Every fragrance tells a story. What story does your favorite collection or scent aim to tell, and how did you choose the elements to convey it? Every one of our signature scents is my favorite! Honestly, each scent was created during a time in my life when I was connected to a feeling and then mixed different botanicals and plant-based essenc- es to connect to that feeling. I can then connect back to the origin of each signature scent each time I wear it. Each scent originates from a different place and tells a different story. For example, our oil essence “Solace” was created at a difficult time in my life. Therefore, I integrated specific ingredients to de- velop a comforting and soothing aroma. Our scent “Invoke” was made during a particularly dark and dreary winter when I dreamed of a vibrant and lus-
Developing a personal connection is important to us as a luxury jeweler, and we’re guessing the same goes for Ambre Blends. Is there a particular ritual or habit you have when creating a new fragrance? How does it help in the creative process? Each signature scent has existed in my mind be- fore I ever started the process of experimenting with botanical mixes to evoke it. My aromatic cre- ations come from a place that is reflective of my personal and world space at a particular point in time. The process of mixing and testing to come up with a unique and impactful formula is just a process of me trying to extract that original feel- ing and manifest it into a scent. How do you envision your fragrances being expe- rienced or used in the daily lives of your customers? Ambre Blends products become a lifestyle. Our customers experience the benefits of our products that are handmade, all natural and provide scents that are alluring and safer than perfumes and co- lognes. Ambre Blends becomes very personal and integrated into their lives. People experience emo- tional healing and spiritual connection through our signature scents and begin to internalize and identify our products with “their scent.” In a field steeped in tradition, similar to the jewelry industry, what’s one innovative approach or tech-
nique you’ve brought into your fragrance creation process? In this day and age of industrialization and chem- ical compounds, the innovation of Ambre Blends is that we continue to defy and resist such deg- radation. We carry on using traditional methods and intuition to guide our process. We do not use formulaic equations, synthetics or automation in our creative process—we use our heart and our nose. This remains true even after 25 years and with over 700 retailers. All Ambre Blends prod- ucts continue to be made in-house, by hand and with love. Are there any new trends or emerging materials in the fragrance world that you’re particularly excit- ed about exploring? The interesting thing is the trends and emerging ingredients and materials used in the fragrance world are moving to where Ambre Blends has been for twenty-five years. Ambre Blends’ use of organic, all-natural and vegan ingredients, which are sustainably harvested and packaged in recy- clable and biodegradable containers, is now the “trend” for the fragrance industry. However, we have been doing it successfully and authentically since 1999. Our originality is our strength and lu- minary as we progress into our future.
