The Benefits of a Digital Detox

How to Start Your Detox Mindfulness. Ask yourself why you’re using your phone. Are you bored? Afraid of missing out? Stressed with work? Examine your emotions to understand why you turn to your phone. Schedule a break. If you suspect you’re addicted, set an alarm for 15-30 minutes and put your phone down. Make the breaks longer over time. Substitute a habit. Instead of picking up your phone, fill the urge with something else.

Believe in yourself. Carefully curated lifestyles on social media lead you to compare yourself with others. It’s easy to forget the flawless model has a team of makeup artists just off camera. Don’t let that affect how you see yourself. Spending less time in that fantasy world can boost your self- esteem. Get healthier. Staying glued to your smartphone for several hours can lead to eye strain, dry eyes, blurry vision, teary eyes, and headaches. It can also rob you of sleep by delaying the release of melatonin. If possible, stop looking at your device an hour before bed, and even better, don’t take it to the bedroom with you.

Target the problem. Restrict or eliminate specific issues, like a social media app or game. You may decide on a total fast for a day or a week or focus on a specific detox, such as social media. Let friends and family know so that they can help and support you.

Feel content. Experiments have found that scheduling a break from digital devices can lower your stress levels. It can also help you focus on the present and pay more attention to things around you rather than giving in to FOMO (Fear of Missing Out). Be focused. Scrolling through your favorite social media sites or deep diving into Wikipedia can consume time otherwise devoted to your responsibilities. Set your phone aside to focus on things you want to get done while feeling less hectic.

NO MATTER HOW YOU TACKLE YOUR DETOX,

YOU’RE CERTAIN TO FEEL REJUVENATED, AND WHO KNOWS, MAYBE YOU’LL PICK UP A NEW HOBBY IN THE PROCESS!
