modern time WATCHES THAT INCLUDE THE BEST OF BOTH OLD AND NEW WORLDS

The luxury watch industry is very traditional. Many of the brands’ current collections have been in existence for a long time, with new releases consisting of variations and updates of existing iconic models. For the past several years, the trend has been to faithfully reproduce the design elements of original models. Homage editions revive the dial configurations, colors, and marker shapes of fan-favorite models from the ’50s to the ’70s. Recently, however, tribute pieces have given way to the introduction of new editions that represent thoroughly modernized editions of old favorites. Color is a big part of this rejuvenation. Dials are red, green, blue, and edgy black or gray, instead of the vintage ivory and off-white dials that dominated vintage designs. Super-LumiNova, which didn’t even exist until the 1990s, is everywhere, in bolder applications and more color variations, sometimes lighting up full dials. Newmovements are another big part of the rejuvenation, with most brands now producing state- of-the-art, in-house movements to be introduced throughout their collections. Here are some examples of the latest modern additions to fan-favorite watch collections. THE ROLEX DAYTONA is one of the most sought-after watches in the world in both vintage and current forms. The new special-dial version of the Rolex Daytona adds a whole new look to the traditional model, with a solid meteorite dial that lends a unique, decorative flair. There are white, yellow, and Everose gold models. Other modern touches include the Cerachrom ceramic bezel and modern caliber 4131, an in-house automatic movement with a 72-hour power reserve. It is fitted with a blue Parachrom hairspring, manufactured by Rolex in a paramagnetic alloy that makes it up to 10 times more precise than a traditional hairspring in case of shocks.

TAG HEUER MONACO GULF The square-cased Monaco is TAG Heuer’s most recognizable watch and the one most closely associated with the world of auto racing. Named after the Monaco Grand Prix, it was worn by Steve McQueen in the 1971 movie “Le Mans.” Gulf Oil International has also long been involved in auto racing, and was the sponsor of McQueen in the film, in which he drove a Gulf-Porsche 917K. TAG Heuer and Gulf co-designed a special edition Monaco Gulf to commemorate this shared heritage, which bears the blue and orange stripes of Gulf’s racing colors. The Gulf logo, along with a vintage Heuer logo, appears on the dial. The crown appears on the left side of the case, where it is less intrusive for drivers gripping the steering wheel, is signature to the model.

ACCUTRON— 60TH ANNIVERSARY ACCUTRON SPACEVIEW The Accutron made watchmaking

history when it was introduced in 1960 for being the world’s first fully electronic watch. The Accutron logo became a symbol of timekeeping accuracy. The brand was relaunched last year with a new collection, the Spaceview 2020, with yet another groundbreaking advancement in timekeeping technology – the world’s first movement powered by electrostatic energy, providing accuracy to within +/- 5 seconds a month. The launch includes this Limited Edition 18k yellow gold Spaceview 2020, which recreates the original

open dial design and signature green accents of the original. It is limited to 60 pieces.

ORIS AQUIS DATE UPCYCLE This special version of the Oris Aquis has a colorful dial made of recycled PET plastic. It makes a statement not only from a design point of view, but from an environmental one, bringing a topical, modern sensibility to a classic watch. Using recycled plastic is part of Oris’s “Change for the Better” program, part of which has involved raising funds and awareness for some of the world’s most pioneering ocean conservation agencies. The watch is available in either 41.5 mm or 36.5 mm sizes, and each watch will be slightly unique because the recycled plastic creates random patterns. It comes in a grey presentation box made from sustainable and recyclable paper.

YOUR HOW TO MAKE EVERY LOOK YOUR OWN MIX match

Layering and stacking jewelry to curate your individual style is one of the strongest trends to ever happen in fine jewelry. It’s bigger than the tennis bracelet, the Y-necklace, or the statement pendant, because it’s all of these together and more! Why wear just one piece of beautiful jewelry when you can wear several? And why let one designer dictate your style when you can combine several and create your own? Layering and stacking gives you the opportunity to get creative and let your own personal flair shine through. Mixing and matching can be a way to dress up or down by using several pieces together to create either a bold or casual look, with just a few subtle adjustments. To start a layer, choose a center piece that anchors everything and then build the look around it. It could be a spectacular necklace, a bold ring, a watch, or a cuff bracelet. Everything else flows from there, and that’s where the fun begins. You can add texture, color, and dimension, layering in pieces of varying lengths and thicknesses. Build the layers in levels, starting with a short chain like a choker and then lengthening them downwards to create a cascading look, ending with a pendant or lariat. It usually starts with 14 inches and goes down to 33 inches. Generally choose an odd number of necklaces, like three or five, but sometimes just two necklaces can work well.

PINK, BLUE, &YELLOW, Oh my!

Diamonds are formed when carbon atoms are compressed for millions of years under tremendous heat and pressure deep within the earth. But when minute traces of other elements are blended with the carbon, the result is the most precious and rare of all: a fancy color diamond. Rare and precious are these true gifts from nature. While fancy yellow diamonds are more available, they are still far less common that white diamonds and can be mined and cut in larger sizes. Fancy pink and blue diamonds, however, are exceptionally rare and are seldom seen cut to more than a carat in size. IDC has these rare and precious fancy colored diamonds in stock and can also source the fancy colored diamond of your dreams for you.

expert advice

Q: I have both white gold and yellow gold jewelry, but I’m never sure if I should wear them together, does it look okay to mix gold colors? A: Absolutely. Adding rose gold to white and yellow is a great look, too, this gives you a trio of colors to mix and match.White gold and platinum are cool colors, while yellow and rose gold add warmth and depth to your jewelry combinations. Q: I love to add new things to my jewelry box each year, but I also have my old favorites. How can I wear and enjoy both together? A:We love when you come into the store wearing your favorites so we can help you select new styles that complement what you already own and love. For instance, if you have a gold polished bangle bracelet, you might consider adding a white gold bangle of a different width to wear with it. Or, add a classic diamond tennis bracelet to your watch for an instant update — and sparkle — on that wrist. Q: Everyone is wearing multiple necklaces, but what combinations look best together? I’m not sure where to start? A: Start by selecting your favorite pendant necklace that hangs about 16-18” long to hang in a V-shape. Next, choose a long necklace that will hang lower and rounded. If you want to add a third layer, short choker necklaces look great! Layering necklaces can be as easy and 1,2,3. Come in and we’ll help you assemble a look you love! Q: I feel like I wear the same earrings every day, what’s new? A: Two earrings that should be in everyone’s jewelry box are diamond studs and hoops. They are good go-to styles that complement everything! To up your earring look, try long single-strand diamond earrings, or add a diamond bezel-set charm to your hoops for extra sparkle and movement. We have SO MANY earrings to choose from new in stock for the holiday season in every price range. Come pick out a pair or two that speak to your sense of style.

ÜBER-CHIC MAXIMALISM

SHORT AND SWEET Not just regulated to your reception, show- er or rehearsal dinner any longer, it’s a fash- ion trend that pervades all aspects of your wardrobe for this next year: show those legs...not to mention those ridiculously beautiful and exceptional shoes! The mini- wedding-dress feels especially festive. EXAGGERATED RUFFLES A huge maximalist trend. Frilly and un- apologetically bubbly, cascading ruffles are modern, whimsical, and fashion forward. It’s all in the details. It’s a grand gesture that tells the world you both imagine and dream that the best is yet to come.

STATEMENT SLEEVES Looking to dial up some drama? Romantic balloon or bishop sleeves provide a fairytale moment — definitely a dominating trend this season. From billowy to fluttery and embel- lished, the emphasis is on wedding dresses with sleeves in 2022. You can thank this continuing and evolving trend to Kate Middleton’s royally Flower details and wedding dresses are classic; colorful details like 3-D rosettes and embroidery are not. However, if a full-on colored dress feels like a fashion risk (it’s not, it is modern and on point), pastel floral touches are a more subtle way to push the envelope on your big day. Given the trend to express yourself, here’s your opportunity to celebrate with vibrance. big day a decade ago. FLORAL BOUQUET

FEATHER IS YOUR FRIEND Let’s be frank, feathers are an over-the-top embellishment. But no matter how you in- terpret this wedding dress trend, plumage packs a glamorous punch. SHINING SHOULDERS Off-the-shoulder sleeves scream romance. The versatile neckline flatters the decollete and can be adapted for any silhouette. The squarer the shoulder, the more impactful. PANTSUIT PUNCH We get it. It’s reminiscient of Marlene Dietrich in 1933, and it’s comfortable, figure flattering, and modern. It allows you to go against the grain and announces “I am woman, hear me roar.” Cropped tops and oversized pants allow the wedding pantsuit and jumpsuit to be funky and inspirational.

I D C M A G A Z I N E [ 37

AS IS USUALLY THE CASE, 2022 IS USHERING IN A BEVY OF NEW LOOKS . SOME ARE NEW TAKES ON CLASSIC SILHOUETTES, OTHERS ARE A MIX FROM EXCITING AND UNIQUE TO REVISITED RETRO. OVERSIZED BOWS, BARE BACKS, AND SHOULDERS, RIBBONS, RUFFLES, FLOWERS, COLOR, FEATHERS, STATEMENT SLEEVES, HIGH SLITS, AND LONG OR MINI AND SHORT, OFFER LADIES A TRULY STYLISH WEDDING DAY EXPERIENCE. ESCAPISM IS THE THEME FOR 2022, COMBINED WITH VERSATILITY AND LAYERING. ELABORATE DESIGNS COUNTER THE MINIMIALISM OF THE RECENT PAST. IT IS TIME. IT IS NEEDED. FULFILL THE DREAMS OF YOUR ULTIMATE WEDDING DAY AND APPROACH IT WITH A BOLD STRIDE AND NEW VIGOR!

SQUARE NECKLINES This more geometric neckline flatters the collarbones and shoulders and is a true throwback. Popular in the Renaissance and Regency eras as well as the 1990s, square necklines have since made a major come- back. It works with any style. Go classic with heavy satin, romantic with floral lace, or boho with crepe. HIGH SLITS ZZ Top will be heard at lots of receptions in 2022. “She’s got legs, she knows how to use them!” High slits bring massive sex appeal allowing your sultry side to show some skin as you take those long beautiful strides down the aisle or dance the night away. It’s a peek-a-boo moment for those with glorious gams. This slinky ’90s silhouette is experiencing a bridal fashion revival.

SENSIBLE TRANSITIONS Weddings are expensive. You want versatility. Transitional pieces allow you two looks and are simply economically beneficial. Capes, capelets, toppers and coats have appear in designer collections around the globe. BARE BACKS Bare backs have been all the rage for several seasons, and for good reason. As viewed from behind, an unexpected flash of skin is sensual, modern, and somewhat modest. MAXI BOWS Maximalism has its finest hour in the form of larger-than-life bows. It’s regal. It’s girly. It’s elegant. They can pop up adorning backs, shoulders, and waist lines (front, side, or back).

HIGH-LOW The mini wedding dress was the 2021 craze. It made sense, given the smaller crowds and venues. The high-low wedding dress is a mix of modern and classic — a truly fashionable statement. Again, the legs take center stage. The high-low wedding dress offers an elegant compromise between a formal ballgown and flirty mini. TEA-LENGTH TIME Similar to the above, you’ll see a common and stylish carryover from 2021 and still a favorite of many designer collections: the tea-length dress. It is not maximalism as a stand alone silhouette, but the details, adornments, and embellishments of the new season will push the dainty to the dreamgirl.

is power

OF THINGS TO COME shape

A diamond ring is beautiful no matter how you look at it, but not every diamond ring is the same. Changing the cut and shape of a diamond can make it beautiful in a whole new way. The 57-facet round-brilliant cut is the most popular form of diamond for rings because it produces the most pure white light return. It is defined according to specific mathematically calculated angles that are designed to make it reflect light from the inner facets. But it’s not the only choice, and it’s definitely not the only beautiful choice. There are many cuts and shapes to choose from, all of which have their own unique charms. Fancy shapes such as pear, marquise (a long rectangle with pointed tips), emerald (a rectangular step cut with tapered corners), and ovals are popular alternatives to the round-brilliant. Oval-shaped center stones and solitaires have become particularly popular this year. Oval diamonds are not only a unique alternative to round, but visually they seem larger than round or square cut diamonds of the same size. Not only that, but the elongated style makes the fingers look longer. In fact, all long shaped stones like oval, pear, emerald, or marquise diamonds add the illusion of length to shorter fingers, as do tapered side stones, such as baguettes (a rectangular cut without beveled corners). The princess cut is another favorite choice for center stones. The face-up shape of the princess cut is square or rectangular, and the profile or side-view shape is similar to that of an inverted pyramid with four beveled sides. The cut is executed with a series

of unique, chevron-shaped facets in the pavilion, which combine to give a unique cross-shaped reflection when the stone is viewed directly through the table. The cushion cut — so named for its softly rounded corners that resemble a pillow — is another favorite, one that feels a little bit vintage. The cut dates back 200 years and was once considered the favorite of royals. Today’s versions use modern cutting technology to imbue the cushion with impressive sparkle. There are also specialty cuts unique to certain manufacturers. One is the Asscher cut, originally created in the early 1900s by the Asscher Brothers of Holland’s Asscher Diamond Company (now the Royal Asscher Diamond Company). For decades,Asscher cuts were primarily found in vintage jewelry stores, but the shape surged in popularity again during the early 2000s. Asscher cuts look similar to emerald cuts, with the most obvious difference being that they are square instead of rectangular. This cut features large stepped facets and a tall crown that produces a very high brilliance.Although the Asscher cut is considered a square shape, it is actually somewhat octagonal, since all four corners are cropped. However, these cropped corners are not noticeable once the diamond is mounted into a four-prong setting. Another special cut is the Radiant, which is a square cut with a complete brilliant- cut facet pattern applied to both the crown and pavilion, creating a vibrant and lively square (or rectangular) diamond, with a total of 70 facets.

SETTINGS

Prong setting is the most common setting in jewelry, and it is often used in solitaire diamond rings because it uses the least amount of metal to hold the stone, thus showing off the diamond to its best advantage. This setting is typically a number of gold posts (usually four or six), called prongs, arranged in a shape and size to hold the stone, and fixed at the base. After the stone is inserted between the prongs, a tool is used to bend the prongs gently over the crown of the stone. When a center stone is surrounded by a halo of smaller stones, that is given the self-explanitory name of a halo setting. It is the biggest thing to hit engagement ring design since the prong setting and now serves as a modern classic. The halo adds visual interest to a single stone, while making it look much bigger. Designers have recently adopted the halo into square and hexagonal frames, featuring colored gemstones and diamonds, as well as baguettes.

Bezel setting is also popular. This is when the metal is rounded or bent into the shape and size of the stone. The diamond is then inserted into the bezel, and the metal is rubbed over the stone, holding it in place. This method works well for either cabochon or faceted stones. Rings are sometimes surrounded by smaller diamonds on the shank that are pavé set — closely set together with minimum visibility of the tiny metal beads or prongs that hold them in place. The effect is that of a surface “paved” with diamonds. Some women prefer a so-called east-west setting, when an elongated stone such as an oval, radiant cut, or marquise is set sideways across the finger, as opposed to the traditional north- south direction up and down the finger. This modern setting has reignited the popularity of cuts like pear and marquise.

SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY

When you visit the south you think of south- ern charm and southern hospitality. But the “Old South” has changed dramatically over the years and become more homoge- nized with the rest of the country. Atlan- ta is now a bustling metropolis much like many east coast cities. The same can be said for Nashville, TN or Raleigh, NC or Colum- bia, SC. However there are pockets where time seems to have stood still; where a glass of sweet tea served with a warm smile under

massive Spanish moss-covered oak trees is a common sight rather than the exception. When I first traveled to Ireland, I marveled at how the people, language, and culture well-mirrored the caricatures created by TV shows and cartoons I had watched as a kid. It is indeed true that they sing and invite you into their pubs for a raucous good time... often asking you to pull up a chair at their table. The Irish love Americans and they love to celebrate life on a daily basis. The names of

towns and of the people can be pulled right out of a cartoon. It is a magical place. I feel the same about our historic Savannah, Georgia. The beauty of this small city will seduce you with its colonial-style arichitecture and rich history. It’s a place where you are made to feel at home and at peace. It’s a relaxed culture that has embraced its past and preserved what is comforting about the Old South. The pace is slow. The people are welcoming and con- siderate of others. They love life in Savannah!

THE DARK SIDE Savannah also has an edge. It is considered one of the most haunted cities in America. There are several ghost tours available that will confirm the dark side of this very pic- turesque city. Whether during the day, or a more appropriate nighttime walking tour, some must-see stops include the Sorrel Weed House (a period mansion with its own private ghost tours), the old Savannah Theater (estab- lished in 1818) and Chippewa Square, where the famous bench scene from “Forrest Gump” was filmed. A short tour through the beautiful Bonaventure Cemetery, which was depicted in John Berendt’s “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil,” certainly conveys the ancient years of decay and sadness of this place with its overgrown brush and dilapidated tomb- stones surrounded by the ever-present oaks and hanging moss. MUST-SEE The quintessential Savannah moment will be found at the Wormsloe Historic Site, a for- mer plantation (Georgia’s oldest) established in the 1730s by Noble Jones, one of the first settlers to arrive from England. After driving through the huge gated entrance the breath- taking enchantment of an avenue lined on ei- ther side by hundreds of trees — stately oaks covered in Spanish moss, creates a canopied thoroughfare over a mile long that will never

be forgotten. At the end of the avenue (which you can walk or drive) is a small museum and visitors center that tells the history of the site. CULINARY DELIGHTS While people come from all around the coun- try to experience the history of such a beauti- ful place, they also will discover that southern hospitality in the finest of dining establish- ments throughout the city. Savannah cuisine and spirits are world-famous and extremely diverse. Sink your teeth into extra-crispy fried chicken, authentic shrimp and grits, finger-lick- ing-good barbecue and so much more. Stand- out eateries include: The Grey, a restaurant housed in building that served as a Greyhound bus station from 1938 to 1964; The Atlantic, a repurposed space located in an old gas sta- tion; Cotton & Rye (located in a former bank), featuring a modern take on Southern cuisine; Dine in style in a beautifully restored 19th century mansion at La Scala Ristorante. Their authentic Italian cuisine and impeccable wine selections are sure to satisfy any palate.; Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room. Since 1943, this charm- ing hidden gem is where comfort food, name- ly fried chicken, never disappoints. Other top spots are Chart House Restaurant, Moss+Oak Savannah Eatery, Water Witch Tiki, Belford’s Savannah Seafood & Steaks, Flying Fish Bar & Grill, Pie Society, Sting Ray’s Seafood, Cir- ca 1875, Driftaway Cafe, Husk Savannah, St.

Neo’s Brasserie, Bocci’s Italian Bistro, Tubby’s Seafood River Street, and Shabazz Seafood Restaurant. Rooftop bars and restaurants are some of the best in the Low Country, as well as basement bars, distilleries and European-in- spired pubs. Savannah boasts some of the fin- est craft spirits (and not just the spooky ones). Visit Ghost Coast Distillery, where visitors can partake in guided tours and tasty samples in their cocktail room. SPIRITS-TO-GO The before, during and after cocktail is an unwritten rule in Savannah. You can sip on the go in the Historic District (between River Street and Jones Street) thanks to Savannah’s open container law. If your beverage of choice is in an open, plastic to-go cup, containing no more than 16 ounces, you can be on your way to your next adventure. We’ll cheers to that! “IDC has, hands down, the best selection of wholesale priced diamonds in the state. We have over 2500 ring settings and hundreds of diamonds in stock every day. We have many pre-owned Rolex watches and showcases full of beautiful jewelry. We welcome your visit to our store at 349 Mall Boulevard in Savannah.”

CIRCLEOF LOVE WEDDING BANDS FOR EVERY MAN

Bands by Furrer Jacot.

Band by Gabriel.

Bands by Carlex.

For many men, a wedding band is the first and only piece of jewelry they own. For others, it’s one of many accessories. No matter which category you fit into, this unique and meaningful piece of jewelry will remind you of your love and the promises you share. Like fashion, wedding bands go through trend cycles, which means there are limitless options from which to choose. It’s important to find the right material, fit, and design for a piece that will be cherished for a lifetime. And it’s important to remember that you don’t need to settle for just one style — the trend now is to own more than one band for different looks and situations. Gold and platinum are the most popular and versatile materials for wedding bands. Platinum has an old world charm, and grooms love it for its grayish-white color. It is hypo- allergenic, extremely resistant to tarnishing and corrosion, and is known for its heavy weight and toughness. Gold, on the other hand, has a warm luster. While most people are accustomed to white metals, the yellow

or rose-toned golds have a pleasing glow. For those who are really adventurous, gold also comes in tones of green, brown, and black. If you want to go beyond the noble metals, there are other materials to consider. Palladium, from the platinum family, shares many of the same properties of platinum but is lighter and more affordable. Titanium is lightweight, yet three times stronger than steel and comes in several colors. Tungsten carbide, dark slate gray or black in color, has a weight similar to precious metals, but it is extremely durable and scratch resistant. The same is true of cobalt, and although it is not a precious metal, it has the look and appeal of white gold. Interest is also increasing in wooden bands and in metal bands with wooden accents. It’s masculine, warm, and reflects nature with the advantage of being unique and eco-friendly. These alternatives are worth investigating for their unusal styles and affordable pricing. Ring designs that feature Celtic knots, Nordic runes, sport motifs, nature, music, and words also make a ring distinctive and help express your personality.

Once you have made your material selection, the importance of the right fit and feel of your ring cannot be over overstated. Be sure to find a band that feels great. To compare just how different one ring can feel from another, try on bands of different widths, as well as weights. Also, sample rings in standard-fit (flat interior) and comfort-fit (curved interior). A band that fits well and feels natural will be one that you’ll want to wear every day. Now comes the fun part: design. Your ring should reflect your personality and lifestyle. That may require more than one ring. Choose one for each aspect of your lifestyle: sports, dress, business, classic, or adventure. Women have jewelry collections, so why shouldn’t men be able to mix it up once in awhile with bands of different metals, textures, inlays, colors, or designs. Some events call for a little bit of bling: choose a band with diamonds. Add gemstones to another. Put a special engraving on the inside of your everyday wear. The options are endless and there aren’t any rules. This is about you and what makes you and your love unique.

your big

it’s

day

BREAK IN YOUR SHOES (And Pack Flats for the Reception) As you walk down the aisle to your future spouse, the last thing you want to be thinking of is your feet, which is why you should break your shoes in before the big day. New shoes are a pain to walk in, literally. Try walking in them for a few weeks, just around the house to make sure they stay clean, so that they’re fully broken in before you walk down the aisle. Dancing the night away in heels is a challenge, even if you’re used to wearing them. You’ll spend most of your wedding day on your feet, so it’s smart to bring a backup pair of flats in case your feet begin to hurt. WEAR A BUTTON-UP SHIRT WHEN YOU GET YOUR HAIR DONE You’ve dedicated a lot of time to clothing recently. You’ve said yes to your dress, picked out your bridesmaids’ dresses, and probably helped your mom pick out her outfit as well. But chances are, you forgot to think about what you should wear the morning of the wedding. There’s a certain panic a bride exeperiences when she realizes she has to remove her shirt after getting her hair and makeup done. Thankfully, it’s an avoidable stress; simply wear a button-down shirt. You’ll be able to remove it easily without disturbing your new do. Chances are you’ve dreamed of your wedding since you were a little kid, running around with a pillowcase on your head as you imagined your happily ever after. After getting engaged, you probably spent countless days and nights planning your wedding to ensure every detail of your special day was perfect. It’s only normal, after all the dreaming and planning that you want to enjoy your magical day to the fullest. However, it’s easy for important moments to pass by in a blur. Below, you’ll find a few tips to help you make the most of every moment.

TAKE IT EASY THE WEEK OF THE WEDDING The months leading up to your wedding can be extremely stressful. While a wedding is a joyous event, it always requires a lot of time and preparation. After all your hard work, take the week of your wedding to unwind and relax. You want to have a clear mind leading up to your big day so you can be in the moment and enjoy the experience you’ve spent so long dreaming about. Everyone relaxes differently, so find what works for you. A few good ideas are: • Have a spa day • Get your nails done

• Get a massage • Take a long nap • Have dinner with friends • Binge-watch a show on Netflix

YOUR WEDDING IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST DAYS OF YOUR LIFE. IT ’S IMPORTANT TO EXPERIENCE AND ENJOY IT WHILE IT HAPPENS. REMEMBER, NO MATTER WHAT ELSE IS GOING ON, YOU’RE THERE TO CELEBRATE THE LOVE YOU AND YOUR SIGNIFICANT OTHER SHARE. AFTER ALL THE PLANNING AND DREAMING ,

YOU TWO DESERVE TO HAVE A TRULY MAGICAL NIGHT .

EAT AND BE MERRY While fitting into your dress is important, after all there’s a deadline for alterations, staying healthy is more important. Make sure you’re consuming enough food and water to stay energized and hydrated. It’s easy to skip breakfast on the morning of the wedding when there is still so much to be done, but your energy will fade mid-day if you don’t eat. Wake up, take a deep breathe, eat a balanced breakfast, and only then, start your to-do list. ASK YOUR CATERER TO SET ASIDE EXTRA FOOD Speaking of food, it’s all too easy to get so sucked into the festivities of the wedding that you’re unable to eat any of the delicious food you picked out and paid for. To avoid such a disaster, plan ahead. Don’t assume you’ll be one of the lucky ones that has time to sit down and enjoy a meal; instead, ask the caterer to set aside a plate for both you and your new spouse; this way, the two of you can enjoy it together after your guests have seen you off.

DON’T TAKE YOURSELF TOO SERIOUSLY Your pictures don’t have to be perfect. Things don’t have to go exactly according to plan. The night, while magical, might have a few hiccups, and that’s okay. Don’t spend the evening worrying about every little detail. Toast your new spouse. Dance with your guests. Enjoy the music. Snack while you can. Eat a piece of your cake. Laugh. Take silly pictures. Create lasting moments that you’ll remember long after the night is done. FOCUS ON THE MOMENT AT HAND There’s a lot going on that demands your attention on your wedding day. The photographer wants you to pose a certain way; everyone wants to see you and your new spouse dance together for the first time as newlyweds; your friends and family want to tell you how happy for and proud of you they are. These are all wonderful pieces of a beautiful puzzle, but it’s easy to get so distracted by what’s expected of you that you don’t actually stay in the moment. If you feel yourself becoming overwhelmed or focusing on the next task at hand, take a deep breath, look around, and remember what the day is all about.
