Diamonds are formed when carbon atoms are compressed for millions of years under tremendous heat and pressure deep within the earth. But when minute traces of other elements are blended with the carbon, the result is the most precious and rare of all: a fancy color diamond. Rare and precious are these true gifts from nature. While fancy yellow diamonds are more available, they are still far less common that white diamonds and can be mined and cut in larger sizes. Fancy pink and blue diamonds, however, are exceptionally rare and are seldom seen cut to more than a carat in size.
