Lawrence & Katy Bock with Al Cook, Chief Executive Officer, De Beers Group
While other jewelers assume a more passive stance and simply wait to see which stones come across their desks, Lawrence takes control of the selection process and is known throughout the business as having a meticulous eye for buying and matching diamonds. In his early years, he spent six years traveling to Antwerp, Belgium, a global diamond hub since the 15th century, to buy diamonds at the source, ensuring only the finest pieces would be presented to Bachendorf’s discerning clientele. In 2011, Lawrence was inducted into National Jeweler’s Retailer Hall of Fame in the Multi-Store Independent category, recognizing his contributions and entrepreneurial leadership at Bachendorf’s in Dallas/Fort Worth. He was also named one of WATCHPRO USA’s Hot 100 Retail Power Players, a distinction celebrating key leaders in luxury retail who shape trends and uphold industry standards. Thanks to trusted relationships with foundations that are decades, and in some cases, centuries old, Lawrence’s stamp on the industry is set to remain strong. His commitment to developing future talent is also evident through the Bachendorf’s Scholarship for Overall Academic Achievement at Jesuit Dallas, which is awarded to a rising junior or senior who has demonstrated significant academic improvement.
In February, he was invited to De Beers’ global headquarters in London, where he consulted with some of the most respected mining siteholders and diamond supply partners, including meetings with De Beers CEO, Al Cook and the team leading the Sierra Leone mines reformation.
