CUSTOM DESIGNED FOR YOU

Do you have a vision for a one-of-a-kind necklace? Perhaps your soon-to-be bride envisions an engagement ring as unique and special as she is. No matter your imagination, Sheiban Jewelers can create it. The process begins with a one-on-one meeting where we’ll discuss your ideas and create a simple sketch that brings your vision to life. From there, your sketch becomes a digital design using Computer Aided Design (CAD) technology. This gives you a 3D look at your piece, allowing you to request any tweaks or adjustments before moving on to the next stage, a wax mold. The mold is used to cast your piece in the metal you’ve chosen. Here, the real magic begins, and this is where the expertise of our master goldsmiths shines. Once your unique design is cast, our artisans hand-finish the metal, ensuring every curve and edge meets our high-quality standards. Finally, the jewelry gets its finishing touches when our master stone setter carefully places each gemstone or diamond.

T here is no greater expression of your personal style than the accessories you choose. Picture this: you pull on an oversized navy sweatshirt and matching yoga pants (don’t judge, it’s chilly out!) Go ahead and throw your hair up in a messy bun, too. Got a visual? But before you leave your closet, grab a little choker-length necklace and a yellow gold long-link chain. Then a pair of diamond stud earrings and a big chunky aquamarine ring to wear on your middle finger - now how do those yoga pants look? You have style! And every day, you are empowered to choose it for yourself.

GO BIG OR GO HOME Color is the biggest story in fashion, and big, vibrant colorful gemstones are some of the season’s most sought after pieces. Like a kid in a candy store, you can gaze through all of the different colors and interesting shapes we have in stock. Some gems, like birthstones, can hold very special defined meanings, while others, like a blue topaz, may spark a memory of the crystal blue waters of the Caribbean.

START AT THE TOP A choker is a bold statement. Create a dramatic stack of necklaces with a slim-lined simple choker at the top; then work your way down adding longer lengths, adding additional necklaces to suit your outfit and mood for the day. If you choose a bold, thick choker or open necklace then it may look best all on its own.

GET IN THE MIX Taking a cue from the popularity of textures, we are now seeing a mix of different diamond cuts in single pieces of jewelry. Looks are organic, like different shapes sprinkled onto a ring, or diamonds puzzled together side by side. Beautiful and creative, for those who really like a unique style.

SYMBOLIC & SWEET Hearts and butterflies — both aflutter and full of whimsical meaning. Hearts = love, of course, so there is no mistaking the aura when you spot the Italian corazone gracefully hanging close to the skin. Butterflies — mesmerizing to watch, lighter than a feather, colorful, and delicately beautiful — are symbolic of new life and rebirth. Both provoke feelings of happiness, and a little happiness can go a long way.

PERSONAL POSH Imagine wearing your own little secret or shoutout right there for the world to see. Wear your own initials for that self-love we all need, or go sentimental with the initials of someone special. Whether it’s a dainty initial pendant or a bold monogrammed ring, this trend is all about celebrating YOU. And how about initial earrings? Mix and match for a playful, asymmetrical vibe, or keep it coordinated; the choice is yours, as it should be.

A VOYAGE INTO THE WORLD OF ROLEX Hans Wilsdorf was firmly convinced of a person’s ability to innovate and strive for excellence. More than 100 years after the creation of the brand, the founder’s philosophy is more present than ever, from the manufacturing of the company’s watches to its commitments worldwide.

HANS WILSDORF, 1945 Rolex founder and visionary entrepreneur.

19 | SHEIBAN JEWELERS MAGAZINE

a voyage into the world of rolex

“ T he opposition I encountered seemed insuperable.” At the turn of the 20th century, a visionary entrepreneur based in London was on the verge of success. His aim? To introduce the watchmaking world of the day to an as-yet-unknown dial signature: Rolex. A new name, invented in 1908, it would become one of the world’s most respected brands in the space of a few decades. As Hans Wilsdorf recounted in his memoirs of the early days of his company, the opposition he faced seemed insurmountable at first. The entrepreneur started out with very little, but he did possess invaluable qualities: vision, hope for the future, perseverance and an extraordinary ability to work. An orphan at the age of 12, with nothing other than his determination to help him overcome challenges, Hans Wilsdorf went on to invent the world’s first waterproof self-winding wristwatch with a Perpetual rotor — a watch that has become a benchmark in terms of quality and prestige. “Too complicated, too fragile, ill-adapted” — the wristwatch was met with scepticism in Edwardian England, then the sporting country par excellence. Yet, relying on his intuition, firmly- held beliefs and determination to push boundaries, Hans Wilsdorf managed to achieve his bold objective of establishing the Rolex watch — the Oyster Perpetual — as the archetype of the waterproof timepiece: precise, robust and able to withstand all conditions. But Hans Wilsdorf was not simply a visionary who, through his watchmaking knowledge, spirit of enterprise and ability to think differently, endowed Rolex watches with their fundamental technical and aesthetic characteristics and set the way for his company’s long-lasting success. His constant quest for perfection was accompanied by a profound generosity and unshakeable faith in human potential – in our capacity to both innovate and overcome difficulties. Hans Wilsdorf was a compassionate man always prepared to challenge himself and who encouraged others to give their all. Draw from traditions to drive innovation. Push back the limits to inspire. These convictions enabled Rolex to create an exceptional product — a watch that brings together considerable expertise and has accompanied a great many human adventures in widely diverse fields. Uniting expertise An integrated and independent company, Rolex has manufacturing resources that encompass a wide range of skills and knowledge. Watchmakers, engineers, designers and other specialists work closely together from the design to the manufacturing of the watches. Rolex’s company culture is based above all on human values, which place both expertise and soft skills at the heart of the brand’s different activities. Rolex is host to a variety of professions, brought to life by employees who are experts in their fields. This diversity comes from the company’s complete control over its essential components, from the casting of gold alloys to machining, finishing and assembly of the movement, case, dial and bracelet elements, as well as gem-setting.

As the world’s first waterproof wristwatch, the original 1926 Oyster played a pioneering role in the development of the modern timepiece.

The brand is able to constantly reinforce its quality requirements thanks to its exclusive equipment. Its know-how is also made available right across the world thanks to an exceptional after-sales service network. To ensure the brand’s expertise exists into the future, Rolex has its own unique Training Centre. Dedicated to the pursuit of excellence and the development of its employees, the center, located in Geneva, provides training to employees and instructs apprentices. The company aims to pass on to younger generations its pride in its skills and mastery of its knowledge. Hans Wilsdorf wanted to ensure both the commercial success of Rolex and the well-being of its employees. The Training Centre perpetuates this philosophy by passing on the company’s heritage through the training and development of each individual. It therefore affirms the brand’s position as a role model and source of inspiration for the present generation and for generations to come. A watch unlike the rest Nearly a century ago, Hans Wilsdorf created the most precise and reliable wristwatch in the world. Thanks to uncompromising requirements, today the brand still produces watches at the forefront of technology and continues to improve them over time. The Oyster Perpetual collection was built on the success of the original Oyster model, patented by Rolex and launched in 1926. As the world’s first waterproof wristwatch, it played a pioneering role in the development of the modern timepiece. Over the years, the Oyster became the proud bearer of many other innovations — such as self-winding by means of the Perpetual rotor (1931) — that defined the identity of the models in the collection and forged Rolex’s reputation for excellence, of which chronometric precision and reliability are among the cornerstones. After acquiring its definitive form in the early 1940s, the Oyster gradually evolved into a collection of watches that integrated new functions and innovative technologies. All of the collection’s models share fundamental features and a strong visual identity that makes them instantly recognizable. Today the collection consists of 12 ranges, split into two categories: Classic watches such as the Datejust, the Day-Date and the Sky-Dweller, and Professional watches, including the Explorer, the Submariner and the GMT-Master II, designed for specific activities. Rolex watches have proven their reliability in the most extreme conditions, from the deepest reaches of the ocean to the top of the highest mountains, in the air and on the racing circuit. To ensure the quality of its products, Rolex designs and produces in-house the essential components of its watches (casting of gold alloys, assembly of the movement, case, dial and bracelet, machining and finishing). As the pioneer of the wristwatch, the company is at the origin of numerous major innovations in the watchmaking industry and has filed over 500 patents in the course of its history.

a voyage into the world of rolex

Commitment to making the world a better place Throughout its history, Rolex has partnered with events, institutions and individuals whose commitment and actions are a source of inspiration. Guided by the vision of its founder, the brand was quick to support and accompany initiatives that aligned with its own values – the quest for excellence, pushing the boundaries and the passion for elegance. This is how Rolex created the Testimonee concept in 1927 with British swimmer Mercedes Gleitze, who demonstrated the waterproofness of the brand’s watches. Since then, Rolex has teamed up with a large number of exceptional partners, supporting the initiatives of major organizations as well as personal projects of its Testimonees. For Hans Wilsdorf, the world was also a living laboratory. In the 1930s, Rolex tested its watches in real-life conditions. Explorers subjected them to some of the most extreme conditions in the least hospitable corners of the globe. But, over time, these expeditions also highlighted the fragility of

the planet’s ecosystems and the need to preserve them. Rolex therefore gave its full support to the adventurers who went on to become pioneers in protecting the environment. Today, Rolex is linked to more than 100 major international events ranging from The Championships, Wimbledon, to La Biennale di Venezia and the Oscars® ceremony, while also enjoying close ties with more than 80 renowned institutions, such as The R&A, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The brand also has more than 140 Testimonees, including tennis legend Roger Federer, marine biologist Sylvia Earle and filmmaker Martin Scorsese. In addition, two programmes were created: the Rolex Awards for Enterprise and the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative. The former supports individuals with innovative projects in response to major challenges, while the latter champions excellence in the arts and culture to ensure the world’s artistic heritage is passed on to the next generation. Since the beginning, the story of Rolex has been characterized by the quest for perfection and the ambition to push back the boundaries. To strive to do better, to never give up, to think differently. Thanks to its founder Hans Wilsdorf, who believed in human potential above all, the brand has continued to innovate and grow, thereby guaranteeing its long-lasting success.

ADRENALINE 2024 LAMBORGHINI REVUELTO WHO SAYS ELECTRIC VEHICLES CAN’T BE A CHARGE TO DRIVE? AUTOMOBILI LAMBORGHINI, RENOWNED FOR ITS EXTREME GAS-GUZZLER SPORTS CARS, CELEBRATES ITS 60TH ANNIVERSARY WITH ITS FIRST HIGH-PERFORMANCE ELECTRIFIED VEHICLE, THE REVUELTO .

MADE VISIBLE.

T he Revuelto is evolutionary rather than revolutionary. It’s a plug-in hybrid with a traditional naturally aspirated V12 engine, an eight-speed, double-clutch transverse gearbox, and three electric motors for a total output of 1,001 horsepower. While no models have been available for testing, Lamborghini claims it can reach 62 mph in just 2.5 seconds and reach a top speed of more than 217 mph.

All the power is managed by 13 drive modes, and all-wheel drive is also available in fully electric mode for the absolute driving experience. A lithium-ion high-power battery pack powers the three electric motors. As with other performance-oriented hybrids, such as the Ferrari SF90 Stradale, the goal is not better fuel economy but exhilarating acceleration. “The Revuelto It is a unique and innovative car but at the same time faithful to our DNA: the V12

is an iconic symbol of our super sports heritage and history. Revuelto was born to break the mold, combining a new 12-cylinder engine with hybrid technology, creating the perfect balance between delivering the emotion that our clients want with the necessity to reduce emissions,” says Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini Chairman and CEO.

26 | SHEIBAN JEWELERS MAGAZINE

DESIGN DNA While Revuelto delivers a quantum leap in automotive, the heritage of previous V12 legends is unmistakable. The 1971 Countach prototype defined the Lamborghini sports car and intro- duced one of the most distinctive Lamborghini elements: the vertically opening scissor doors, which contribute to the character of Revuelto. The new car references the incomparable pro- portions and distinctive floating blade on the rear fender of the Diablo, while the muscularity and inclined front of the Murciélago are fully evident. Ultimately, the Revuelto is adrenaline made visible. INTERIOR APPOINTMENTS The cockpit lives up to the name, with a spaceship vibe. Two seats only – if you want a Lamborghini with room for four, get a Urus. The steering wheel is mission control with four rotors on the steering wheel to control drive modes and more buttons to activate turn signals and initiate launch control. The good news is, there’s more headroom and legroom than the previous Aventador, and space behind the seats can hold a golf bag. The frunk will swallow a couple of carry-on-size bags.

AERODYNAMIC CONTROL The aerodynamics synch with the semi-ac- tive wishbone suspension through the model-ex- clusive Lamborghini Vertical Control system. The system electronically manages vertical force exchanges, such as sudden load transfers during track driving, interfacing with the suspension and rear wing in real time. DRIVING EXPERIENCE Engineers thoughtfully developed the Re- vuelto to deliver absolute excitement and con- trol in all grip conditions. The new architecture features nearly neutral weight distribution (44% front, 56% rear), resulting in athletic balance that makes the Revuelto extremely agile both on the road and in the curves of a circuit. Thanks to the e-axle, the Revuelto introduces electric torque vectoring to elevate the car’s agil- ity in slow-speed sharp corners as well as its stabil- ity in high-speed situations. Torque is distributed as needed, in cooperation with the four-wheel steering system. Unlike conventional systems, torque vector- ing intervenes on the brakes only when necessary for a more natural driving style and to bolster the driver’s confidence. During braking, the e-axle and rear electric motor assist in deceleration, reducing

stress on the brakes while recharging the battery. It rides on specially developed Bridgestone Po- tenza Sport tires. For those drivers who are experienced or brave enough, the electronic stability control can be disabled to experience maximum power with- out active safety limits. Feel the thrill of a standing start at full power via the launch control function, which is activated by holding down the button in the center of the left rotor on the steering wheel. INNOVATION ON THE LINE Behind the Revuelto’s innovative design are innovations in manufacturing. While the Revuelto is a highly customizable hybrid car, it’s built using traditional handcrafted skills. Engineers created the Manifattura Lamborghini Next Level, a pro- duction system with people always at its core but adapted to deliver a much more complex product and to integrate new processes. The assembly line synthesizes manual skills and innovations, significantly reducing the pos- sibility of error along with greater production speed, benefiting build quality. The base price of the 2024 Revuelto starts at $895,000, but the first two years of production are already reserved.

DUSTY HUNTER

I n 2020, wine importer and distributor Caroline Debbané discovered a noteworthy alcohol collection in a cellar in Lakeview Terrace, a suburb in the San Fernando Valley. The collection belonged to Hollywood heavyweight producer Cecil B. DeMille ( The Ten Commandments, King of Kings ). Over 200 bottles were found — some empty, some full — of spirits, wines, and ports. The exceptional collection was just sold for five figures, a major score for a growing legion of booze “dusty hunters.” The New York Times

hit shelves. They are often still marked with the original price sticker from 1970! Be careful, though, loose lips can actually backfire on you. A less-than-savvy hunter calls a shop owner and makes some comment on how much more a located bottle is worth, and lo-and-behold, when they arrive, they find a shiny new, market value sticker price. The real rule is if you see it, buy it, leave, and give thanks to the whiskey gods. This booze hunting hobby has truly grown nationwide, making it more difficult to procure vintage treasures. After all, prices for collectors

have skyrocketed. Over the past decade, people have begun to realize that buying old bottles is like building an investment portfolio. In some cases, bottles that cost $20 have become worth as much as

describes dusty hunters as people searching for “still- sealed bottles of vintage alcohol, usually American whiskey.” However, cruising around town hunting for bottles of George

GREAT VINTAGE WHISKEYS ARE NOT BORN...THEY ARE FOUND

Whiskey has a unique status as an investable item because it has a very stable longevity compared to other alternate investments. Distilleries no longer in production still enjoy confident positions in whiskey investor rankings, because their diminishing stock appreciates in value the more time passes. In addition, as with most commodities, production and inventory levels are down, creating attractive investment opportunities.

$800. Hunting these bottles down is a lot more fun than buying a stock. Like treasure hunting shipwrecks in the Caribbean, it is exhilarating, exciting, and lends itself to great adventures. If you’re looking to get into dusty hunting, follow the exploits of Eric Witz; his Instagram @aphonik goes into minute detail about many of his discoveries. Or you could check out bars that showcase their owner’s extensive collections, be it Canon in Seattle, Brooklyn Heights Wine Bar & Kitchen in New York City, The Crunkleton in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Milk Room in Chicago, Old Lightning in Los Angeles, or the Jack Rose Dining Saloon in Washington, D.C. With the recent proliferation of collectors, there are sure to be more examples every day.

T. Stagg isn’t just a fruitless endeavor — it’s a quite foolish one as well. That’s not exactly dusty hunting. Dusty hunting is more readily recognized as driving to out-of-the-way liquor stores in small towns and remote locations in search of old bottles. Not all dusty bottles are desirable, of course. You’ll need to be able to read barcodes, identify tax stamps, and know where good “juice” was distilled and when. Opportunists who have developed these skills could end up scoring some major rarities — rarities most folks aren’t schooled enough to even know are worthy. Why? Because whiskey doesn’t age — or usually degrade — once bottled, no matter how old it gets. The real bonus is that these dusties can often be found for the low, low retail prices at which they first

Beachside discos, clubs, and bars ensure the place never sleeps. The clubbing season starts in mid-June when the opening parties

bring the towns of San Antonio and Ibiza Town, the island’s capital, to life. The good times continue, all day, all night, and well into the next morning hours, through late September. Unlike many other glittering resort communities, Ibiza Town is actually a living, breathing place with an interesting old quarter with ample interests for families and older visitors alike. The island effectively closes down through the winter, which is

when people seeking something more tranquil and picturesque tend to visit. Keep in mind that although you’re on an island in the Medi- terranean, highs are only in the 60s November through April. In Ibiza, taxis are a useful way to travel around the towns and visit nearby sites and attractions. Citizens of EU member countries require a national driving license to drive cars in Spain. Citizens from non-EU member countries need an international driving permit as well as their national driving license. Beware of what appear to be shortcuts on maps; these often turn out to be unpaved roads or mountain passes. Ibiza offers a variety of culinary delights. The town centers tend to offer street food for hungry clubbers, but away from the main tourist districts, there are restaurants and cafés serving lucious food from all over the world, including traditional Spanish and Ibizan dishes. A favorite lunch spot is the quaint Cala Gracioneta, a beach restaurant in San Antonio, where you will likely hear live music while enjoying their famous paella or cuttlefish croquettes. A romantic dining experience under lights strung between the trees beckons at Aubergine by Atzaró. The restaurant features a farm to table menu with endless delicacies. For the best view of Dalt Vila at sunset, dine at Café Montesol at the Montesol Experimental boutique hotel. Enjoy a truly visual feast and the best wine selection on the island.

As you explore inland, you’ll find the landscape is harsh, dry, and rocky. Discover a pure and simple Mediterranean culture, including the impressions of indigenous populations that inhabited the island thousands of years ago, such as the famous wall paintings of Ses Fontelles. The Cova de can Marcá is also well worth exploring. It is a cave system located above San Miguel bay that is over one hundred thousand years old and was once used by tobacco and liquor smugglers. It’s home to an impressive collection of stalactites and stalagmites. The saltpans of Las Salinas are one of the island’s most popular tourist attractions. Every year, some 2,500 cubic meters of seawater flood a network of manmade channels; the water is then allowed to evaporate under the relentless summer sun, leaving behind a pinky-white salt crust that glistens as the sun sets over it every evening. The result is truly spectacular.

Now, you can find denim in every corner of the fashion industry. Designers and fashion houses embrace its transformative capabilities, producing styles from faded jeans to embellished jackets and tailored denim dresses — everything your wardrobe needs to make a statement or transition between seasons. dress me up BY JENNIFER BRUGH

Green remains the hottest color in luxury watches for the second year running. Green dials look beautiful in either steel or gold cases, so it’s no surprise that it has gone mainstream in luxury watches. It has long been the color that represents ecology and the environment. It is the color of green spaces, spring, regeneration, and fertility. There are more shades of green than any other color, and it seems they are all represented on watch dials this year. CONTEMPORARY CUISINE

START AT THE BOTTOM An oversized wooden cutting board is classic, but options abound. Really, a flat, clean slab of just about anything will work. A cookie sheet with a decorative towel? Great idea! A scrap piece of plywood washed and rinsed? That works. Directly on the counter top, table, or kitchen island? Absolutely! Hint: layout some parchment paper first for easy cleanup.

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE MEAT The original charcuterers in 15th-century France would cure and store meats to be sold throughout the year in local villages. In the modern English vernacular, charcuterie evokes visions of piled platters of various fresh delicacies, but the meat is the star of the show. Start by selecting and placing a variety of flavorful cured meats around your board and build everything else around them.

VISUAL FIESTA Look for ways to make it visually enticing. Bright reds, earthy greens and browns, warm, buttery yellows, rich purples, and pops of white make eyes open wide and mouths water in preparation for that first delicious bite.

CONTRAST IS KEY Obviously, flavor is important, but don’t forget texture. Every great charcuterie board offers options to build a complex sensory experience with

every bite. Crunchy crackers and croutons, creamy Gouda and goat cheese, spicy pastrami, hot peppers, cooling cream cheese and fresh veggies, sweet fruits and jams, salty nuts, sinus-clearing Dijon mustard, tangy olives and pickles — the options are endless. Make it your own, and make it exciting and fun with plenty of contrast.

ZHUZH IT UP Looking for that little extra wow? transform your board from everyday to oo-la-la with herbal garnishes. Fresh, colorful aromatics lift your presentation to that next level, and they smell good too! Bright green sprigs of rosemary, thyme, mint, lavender, or basil leaves poking out here and there, filling the spaces and celebrating the bountiful display of yummies, are the cherry on top! Mmmmm, come to think of it, fresh cherries are a great idea too!

HAPPY FOR HOURS

french martini what’s hot for 2023?

INGREDIENTS 2 oz. Vodka 1/2 oz. Creme de cassis 1 1/2 oz. Pineapple juice

T he “French” moniker is due to the cocktail including Chambord black raspberry liqueur, which has been produced in France since the 17th century. The Chambord, along with the pineapple juice, adds rich fruit flavor to the drink. When shaken hard with plenty of ice, the pineapple juice creates a pleasantly creamy mouthfeel and a frothy head. This recipe was created by venerable bartender and distiller Allen Katz, who offers his own small update on the classic by using creme de cassis in lieu of Chambord. This tweak imparts a deeper flavor, as the currants in creme de cassis are a sharper than Chambord’s raspberries.

INSTRUCTIONS Step 1

Add the vodka, creme de cassis, and pineapple juice into a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled.

Step 2

Fine-strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

DIAMOND SOLITAIRE ENGAGEMENT RING

48 | SHEIBAN JEWELERS MAGAZINE

The diamond solitaire engagement ring is a traditional ring design that has continued to evolve and meet the desires of almost every bride. Today we see not just round-brilliant solitaires, but elongated cuts like oval, marquise, and emerald shapes, which can be set in either north-south or east-west configurations. The diamond could even be set askew or off center, in a complete reinterpretation of the traditional design. The diamond can be prong set for a more classic look, or if a more modern style is desired, consider a bezel or tension setting. A bezel setting has the added benefit of protecting a diamond from knocks and scrapes.

You can create an even more distinctive ring that is all your own by choosing your favorite metal color — or a combination of colors — and opting for small diamonds or other gemstone accents. The particular way in which all these elements come together is what makes your diamond solitaire distinctive. When that perfect ring is slipped on your finger, it will feel like it belongs there. Even though each design can be subtly unique, all solitaire diamond rings have one thing in common: they have the power to capture the essence of grace and refinement — perfect for those who appreciate understated elegance.
