BY CAROL BESLER

yellow diamond DELIGHTS NATURAL COLORED DIAMONDS ARE RARE AND UNIQUE

N atural fancy intense yellow diamonds are rare: for every colored diamond found, including fancy blue and pinks, there are at least 10,000 colorless ones. Yellow color in diamonds becomes noticeable to most people around grade M (the color scale for diamonds runs from D colorless to Z). When the color is very intense, it is classified as a fancy colored diamond. For fancy colored diamonds, the deeper, purer, and more saturated colors are usually the rarest, most costly, and most desirable.

Yellow diamonds are particularly beautiful because of the natural brilliance of diamonds combined with the radiance of the color. Diamonds are the hardest of all gemstones and, therefore, reflect light with a brilliance that outshines all other gemstones. Colored diamonds have emerged as a favorite gemstone because of this unique glow. And because they are so rare, they make a unique style statement when set in jewelry.
