FROM OUR FAMILY TO YOURS

CELEBRATE YOUR MOMENTS With joy comes celebration — we are honored to share in your happiness

T here is so much to feel joyful about this year — holiday sights and sounds, friends and family, and gathering together are feeling normal again. Traditions large and small, which were once taken for granted, we now have a deeper appreciation for. As you browse through our premier issue of Rummele’s Jewelers Magazine , you’ll notice that our jewelry collections are also fresh and new — from the latest trends, to classic diamonds and distinctive timepieces. Bright colored gemstones and watches with bold colored dials are highly sought after as well as the newest fashions from all of our designers.

2022 has been very good to us as we moved into a new location in Fish Creek, at 9405 WI-42, formally the Nicolet Bank building at the bottom of the Fish Creek Hill. This seasonal location will be open from May through October, unlike our Green Bay store which is open year round. With that being said, we look forward to helping you select the perfect gift this holiday season. I’m also excited that my daughter, Chloe, is taking an active and growing role in the company, as our third generation. Just as I worked alongside my father, Chloe will work together with me and everyone at Rummele’s to continue the legacy we

have been building upon since 1950. Your support of our local family business enables us to bring the best of the best, from around the globe, home to you, to wear and enjoy for a lifetime. We love being a part of your special celebrations and invite you in to see all that is new for you to shop from. Best wishes to you for a happy and healthy holiday season!

Cheers,

Tracy

ROLEX DEBUTS 2022

R olex just keeps getting better and better. This year’s introductions include a new GMT-MASTER II with its crown in a novel position, a yellow gold YACHT-MASTER 42 (yellow gold watches are hot!), a redesigned OYSTER PERPETUAL AIR-KING , and a groovy floral DATEJUST 31 — four new models to lust after, destined to be future collector’s pieces.

The great novelty of the new GMT-MASTER II is the position of the crown and the cyclops date window on the left, with the crown facing toward the hand. Rolex lefty models are a rarity (as they are from most brands), and this one is exceptional. The green and black color combination is exclusive to this line, and it’s worth noting that two-tone Cerachrom itself is rare. Rolex introduced its proprietary ceramic formula in 2013, and it is only used on certain sports models. The watch has the model’s signature Cyclops lens magnified date window and the option of either a Jubilee or Oyster bracelet.

10 RUMMELE’S JEWELERS MAGAZINE

The OYSTER PERPETUAL AIR-KING , Rolex’s tribute to explorers of the skies, has been updated this year. It’s still the same 40 mm size, with the satin brushed Oyster bracelet and EasyLink Oyster clasp, and it still has the beloved black dial with signature green lettering and seconds hand. The case, however, has been redesigned. Now it has straight sides — like the majority of the brand’s professional category watches — as well as a crown guard. The applied numerals are now filled with Chromalight, Rolex’s proprietary luminescent material, which makes the watch more legible. The hands and triangular hour marker at 12 o’clock, as well as the 3, 6, and 9 numerals, now have a longer-lasting intense glow, making them more visible in the dark. Another big difference is that now there is a 0 before the 5 on the minutes scale, so each five-minute interval is marked by two digits. The Air-King was originally launched in 1958.

The YACHT-MASTER 42 is special for many reasons, but there is something extra magical about the combination of black dial and yellow gold case found on the new model. It adds an infusion of classic elegance to this otherwise sporty line. The model is easily recognizable for its bidirectional rotatable 60-minute graduated bezel made entirely from precious metal or fitted with a Cerachrom insert in high-technology ceramic. The hour markers and hands are optimized with Chromalight, which makes them visible in the dark, and even in daylight, they have a brighter white hue. It contains the Rolex caliber 3235, and like all Rolex watches, it carries the Superlative Chronometer certification, which ensures excellent performance on the wrist. The Yacht- Master 42 is also available in white gold.

The dial of the new ROLEX DATEJUST 31 is decorated with a floral motif in a choice of azzuro blue (with a fluted bezel), olive green, or silver (with diamond bezels). Lovers of detail will note the combination of matte, sunray and grained finishes on each flower, a subtle way of differentiating each one. Also, the center of each flower is set with a diamond. These dials are decorative enough to make them feminine and unique, yet not flashy or overly girly. As usual, Rolex gets the balance just right.

WARDROBE STAPLES

BY CAROL BESLER

CURATED CLASSICS

Rahaminov diamond bar necklace.

YOUR JEWELRY WARDROBE ISN’T COMPLETE UNTIL YOU TAKE CARE OF THE BASICS T he showcases of any great jewelry boutique are bursting with sparkling statement pieces that tantalize us with their beauty and drama. Your jewelry collection isn’t complete, however, until you stock up on the basics, the pieces that carry us gently through our everyday lives with grace and elegance and remind us of the importance of classic design. Since there are thousands of pieces to choose from at that level — and only so much showcase space — it’s important to rely on a jeweler who has an eye for choosing the best all-around basics of the moment, the classics-with-a-twist that will carry you safely through any fashion trend. These interpretations of the foundational pieces of any jewelry wardrobe are the season’s must-haves. DIAMOND NECKLACES There are few things more classic than a diamond solitaire necklace, perfect in its simplicity. This year, add a modern twist by making the diamond pear-shaped or trilliant-shaped, rather than a classic round brilliant. Or use more than one, for a diamonds-by-the-yard look. Either will work on their own or blend well with your favorite layered look — because diamonds match virtually everything.

LINE BRACELETS The line bracelet has been a staple of every jewelry wardrobe for decades, ever since Chrissy Evert coined the term “tennis bracelet.” Stacked with cuffs or other bracelets it adds volume but not weight. Like stud earrings, it can be worn every day, everywhere, from the beach to black tie.

PEARLS The shift toward androgyny in fashion has now permeated the jewelry world, and nowhere is the trend more evident than in pearl jewelry. With Harry Styles and other celebrity men jumping on board, the power of a simple strand of pearls has become even more universal.

DIAMOND STUD EARRINGS Wear them to the gym, the office or to dinner — diamond stud earrings always look like they belong. They are not only a reliable classic, they are versatile: dress them up by using sapphire or pearls instead of diamonds, or replace the classic round brilliant diamond with a pear or square cut. For even more sparkle, surround each center stone with a halo.

ANNIVERSARY BANDS

The anniversary band is a token of your ongoing commitment to your life partner, but it’s more than that: it’s a classic, everyday jewelry staple that expresses your style as much as your love. Mix it up with colored gemstones or a combination of diamonds and colored stones. Add it to your stack for extra drama. MIX IT UP Some classics are less pervasive than others, trending in cycles, but universally recognized as classics. Signet rings, engraved gold designs, amulets, and birthstone jewelry fall into this category. They are always acceptable, highly personalized, and sometimes surprising. They remain staples of any great jewelry wardrobe.

pearls POPULAR, PRIZED, AND PRECIOUS

P earls have long been a symbol of elegance and refinement. In the past, fashion icons such as Coco Chanel, Audrey Hepburn and Jackie O were rarely photographed without their pearl necklaces. Today, pearls continue to fascinate, whether seen on Angelina Jolie, Katy Perry, Sarah Jessica Parker, the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, or Gigi Hadid and Dua Lipa. The most popular way of wearing pearls remains the traditional strand, long or short. Yet pearls also come in a range of colors, sizes, and shapes, and have become an integral part of original and varied designs, whether classical, edgy, or contemporary. One of the fastest rising trends is to combine pearls and gemstones, creating new looks and new ways to wear them. They are often a featured element in cocktail rings, forming the center of a beautiful flower or in a circle of colorful gems. Another popular trend

in pearl fashion jewelry is the use of baroque pearls. Their unusual and free-form shapes lend themselves to a wide array of designs in brooches, earrings, pendants, and bracelets. Designers also pair pearls with leather, rubber, and other non-traditional jewelry materials for today’s contemporary look. Clusters of pearls create volume and color in all types of jewelry. Even traditional strands can be dressed up or down, knotted, worn as a belt, or even combined with blackened metals for a vintage aesthetic. The possibilities are endless, depending only on the imagination of the designer.

Pearls can be natural, meaning they were formed in the oyster with no human intervention, or they can be cultured. Natural pearls are very rare and found mainly in the Gulf region of the Middle East. Understandably, they carry a hefty price tag. Cultured pearls run the gamut as far as price goes. At the least expensive end of the spectrum are freshwater pearls, ranging in color

from cream to pink, from gray to lavender, and even gold hues. They are cultivated mainly in ponds and small lakes in China. Freshwater varieties are also sometimes dyed various

The more expensive seawater pearls can be divided into three general categories: South Sea pearls from the oyster Pinctada maxima , from the warm waters off Australia, the Philippines, and Indonesia, ranging from white to spectacular gold; Tahitian pearls from Pinctada margaritifera oysters in French Polynesia, ranging from black to multi-color peacock; and Akoya pearls from the Pinctada fucata oyster, grown in the cool to temperate seas near Japan and China, with a brilliant luster in cream to pink to gold.

colors for use in inexpensive fashion jewelry.

Because pearls are organic, they require special care. They can be damaged if they come in contact with perfume, cosmetics, hairspray, or household cleaners. It is good practice, therefore, to put them on last and, take them off first, and then store them in a soft cloth pouch — never in plastic, because it can emit a chemical that damages the pearl’s surface. Pearls should also be worn often to let them absorb moisture from the skin, which prevents them from drying out. With a little care, these popular, prized, and precious gems can be enjoyed forever.

dubai A MODERN METROPOLIS WITH AN ARABIAN FLAIR

DUBAI OOZES OPULENCE AND LUXURY AND OWES ITS PRESENT EXISTENCE TO ITS OIL RESOURCES. ITS LEADERS, HOWEVER, REALIZED THAT IT WAS NOT A COMMODITY THAT WOULD LAST FOREVER, AND FOR MANY YEARS THEY HAVE USED THEIR WEALTH TO SECURE A MULTIPLICITY OF ACTIVITIES AND TRADING OPTIONS. ONE OF THESE IS TOURISM, FROM WHICH IT NOW DERIVES A HEALTHY INCOME THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.

CITYSCAPE From the moment you touch down in Dubai and leave the airport the urban landscape towers above on a grand scale. Every building seems to be in competition with the next as they strive to be bigger, better, and more alluring then the next. Every hotel oozes luxury, and it is difficult to find anywhere that does not excite and cocoon you. The city sits on a natural creek that divides it into two halves — Deidra to the north and Bur to the south. DUBAI CREEK Known as Al Khor in Arabic, the creek was the base of the local fishing and pearling industries in the early 20th century and was dredged in 1961 to allow larger cargo vessels to dock. The first bridge, Al Maktoum Bridge, opened two years later. The extension in 2016 of the Dubai canal linked it to the Gulf. One of the most interesting ways to cross the creek is via a small boat called an abra . Dozens ferry folk back and forth for a very small sum, and boatmen are also available to take you on a forty-five-minute journey to admire Dubai from the water. We took a much larger boat in the evening. It was one of many which were decked with lights to form a lighted boat parade. On the top deck we ate dinner while we enjoyed the views of the city by night. THE SOUKS These are to be found on both sides of the creek. They are traditional Arab markets full of atmosphere and, if you can haggle, a good bargain. They are ordered according to what they sell. The most famous is the gold souk, which is considered to be the largest gold bazaar in Arabia and one of the best places in the world to shop for fine jewelery, gold, silver, and gemstones. The spice souk is an aromatic paradise and the color and aroma are tantalizing The perfume souk is filled with familiar scents in the most ornate of bottles. It’s back then across the water for the textile souk with its range of hand-woven and machine-made fabrics in cashmere, silk, cotton, and wool.

BURJ AL ARAB Billowing like the sail of a dhow, the Burg al Arab has come to symbolize Dubai. It is in the Jumeriah area, which is flanked by idyllic sandy beaches. Designed by architect Tom Wright, it sits on an artificial island. It was completed in 1999 and its 202 rooms are amongst the most expensive in the world. Its hospitality, service, and sumptuous dining make it unique and are open to non-residents. Close to the Burg Arab a canal has been constructed, and in its picturesque setting restaurants spill out onto the walkway with giant parasols. It is a great place to chill out, and a boat ride on the bright blue water is a great way to spend some free time.

THE PALM Jutting into the calm turquoise waters of the Arabian Gulf is a man- made archipelago built in the shape of a palm tree. It can easily be reached via the city’s excellent monorail system. Its trunk is three miles long and its fan of fronds are lined with luxury villas and five-star hotels. At its farthest point is its crown jewel — the majestic Atlantis complex. Its footprint is the size of 64 Wembley football pitches. It stands like something from a Disney movie, and this pink-hued resort houses not only accommodation but a water park, an aquarium, fine dining, a private beach, and a shopping mall. I remember the ice cream parlor even provided a dimension of its own. Ice cream was thrown between two waiters and toppings juggled in a theatrical fashion as they were prepared for us.

BURJ KHALIFA Downtown Dubai is the city’s busy tourism hub, and here you will find the tallest skyscraper in the world — the Burj Khalifa with its observation deck on level 125. From this dizzy height, the view is exhilarating, although on some days its sheer height causes clouds to collect around it. In the evening

we gathered with others at its base to watch the exhilarating fountain display choreographed to music, its many jets shoot water as high as a 50-story building. Designed by creators of the Fountains of Bellagio in Vegas, Dubai fountain is an amazing experience.

DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT

SIMON G . LIFELONG PURSUIT OF BEAUTY

IN SIMON’S WORDS “My parents handed down the values of honest, hard work to all their children. We were taught that if you could build something with your hands, you’d never go hungry. When I first came to America, I had $200 in my pocket and a dream of going to college to be an engineer. But when I tried to sign up for classes in New York, they were thousands of dollars! Luckily, I had a relative working in the diamond district who invited me to work there and save up for school. I started setting diamonds and soon fell in love with the process, artistry, and details of jewelry making. Before long, what started as a hobby became a passion. I began making my own designs in my spare time and saving up for more jewelry-making materials instead of classes. “My, how things have changed since then. Now, Simon G. has many designers from all around the world, and our handcrafted work is sold in over 900 stores across North America. As proud as I am of what we’ve accomplished, I still get my biggest thrill from creating a new piece. Sitting down and sketching out an idea is as magical to me now as it was the very first time I did it, whether it’s a traditional wedding ring or a bracelet with multicolored gemstones.”

Simon Ghanimian came to the United States from Armenia with only $200 in his pocket. He saved up enough money to obtain materials to make jewelry and began selling his creations by going door-to-door. Later, he moved to Los Angeles to open his own business. Today Simon G. blends inspiration from jewelry history with modern and bold details to create a unique and exquisite range of jewelry designs.

FOCUS ON QUALITY Simon G. is committed to produce only the finest quality jewelry in order to do justice to their creative visions. As a concept is formed into reality, the jewelry piece is monitored at 10 separate quality-control stations. Metals are alloyed in- house to ensure enduring hardiness and perfectly matching color tones. Details are celebrated in extraordinarily delicate beadwork, filigree, and engraving that set their pieces apart. All pieces are polished, not only on the top surface, but also on the back, interior, and underneath the stones to create the most light-reflecting surfaces.

PATEK PHILIPPE

COMPLICATIONS

FIT FOR A LADY

P atek Philippe made its first ladies’ watch in 1839, the year it was founded. Since then, ladies’ collections have been an important part of the prestigious company’s very limited production. One thing they all have in common: they are technically outstanding, a quality that makes Patek Philippe the world’s most coveted watch brand. One of its earliest complications for women was a minute repeater, the most technically challenging movement for a watchmaker. Another complication, the annual calendar, has been part of the ladies’ lineup for many years. In 2009, Patek Philippe introduced its first in-house chronograph movement in a ladies’ wristwatch (Ref. 7071). In 2011, it followed up with two complications for women: the first series minute repeater for ladies, Ref. 7000, and the first-ever ladies’ split seconds chronograph, Ref. 7059. This year, Patek Philippe introduced two new complications to the ladies’ current collection, the Ref. 7121/200G Ladies’ Moonphase and the Ref. 7130R World Time.

30 RUMMELE’S JEWELERS MAGAZINE

THE HUMAN TOUCH: THE IRREPLACEABLE SKILL OF HAND-FINISHING. THE JEWEL IN THE CROWN OF A PATEK PHILIPPE WATCH IS THE FACT THAT, FROM ITS CASE AND DIAL TO ITS BEATING HEART, IT HAS BEEN FINISHED BY HAND BY A DEDICATED, TRAINED SPECIALIST, WITH SKILLS PASSED DOWN THROUGH GENERATIONS.

The Ref. 7121/200G Ladies’ Moonphase was first introduced in 2013 in yellow gold. This year, it debuts a new model in white gold, with an elegant blue dial on which the displays stand out like stars in the night sky. The glitter continues on the bezel, where a double row of 132 brilliant- cut diamonds is set in the dentelle technique. The way they are arranged allows more light to pass through the diamond, increasing its brilliance. The watch contains Patek Philippe’s smallest complicated movement, and the case size is therefore an elegant 33 mm in diameter.

The new Ref. 7130R is a ladies’ model of Patek Philippe’s classic World Time series. It is interpreted in 18k rose gold, with an olive green dial that is guillochéd by hand in a basket weave motif. This one contains Patek’s famously slim caliber 240 HU in a 36 mm case. The 24-city disk rings a 24-hour disk that is divided into day/night zones distinguished by their color and by the sun/moon symbols. The bezel is set with 62 diamonds totaling 0.82 ct, and the prong buckle is set with another 27 diamonds totaling 0.21 ct.

FOR LADIES The moonphase has always been considered a romantic complication because of the beauty and poetry of the complication. It is one of the most graphic complications and is, therefore, often depicted on ladies’ watches. Patek Philippe’s patented annual calendar was launched in 1996 and has been an incredible success story. Indicating the day of the week, the date and the month, and requiring correction only once a year, this ingenious mechanism has emerged as one of Patek Philippe’s flagship models. The 38 mm case of the Patek Philippe 4947R annual calendar is set with 141 diamonds, with 14 more on the crown.

— COMPLICATIONS — TRUE TIMEPIECE CONNOISSEURS ARE HAPPIEST WHEN THEY ARE WEARING A WATCH WITH A COMPLICATION — SOMETHING THAT GOES BEYOND HOURS, MINUTES, AND SECONDS, SOMETHING THAT CAN TRACK MOON PHASES, A SECOND TIME ZONE, LEAP YEARS, OR THE DAY OF THE WEEK. THESE ARE THE WATCHES THAT GREAT COLLECTIONS ARE MADE OF.

FOR MEN The Patek Philippe Calatrava Pilot Travel Time Ref. 5524

The movement is the Patek Philippe automatic caliber CH 324 S C FUS, with a Gyromax balance wheel and Spiromax balance spring for low- maintenance and greater efficiency.

HAPPILY EVER AFTER

BY LORI ROBERTS

it ’ s in the

details

I t takes hours and hours of design and craftsmanship to create a piece of jewelry, and with today’s “more is more” styling, each subtle detail plays an important role in the overall composition of each amazing ring.

AS YOU STROLL THROUGH OUR STORE AND GAZE AT THE HUGE SELECTION OF ENGAGEMENT RINGS, YOU MIGHT BE SURPRISED TO KNOW HOW MUCH TIME GOES INTO CREATING EVERY BEAUTIFUL RING.

PRONGS You’ve heard the term “gold standard,” and when it comes to prongs that hold significant diamonds and gemstones, the standard is, in fact, gold — karat gold is the most widely used precious metal. The alloyed mix of complimentary metals with pure gold gives karat gold magnificent strength and durability. Although gold does tend to wear down over time, a little maintenance can go a long way to maintaining its longevity. We recommend coming in four times a year to get your rings cleaned and the prongs checked. It’s a free service and the best way to guard against losing a stone from its setting, securing your ring for generations to come.

Signature Daussi Cushion diamond halo split shank setting by Henri Daussi.

FACETS Of the 4Cs, cut (and facet arrangement) is arguably the most important. A well-cut diamond maximizes the reflection of light, enabling the facets to act as tiny mirrors that bounce light back, creating a spectacular sparkle and shine! Facet arrangement varies by shape, but no matter which cut you choose, each facet has an important job to do. The most common diamond, the round brilliant, contains 58 different facets, with the crown (the top of the diamond) and the pavilion (the bottom of the diamond) having the most effect on the light show we witness from above.

PAVÉ Who doesn’t want more sparkle and shine for less? Pavé — French for paving — gives you all that sparkle and shine without spending the big bucks. In these settings, smaller diamonds accentuate the larger diamond by creating a field of sparkle. In many of these rings, the gold between each stone is barely visible, further enhancing the look of the entire piece.
