OLDEST MAJOR

Traditionally contested in the United Kingdom during the third week of July, The Open is the fourth and final men’s Major. Associated with this competition since 1981, Rolex is today a privileged partner of world golf.

BVLGARI SERPENTI SPIGA

With the introduction of Serpenti Spiga, Serpenti rises again, a forever- icon, reinvented anew this season. A symbol of perpetual renewal, Serpenti, the captivating snake, is one of Bvlgari’s most enduring motifs. And in the world of Bvlgari watches, Serpenti’s iconic wrapping bracelet watches represent the ultimate synthesis of jewelry craftsmanship — timepieces that are jewels in every facet of their creation. As the latest wrapping bracelet watch in a saga that began with Serpenti Scaglie in 2009 and continued with Serpenti Tubogas in 2010 and the original Serpenti Spiga designs from 2014, the three new Serpenti Spiga editions represent an evolution of the Serpenti style — one that could only come from the Roman Jeweller of Time. Crafted in exquisite gold and diamonds and featuring an intricate matelassé pattern, they represent Bvlgari’s unique ability to redraw the boundaries of creativity, refinement, and expertise. Taking inspiration from a heritage timepiece from 1957 with a square-shaped face and dial and a modular construction bracelet wrapping around the wrist, this

latest Serpenti interpretation joins the family as a masterpiece of craftsmanship, boldly epitomising what a jewelery watch can be. As the new face of Serpenti, the design of these innovative snakes entwines the chic matelassé pattern with jewelery-making artistry and intrinsic wearability, for a look that is rich with Serpenti seduction.

JEWELRY + MEN

We’re living in a golden age of personal expression, trending across race, gender, age, and status, and that means there’s never been a better time for men to flex with some well-chosen jewelry. Here are a few suggestions to help dapper dudes start — or add to — their collections.

men’s movement

Necklaces are a fantastic category for men to consider. A chain of any length and size can be tucked inside a shirt for an understated approach or pulled free to drape proudly across the chest. Smaller links give a subtle look, while chunky chains have a bold beauty of their own. Many men’s pendants feature silhouettes inspired by dog tags to evoke the qualities of strength, bravery, and honor associated with traditional military styles. Layering allows for maximum versatility and self-expression: wear one necklace alone or stack a few together to build your own look. Wristwear is another jewelry genre for the modern man. Like watches, bracelets are visible when worn but won’t get in a busy guy’s way as he goes about his day. From the chic gleam of a sleek cuff peeking out from a tailored shirtsleeve to the compelling texture of a leather bracelet accentuating a powerful forearm, there are many options available for the man who wants to try rocking a bracelet. A well-chosen chain will go with any outfit, while beaded and braided styles can be a great way to add some flair to a bracelet without making it feel overly fussy. We can’t talk about men’s jewelry without mentioning rings. Many men are already comfortable wearing a wedding band, so why not consider acquiring a wardrobe of alternate wedding bands to switch up the mood for different occasions? If we look beyond the fourth finger of the left hand, many men find themselves drawn to signet rings. These hefty, bold, often personalized pieces date back to ancient times, when a nobleman would wear a signet with his official seal to mark correspondence. Today, signet rings are usually engraved with initials or meaningful symbols, or set with gems. Decorative knives are another great way to express personal style. They are often made by experienced jewelry designers and can display truly luxurious craftsmanship. Beautiful blades, adorned handles, and thoughtful details make these pieces of weaponry feel more like portable art than mere tools. Today, men who wear jewelry are associated with power and panache; throughout history, jewelry has been worn by kings, pirates, rock stars, and trendsetters. Not convinced or need more style inspo? Look up photos of the Rock, Harry Styles, and Usher, and check out how good these famous jewelry- loving men look when they wear their treasures in real life.

FUNNY MAN

BY MARC MYERS

Sebastian Maniscalco, 50, is a stand-up comedian and actor who is lighting up arenas around the country with his outlandish comedic style.

MANISCALCO SEBASTIAN SPEAKS

A t the start of sixth grade, I sat in a cool girl’s seat in the back of the school bus. When she got on, she ordered me to get up and go to the front. Making my way forward, I was peppered with spitballs to the back of my head. But soon, I made all the kids on the bus laugh and was welcome in the back. I was a shy kid and never vied for attention by being funny. It was a way to be accepted. My family lived in a two-story, white-brick house in the Arlington Heights suburb of Chicago.

Dad was a women’s hairstylist who owned three beauty salons. Working on women’s hair allowed him to make more than he would have as a barber. My mom, Rose, was a homemaker before she worked part time at my elementary school as a secretary. Mom grew up in the States, but my father emigrated from Italy with his parents when he was 15. He was more Americanized than many of my cousins and grandparents. Being in the beauty business, he had to be.

26 WESTON JEWELERS MAGAZINE

My sister, Jessica, is five years younger than me and my best friend today. Growing up, our family had its own sense of humor. Comedy was collaborative. One of us would tell a story while the others added to it, and we’d all laugh. The unspoken credo in our house was never disappoint or embarrass your family. To this day, I never do anything that would cause my mother or father to say, “What the heck are you doing?” If you asked my father and mother, they’d tell you that I was almost parenting myself in conjunction with them. This isn’t to say I never did anything wrong, but I was a good kid. Food was a big deal at home. My dad cooked special dishes during the December holidays, but my mom managed the house and did most of the cooking. Trying a lot of different types of food was encouraged. I was

seven minutes, and I bombed. It was awful. But rather than fold, I realized I had to work much harder on material to get a large audience laughing. In 1998, I moved to Los Angeles with $10,000 in savings. I was soon down to less than $3,000 and took a job. From 1998 to 2005, I served cocktails at the Four Seasons while pursuing stand-up. Success didn’t happen overnight. The turning point came in 2013 when I started selling out multiple nights at comedy clubs in L.A. and New York. Next came selling out five shows at Radio City Music Hall and four at Madison Square Garden. My wife, Lana, and I live with our two kids in Beverly Hills. We moved here about three years ago. My mother lives here in L.A. and so does my sister. My father is still in Chicago. My parents divorced when I was 35. It’s impossible to get a big head in my family. My parents are always quick to set me straight. Even with my new movie, Mom asked, “Are you writing new material?” That’s code for, it can all disappear, so keep at it.

happy with squid at age seven, but my limit was watching my grandfather eat a fish head and suck the eyeballs out of its head. In school, I never took to academics the way I did to comedy. WESTON JEWELERS CELEBRATES WITH

Cody & Jenette McGinn

HOW DID YOU TWO MEET? We met in the 4th grade. Cody was Jenette’s first crush and it would prove to last. Time drew us apart to different schools, but we were reunited at an aviation conference. From there we rekindled our relationship and were married in February of 2023. We have known each other for over 20 years and have been together steadily for the last 3. WHEN DID YOU KNOW HE/SHE WAS THE ONE FOR YOU? Cody: Jenette has been a cornerstone in my life for as long as I have known her. I knew she was the one to spend my life and establish a family team with when we were both ready and excited to do so, together! Jenette: I had always hoped that Cody would turn out to be the one for me, and after we both grew and came back together as adults, I knew he was going to be my husband. HOW AND WHERE DID HE PROPOSE? Cody proposed at Jenette’s aunt’s birthday party. What was thought to be a family getaway and spring tubing vacation, turned out to be the perfect proposal opportunity! Jenette made all the arrangements and bookings thinking it was for a birthday, and it ended up being her biggest surprise yet!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT EACH OTHER? Cody: Her wit. Jenette can turn anything into a pun and get everyone rolling. Jenette: Cody doesn’t forget anyone! His level of attention to detail and care for others is unmatched. He truly makes anyone else feel like they are a part of what’s going on.

WESTON JEWELERS CONGRATULATES

Cristy & Rob Loycano

HOW DID YOU TWO MEET? Cristy: We met through Match.com. I reached out to Rob first, but it took him 6 days to respond back to me. I was beginning to think he was not interested. He mentioned he had a dog, and I used that as an ice breaker. Rob: We met at an Italian restaurant in Coral Gables. We spent all evening talking and getting to know each other. It felt as if I had known her all my life.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TOGETHER? Cristy: We have been together more than 2 years. Rob proposed after being together only 9 months. I was not looking to get married when we first met, but I also never expected to meet someone so perfect for me. Rob: Our relationship evolved quickly, and getting married was the logical next step. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT EACH OTHER? Cristy: From the first moment I met Rob I loved his confidence (even when he is wrong!). Rob: I love that we can talk about anything. Literally anything. Cristy always makes me laugh.

HOW AND WHERE DID HE PROPOSE? Rob: I booked us at a hotel in Miami Beach, and as we stood on the balcony I went through my memorized speech. Cristy did not expect it to happen, and I don’t think she believed me until I gave her the engagement ring. Cristy: I didn’t know it was happening. I felt like I missed it, so I made him do it again. Such a magical moment, and the ring was spectacular!

WHEN AND WHERE DID YOU GET MARRIED?

WHERE DID YOU HONEYMOON? Rob: We chose to go to St. Lucia and stay at Sugar Beach. It was paradise! Looking forward to going back there for an anniversary.

Rob: We got married last November at the Aviara in Carlsbad, California. It was a small, intimate ceremony and reception, with only our children, siblings, and a couple of close friends that are like family to us in attendance. Cristy is from Puerto Rico and grew up speaking Spanish. So, when she wanted us to write our own vows, I decided to surprise her by saying my vows in Spanish. It made her and all of her family cry. FIRST DANCE SONG? Cristy: “At Last” by Cyndi Lauper. Her version is so touching and symbolized how we have finally found each other so late in our lives.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE WESTON JEWELERS FOR YOUR RINGS?

Rob: When I decided to search for an engagement ring, I wanted something very special for Cristy. Ray at Weston Jewelers was great and helped me pick out a large oval diamond that was flawless. Both Cristy’s engagement ring and wedding band were custom made at Weston Jewelers.

Sarah & Kyle Putnam

HOW DID YOU TWO MEET?

WHEN AND WHERE WAS YOUR WEDDING? We were married on February 18 of this year in Baha Mar, Nassau, Bahamas. WHERE DID YOU HONEYMOON? South Africa, Kenya, and Tanzania.

We met in college at a bar on campus on Kyle’s birthday. My friend introduced me to him because he was her math tutor and we happened to be in the same place. We have been together for six years. WHEN DID YOU KNOW HE/SHE WAS THE ONE FOR YOU? We don’t think there is a specific moment you know someone is the one for you, but more that every day we continue to support one another and make each other happy. There’s not really more we could ask for.

WHAT’S YOUR LOVE LANGUAGE? Non-stop communication.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT EACH OTHER? Sarah: My favorite thing about Kyle is his unwavering support of myself and our little animal family. We have two cats, Diego and Franklin, and two dogs, Tuna and Sox. Also, the sense of love, comfort, and safety he makes me feel. We can talk, laugh, and dance all day long. Kyle: My favorite thing about Sarah is how much she inspires me by the way she cares for other people and how much she makes me laugh. HOW AND WHERE DID HE PROPOSE? Da Tang Zhen Wei — a hot pot restaurant in Miami. We used to go to a similar restaurant nearly every week in Philadelphia, where we lived after college. When we moved to Miami, we realized there was another hot pot place within walking distance from us, so it became our new regular spot. After the proposal, Kyle set up a surprise gathering with our families to celebrate.

FIRST DANCE SONG? “Just the Two of Us” by Bill Withers and Grover Washington, Jr.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE WESTON JEWELERS FOR YOUR RINGS? The Weston Jewelers family is extremely close to us and has been there for us for every difficult, fun, and loving memory throughout our lives. We always joke that Weston Jewelers sponsored our wedding, between our gifts to each other, our parents, and accessories for the weekend.

REVISITING THE PREMIER DUOGRAPH AND AVI

M ost Swiss luxury watches are inspired by vintage pieces that hail from the days when watchmakers in the Swiss Jura mountains invented everything that still counts as the foundation of mechanical watchmaking. Most top brands have catalogs rooted in this heritage. A great example of a brand whose modern timepieces are inspired by the past is Breitling, and the Premier Duograph is one

of its most important new releases. First introduced in 1943, the Premier was one of the first chronograph watches made for the public rather than for pilots and military professionals. The Premier Duograph was one of the earliest rattrapante chronographs designed for the wrist. Breitling decided to relaunch the Duograph because it is the most complex variation of the chronograph. The new Duograph is a modern interpretation of the original, with technical updates, including an in-house movement, the Breitling B15. The Premier B01 Chronograph is another modernized heritage piece from the brand. In 1943, Breitling decided to create a chronograph that was not only a tool watch but also a style statement. The result was the Premier, and it was a hit. Reintroduced by Breitling in 2021, the Premier Heritage chronograph collection revived the elegant, wrist-friendly model. This year, Breitling added six new references to the Premier B01 Chronograph 42 collection, all newly powered by the self-winding Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01. They include new dial shades in salmon, blue, green, black, and cream, and a choice of alligator leather straps or seven-row metal bracelets. Breitling preserved distinctive vintage- Premier design details, including the smooth fixed bezel, twin-register dial, streamlined rectangular pushers, and applied Arabic numerals.

No mention of Breitling’s heritage is complete without a word about the AVI Co-Pilot. In 1953, Breitling introduced an aviator’s watch that became the model for other aviator watches ever since. It was called the Ref. 765 AVI, and later the Co-Pilot, because it was considered the perfect tool for aviators with its rotating 12-hour bezel to record flight times. The AVI Co-Pilot was all about legibility, with a large dial, outsized Arabic numerals, and a minutes counter that could be read at a glance. This year, Breitling introduced three new Classic AVIs inspired by the original 1953 issue, and one inspired by a 1964 model. The color schemes of the four watches are designed to honor four of history’s greatest aircraft: the North American Aviation P-51 Mustang, the Vought F4U Corsair, the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk, and the de Havilland Mosquito. The introduction of the Breitling Caliber 23 chronograph movement further trims the profile and makes the Classic AVI attractive from a value perspective, as well.

HUBLOT

SQUARE BANG UNICO

Hublot currently masters three shapes: a round watch, a barrel- shaped watch, and the MPs — those Master Pieces that have broken free from all conventions. Now, a fourth shape has been created: the square. Its geometry bewitched Hublot because of the challenges it sets. First, the movement. Since every calibre has the wheel as its basic component, it therefore needs a round movement. If you are to place a round movement harmoniously in a square case, this requires a very specific style. This is why most watchmakers hide their movement, to give the illusion of using a shaped movement or because they have failed to find a consistent aesthetic style. Hublot decided to take a radically different direction: the watchmaker hides nothing of its own in-house Unico movement, the pride of the Nyon watchmakers and the beating heart of most of its designs for over 10 years. The second challenge was the modular construction of the case, designed in line with Hublot’s DNA, with a central housing dressed with an upper and lower plate to enable myriad of combinations and transformations. But this time, it is square in shape and, therefore, much more difficult to make water resistant — Hublot pulls off the challenge with a guaranteed water resistance to 100 meters. First of all, there is the sandwich construction of its dial, which gives it different levels of depth and a highly architectural feel. As with the Big Bang’s, the Square Bang Unico’s dial makes extensive use of sapphire to give a clear view of the Unico movement and also reuses the same hands. Next, we find the six (functional) screws on the bezel, placed at exactly the same places as on the Big Bang. On either side of the Square Bang, you find the ears from the Big Bang’s case, giving balance to the design while protecting the case. For the strap, in addition to the much appreciated One Click system of the Big Bang and its textured rubber,

the two screws are fixed in the middle as an attachment. Finally, the Square Bang uses the same materials as its predecessor, including titanium, ceramic, and King Gold, not to mention the famous All Black finish. Lastly, a new strap decorated with chocolate squares further emphasises the Square Bang’s identity. Thanks to its interchangeable (One Click) system, you can change the look of your watch in one click with an impressive range of rubber, alligator, and soon, soft- touch leather straps. Five 42 mm models are already available. The first three are in solid titanium, black ceramic, or King Gold. The last two blend titanium or King Gold with a black ceramic bezel. Each model comes with a black rubber strap and a folding clasp in the same material as the case. These original designs beat to the rhythm of the HUB1280 Unico Manufacture movement, a 354-component automatic chronograph, set at 4 Hz (28,800 vib/h). As is customary at Hublot, the finishing is uncompromising and has a very modern feel: polished and sandblasted screws, over-moulded rubber crown, push-pieces decorated with rubber chocolate squares, polished satin bottom, and rhodium-plated or 5N gold-plated hands, depending on the model. The crown comes in over-moulded rubber. The textured pattern of the strap was created especially for the Square Bang. It includes four rows (like the four sides of the case) of raised squares (like the bezel on the case).

ALL BLACK: THE COLLECTOR EDITION LIMITED TO 250 COPIES

If you had to choose just one, it would be this one: the Square Bang Unico All Black. Like all the All Blacks, only 250 pieces will be made — in fact, it will be the only limited edition of the Square Bang Unico collection.

TIME THE MANY COLORS OF

LUXURY WATCHMAKERS HAVE DISCOVERED THE POWER OF COLOR!

Bold colored straps and dials were once the trademark of quartz fashion watches, but now luxury watch brands have discovered the color wheel, and they are taking it to the next level. It’s no longer just about pink straps and purple tinted dials — although there is plenty of that — but infusing components of the watch with permanent color. That means new case materials, anodized or illuminated bridges and other components of the movement, colored dial plates that have been treated with vibrant enamel and miniature painting, and, of course, plenty of dazzling gem setting, including various applications of rainbow sapphires. The result is a blast of intense, joyful, edgy color that is beyond refreshing. The combination of hand-craftsmanship, mechanical movements, precious metals, colorful gemstones and high- watchmaking finishes such as grand feu, champlevé, or plique-à-jour enamel are a winning formula. Not only do they add up to unrivalled beauty but they also add value. That makes luxury watches more collectible and sought- after by aficionados than ever before. Among the new introductions for ladies, pink is hot right now — to match your pink diamonds! — and purple is emerging in unlikely places, not just on ladies’ watches but on some daring men’s pieces. The hottest colors for men include blue, green, and salmon. Salmon is especially interesting from a collectible point of view. The color is often used on special editions, with high complications or platinum cases — watches that are very limited and highly coveted. Salmon dials are also a craze in the vintage sector — the color was popular in the 1940s, and pieces made by luxury brands from that period are hot. Here are a few examples of how color is heating up the luxury watch market right now.

ROLEX OYSTER PERPETUAL CELEBRATION Rolex has pulled out all the creative stops in its 2023 collection, including this joyful take on the traditional Oyster Perpetual. The dial is lacquered with 51 bubbles in bright colors: turquoise blue, candy pink, yellow, coral, red, and green. Each color is applied and fired separately, followed by the application of black lacquer borders on each bubble. Sizes begin small, at 31 mm, and there are also 36 mm and 41 mm sizes. All cases are steel, and movements are automatic.

BELL & ROSS BR 03-92 DIVER BLUE This blue beauty is designed for maximum readability under water, with hands and indexes generously coated with Super-LumiNova in contrast to the blue background. It lights up like a beacon, even at depths of 100 meters. The 42 mm steel case is generously sized, which also enhances readability, and it comes with an additional black synthetic canvas strap.

TUDOR ROYAL Among the 13 dial options in the Tudor Royal collection is this new salmon tone, one of the shiniest variations of the trend, with a sunray pattern radiating out from the center. The Royal is a crowd-pleasing gender-neutral option, with 28, 34, and 38 mm case sizes to choose from. The applied numerals and COSC-rated movement give it a luxury watch vibe.

MONTBLANC 1858 ICED SEA AUTOMATIC DATE The cool green and white pattern on the dial of this classic sports watch is designed to create the impression of looking into the depths of a glacier. It was inspired by the Mer de Glace (Sea of Ice), the main glacier of the Mont Blanc, the mountain the brand is named after. It is built for extreme sports, with 300-meter water resistance and a unidirectional bicolor ceramic bezel.
