Independent Watchmakers CRAFTING THEIR OWN PATH
In a world where most major watch brands are part of sprawling luxury conglomerates, a handful of independent companies continue to chart their own course. These brands retain full creative and operational control, often leading to bolder designs, technical innovation, and a more personal connection with their customers. Among today’s notable independents are NOMOS Glashütte, Bell & Ross, and Raymond Weil , each offering a distinct perspective on watchmaking.
NOMOS GLASHÜTTE Minimalism Meets Manufacturing Mastery Founded in 1990 shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall, NOMOS Glashütte has become one of Germany’s most respected independent brands. Operating from the historic town of Glashütte, the brand is known for its Bauhaus-inspired designs and fully in-house mechanical movements. Unlike many independent watch brands that rely on outsourced calibers, NOMOS designs, develops, and manufactures its movements entirely in-house, showcasing traditional Glashütte elements such as three-quarter plates with striping, tempered blue screws, swan neck regulators, and hand engraving. One of its latest calibers is the DUW 3202 automatic worldtime movement, which powers the new Club Sport Neomatik Worldtimer watch.
