ENGAGEMENT RINGS by Brinker’s Jewelers CUSTOM

Y ou may be asking yourself what makes A Brinker’s Diamond different from any other diamond? In an era of big corporations and mass-produced jewelry, we value the tradition of hand selecting every diamond. Our process even goes one step further, ensuring every diamond is hand selected by an owner of the company — that’s why it is called A Brinker’s Diamond. Using their trained eye and knowledge from the generations before them, they carefully select each diamond based on beauty, value, and the Gemological Institute of America’s 4C’s— color, clarity, cut, and carat weight. Brinker’s Jewelers is a socially responsible company that thinks globally and acts locally. The company ensures all diamonds are ethically sourced via the Kimberley Process and is responsible for hundreds of thousands of dollars raised for local causes and cultural organizations that are critical to the communities that Brinker’s Jewelers serves. Brinker’s Jewelers’ talented team of jewelry professionals and master jewelers use state-of-the-art equipment and over 300 years of combined experience to help customers create highly personalized jewelry to celebrate defining moments in their lives. No matter where you draw your inspiration, any idea can be created from scratch at our on-site manufacturing facility. This collaborative effort will give you the confidence of understanding the quality and integrity of the diamonds, gemstones, and precious metals being used to bring your perfect engagement ring to life. We start with hand drawings, photos, and sketches to ensure we capture your vision. Using CAD/CAM design to create three-dimensional versions of your desired design, we can show a mock replica in several angles to capture color, form, and function. Next, we create a three-dimensional wax

One of the fastest and most exciting trends is ring stacking. Not only is this a great way to express your individuality, your rings can tell the story of your life. Here are some pointers to help you build your look.

VARY TYPES Mix it up and keep variety in mind while also showing good balance. Statement Rings — Start here with your engagement ring or a vintage cocktail ring. The statement ring will be the center of attention, and you build around it. Eternity Rings — Some of the most beautiful ring stacks include an eternity ring. Don’t be afraid of using different stone shapes and metals to create interesting texture and visual appeal. Classic Bands —Think simple metal bands in yellow gold, rose gold, or white gold. They can also have smooth or textured surfaces for added interest. There are so many options and combos from which to choose. Mix and match metals for the most modern look. Add bands with colored gemstones for added punch. Building your stack over time allows you to express your life’s most celebrated moments. RINGS TO MARRY YOUR PERSONALITY

W e took a page out of our high school yearbook to create this fun style guide and highlight a few of our favorite engagement rings. After all, jewelry is the ultimate expression of your style and engagement rings, just like each individual who wears one, have unique personalities all of their own. When selecting a ring, the options can seem endless, so begin by seeing which styles you naturally gravitate toward. Then, come on in and see a bigger selection of rings that suit your style. Because we make shopping for rings fun!

An engagement ring in a modern design is an opportunity to use various metals or colors that can reveal your individual style. Mixed metals give rings a certain type of flair that can be realized in a single ring or by choosing different metals for each of your rings that you wear in a stacking style. Alternatively, add color through your center stone, accents or even your band, and show the world you do things your own way. The possibilities are endless.

life of the party

Nobody puts these babies in a corner. You’ll be the life of the party when you don one of these popular multi-stone engagement rings. Your ring symbolizes the love between you and your betrothed, but you can still invite more to the party — include three, four, five, or more gems to create more sparkle on the dance floor. Varying the gem combination as well as the cut, carat weight, and placement makes this concept even more personal. Engagement rings last a lifetime, so the party can go on and on.

most likely to succeed

Classic rings are enduring, elegant, and always timeless in style. You will be the envy of all of your friends, whether you choose a traditional six-prong setting with a diamond solitaire, pavé diamonds, or a simple, unadorned band. To add a bit of flair to your solitaire, include a bezel or half bezel around the center stone to give your ring a modern twist. The classic three-stone ring offers a weightier effect. Feature it with ovals, emeralds, or marquise-cut stones for a fresh look. Beautiful styles have staying power for a reason.

DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT

METRO-CHIC DAVID YURMAN’S NEW JEWELRY CONVEYS DOWNTOWN NEW YORK’S LIVELY ARTISTIC ENERGY

D avid Yurman is constantly sketching new jewelry designs, sometimes on a napkin at a café and other times at his desk or the kitchen table. Those drawings were the starting point for the brand’s stylish new Mercer collection, which was inspired by downtown New York’s bustling rhythm and artistic energy and named for the street in SoHo. For the Yurman family, every jewelry collection is a personal expression. The Mercer collection pays homage to David and his wife Sybil’s downtown roots. In SoHo, they began their careers as artists: back in the 1960s and 1970s, they were among the neighborhood’s early residents — David’s first studio was on Sullivan Street and Sybil worked at the Max Hutchinson Gallery on Greene Street. Their son Evan, the company’s president, grew up on the streets of SoHo and along the Tribeca waterfront. “There was something carefree but still endearingly grave about the work that came from there then,” said Evan about the downtown artistic vibe. “The work ignored the old boundaries separating art from dance from music from architecture, and instead found fresh ground in the interstices between art and life.” The neighborhood’s dynamic energy fueled the family’s lasting passion for art, design and craft, and breaking boundaries.

Evan Yurman

DESIGN IS A FAMILY AFFAIR Each member of the family has creative input on every new collection. That family spirit caught the attention of actress Scarlett Johansson, another native New Yorker and the brand’s ambassador. “What’s really touching about the David Yurman story is this familial love and passion,” said Johansson. Recently, she layered on different jewelry pieces, which Sybil pointed out were each designed by one of the Yurmans. “Sybil was so excited to see the pieces all together,” she said. “The pieces are very much like a family, just this mesh of beautiful things that is different but goes together.” Johansson grew up seeing David Yurman’s advertising campaigns and jewelry around New York City, which shaped her own jewelry style. “You would always see the beautiful black and white photos and it was this effortlessly chic woman whose jewelry was part of her everyday life. She had this glamourous appeal but was never trying.”

Scarlett Johansson

22 BRINKER’S JEWELERS MAGAZINE

The Mercer collection is an evolution of that effortlessly elegant Yurman style. It began with David’s drawing of a reimagined oval link in a more sculptural, sensual shape. That link was forged in 18k yellow and rose gold and burnished silver and combined with the company’s iconic Cable motif and diamonds. The lively spirit of downtown New York is expressed in the curated mix of metal, proportion, and shiny and matte finishes. “Over the decades, our linked chains have become iconic, and so emblematic of the brand,” said Evan. “It’s really a part of our foundation as a company, but also as a family. One of the first things my dad sculpted for my mom was a direct- welded necklace.” The Mercer’s oval links also

carved in wax by one of the company’s in-house master craftsmen, handmade and hand-finished like a piece of sculpture. “You can feel in the pieces that they are handcrafted and cared about, and it feels very personal,” said Johansson. “It’s not something that’s mass manufactured.” That attention to detail and individualistic quality is embodied in the Mercer Mélange bracelet, which combines 18k rose gold and burnished silver oval links with smaller Cable links, a Cognac diamond link, and toggle closure with white diamond detail. Designs also come in elegant yet bold 18k yellow gold and diamond choker length necklaces, drop earrings, and multi-row rings. It’s instantly recognizable as David Yurman and seamlessly integrates with past collections. “Each piece has real intention to it and spirit about it and is made with a lot of love,” said Johansson. “You feel that from the brand, and it’s really authentic.”

JAPANESE DELICACY

NIGIRI, MAKI, AND BEYOND: UNRAVELING THE SUSHI VARIETIES Sushi comes in a delightful array of forms, each offering a distinct experience. Nigiri sushi, the most classic variety, consists of a small ball of vinegared rice topped with a slice of fish or other delectable ingredients. Maki rolls, on the other hand, are rice and fillings wrapped in seaweed and cut into bite-sized pieces — a playful way to enjoy sushi with endless creative combinations. For the purists seeking unadulterated seafood pleasure, sashimi is the way to go. No rice, just pristine slices of raw fish, allowing the natural flavors to shine. Remember, sashimi is best enjoyed when dipped lightly into soy sauce with a touch of wasabi, allowing the natural flavors to take center stage. BEYOND TRADITION: FUSION SUSHI AND UNIQUE CREATIONS Innovative chefs around the world have embraced sushi as a canvas for culinary experimentation. The rise of fusion sushi has brought exciting blends of flavors and cultural influences to the table. Imagine a spicy tuna roll with a hint of Mexican flair, or a decadent dessert sushi, featuring sweet fillings and drizzled with chocolate. These daring creations challenge tradition while celebrating the essence of sushi — a delightful celebration of taste and imagination. SAKE SYMBIOSIS: THE PERFECT SUSHI PAIRING No sushi feast is complete without a perfect beverage companion. Enter sake, Japan’s iconic rice wine. With its smooth and subtle flavors, sake complements the delicate nuances of sushi like no other. From dry and crisp options to aromatic and fruity varieties, sake adds an extra layer of joy to your culinary journey. So, don’t forget to raise your glass and say “Kanpai!” (cheers) before diving into your sushi indulgence. SUSHI SENSATIONS A JOURNEY INTO JAPAN’S IRRESISTIBLE DELICACY! A re you ready to embark on a delightful adventure through the tantalizing world of sushi? This iconic Japanese cuisine has captured the hearts and taste buds of food enthusiasts worldwide. With its unique blend of flavors, textures, and artistry, sushi has become more than just a meal — it’s a sensorial experience that leaves a lasting impression. One of the aspects that makes sushi a versatile culinary delight is the choice between raw and cooked options. If you’re unsure about raw fish, don’t worry, there are plenty of cooked alternatives that offer equally gratifying taste experiences. But if you’re feeling adventurous, give raw fish a chance!

SUSHI SENSATIONS GO VEGAN For our plant-based foodies, worry not — sushi has embraced the vegan movement too! Vegan sushi options are flourishing, with creative fillings like avocado, cucumber, mango, and tempura sweet potato. These colorful and flavorful rolls are a testament to the ever-evolving nature of sushi, embracing inclusivity and appealing to a diverse audience. Sushi isn’t just a meal; it’s an orchestra of flavors and textures, a celebration of tradition and innovation, and a journey into the heart of Japan’s rich culinary heritage. Kanpai to sushi adventures!

PICKLEBALL TAKING THE WORLD BY STORM

F rom YMCAs to driveways, from school playgrounds to country club courts, a new sport has emerged, and it’s captivating people of all ages and fitness levels. Pickleball, a hybrid of tennis, badminton, and ping pong, with its fast-paced action, easy accessibility, and addictive gameplay is taking the world by storm. What started as a niche backyard activity has now evolved into a juggernaut, attracting millions of enthusiasts worldwide. Pickleball’s origins can be traced back to the mid-1960s when it was invented by three dads on Bainbridge Island, Washington. Named after the family dog, Pickles, who would often chase the ball and run off with it, the sport quickly spread around their local community. Fast forward to today and pickleball has become a global phenomenon, played on dedicated courts, in community centers, and even at professional tournaments. One of the key factors contributing to pickleball’s exponential growth is its accessibility. Unlike some traditional sports, pickleball is easy to learn and can be played by people of all ages and athletic abilities. The court is smaller than a tennis court, and the lightweight paddles and plastic balls are more forgiving, making it less physically demanding on the body. This accessibility has made pickleball a popular choice for older adults looking to stay active and socialize.

The community aspect of pickleball has also played a significant role in the sport’s growth. With the rise of social media and online platforms, players from around the world can connect, share their experiences, and organize events. This shared connection has fostered a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, making pickleball an ideal sport for building friendships and networks. Professional pickleball tournaments have also emerged, attracting top athletes, further boosting the sport’s visibility. As the sport gains more recognition, it’s likely to attract even larger audiences and sponsorship opportunities, elevating it to new heights. As the sport continues to evolve, it’s clear that pickleball is here to stay. So grab a paddle, find a court, and join the pickleball revolution today!

We’re living in a golden age of personal expression, trending across race, gender, age, and status, and that means there’s never been a better time for men to flex with some well-chosen jewelry. Here are a few suggestions to help dapper dudes start — or add to — their collections.

Necklaces are a fantastic category for men to consider. A chain of any length and size can be tucked inside a shirt for an understated approach or pulled free to drape proudly across the chest. Smaller links give a subtle look, while chunky chains have a bold beauty of their own. Many men’s pendants feature silhouettes inspired by dog tags to evoke the qualities of strength, bravery, and honor associated with traditional military styles. Layering allows for maximum versatility and self-expression: wear one necklace alone or stack a few together to build your own look. Wristwear is another jewelry genre for the modern man. Like watches, bracelets are visible when worn but won’t get in a busy guy’s way as he goes about his day. From the chic gleam of a sleek cuff peeking out from a tailored shirtsleeve to the compelling texture of a leather bracelet accentuating a powerful forearm, there are many options available for the man who wants to try rocking a bracelet. A well-chosen chain will go with any outfit, while beaded and braided styles can be a great way to add some flair to a bracelet without making it feel overly fussy. We can’t talk about men’s jewelry without mentioning rings. Many men are already comfortable wearing a wedding band, so why not consider acquiring a wardrobe of alternate wedding bands to switch up the mood for different occasions? If we look beyond the fourth finger of the left hand, many men find themselves drawn to signet rings. These hefty, bold, often personalized pieces date back to ancient times, when a nobleman would wear a signet with his official seal to mark correspondence. Today, signet rings are usually engraved with initials or meaningful symbols, or set with gems. Decorative knives are another great way to express personal style. They are often made by experienced jewelry designers and can display truly luxurious craftsmanship. Beautiful blades, adorned handles, and thoughtful details make these pieces of weaponry feel more like portable art than mere tools. Today, men who wear jewelry are associated with power and panache; throughout history, jewelry has been worn by kings, pirates, rock stars, and trendsetters. Not convinced or need more style inspo? Look up photos of the Rock, Harry Styles, and Usher, and check out how good these famous jewelry- loving men look when they wear their treasures in real life.

T he recent craze for vintage watches and re-editions of mid-century designs has intensified in recent years, and along with that, smaller watches have become a trend. In the 1960s and ’70s — which many see as the glory days of watch design — wristwatch cases rarely exceeded 40 mm, and timepiece lovers have acquired a new appreciation for these smaller cases, combined with the vintage aesthetic. TAG Heuer’s glass box Carrera Chronograph is a prime example of what luxury sports watch brands are doing to bring back the spirit of iconic vintage watches.

the TAG HEUER CARRERA GLASS BOX CHRONOGRAPH

REVISITING AN ICON

The glass box was inspired by an original Carrera collection from the ’60s, including models that ranged in size from 36 mm to 40 mm. The new version is 39 mm, smaller than the 42-45 mm sizes that have been produced in the past few years. One of its salient features, as the name suggests, is the sapphire crystal shaped liked the domed hesalite crystals found on Heuer Carrera models from the 1970s. Now, the crystal has been redeveloped so that the curve flows seamlessly over the tachymeter scale that runs around the inner dial, or flange. The scale has been curved too, further contributing to the watch’s legibility and ensuring that tachymeter can be read from a wider range of angles. The Carrera’s signature blue dial makes an appearance on one of the two re-editions, matched by a blue calfskin leather strap. The second has a racier, black-and-silver “reverse-panda” dial, the nickname given to black watch dials with high-contrast white or silver subdials. The reverse-panda model is a coveted feature found on some of the most collected Heuer Carreras of the 1960s. Both new models contain the brand’s next-generation chronograph caliber, the automatic Caliber TH20-00, with an 80-hour power reserve.

LUXURY WATCHMAKERS HAVE DISCOVERED THE POWER OF COLOR!

TIME THE MANY COLORS OF

Bold colored straps and dials were once the trademark of quartz fashion watches, but now luxury watch brands have discovered the color wheel, and they are taking it to the next level. It’s no longer just about pink straps and purple tinted dials — although there is plenty of that — but infusing components of the watch with permanent color. That means new case materials, anodized or illuminated bridges and other components of the movement, colored dial plates that have been treated with vibrant enamel and miniature painting, and, of course, plenty of dazzling gem setting, including various applications of rainbow sapphires. The result is a blast of intense, joyful, edgy color that is beyond refreshing. Among the new introductions for ladies, pink is hot right now — to match your pink diamonds! — and purple is emerging in unlikely places, not just on ladies’ watches but on some daring men’s pieces. The hottest colors for men include blue, green, and salmon. Salmon is especially interesting from a collectible point of view. The color is often used on special editions, with high complications or platinum cases — watches that are very limited and highly coveted. Salmon dials are also a craze in the vintage sector — the color was popular in the 1940s, and pieces made by luxury brands from that period are hot. Here are a few examples of how color is heating up the luxury watch market right now.

ROLEX OYSTER PERPETUAL CELEBRATION Rolex has pulled out all the creative stops in its 2023 collection, including this joyful take on the traditional Oyster Perpetual. The dial is lacquered with 51 bubbles in bright colors: turquoise blue, candy pink, yellow, coral, red, and green. Each color is applied and fired separately, followed by the application of black lacquer borders on each bubble. Sizes begin small, at 31 mm, and there are also 36 mm and 41 mm sizes. All cases are steel, and movements are automatic.

SEIKO SPB291 The King Seiko Special Edition recalls the wisteria that bloom in the Kameido Tenjin Shrine in Kameido, Japan — the birthplace of King Seiko watches. The dial is a color known as Tenjin-fuji violet, a shade as nuanced as the perfume of the flower that inspired it. The watch’s sleek 37 mm stainless steel case is water resistant to 100 meters. Inside is an automatic mechanical movement with a 70-hour power reserve.

NOMOS AHOI NEOMATIK ATLANTIK Nomos is one of the most respected brands among watch aficionados for its sleek designs and superlative quality. The Ahoi Neomatik is a very wearable (36.3 mm) dive watch that will take you to 200 meters, with hands and indexes that light up underwater with Super- LumiNova that glows green in the dark.

ORIS PROPILOT X KERMIT EDITION Surely the most cheerful introduction of the year is the Oris ProPilot X Kermit Edition. Oris collaborated with Disney (which owns the Muppets) for the watch. It has a tiny portrait of Kermit that appears in the date window at 6 o’clock on the first of every month. The dial is Kermit-green, the case is titanium, and the movement is the automatic Oris caliber 400 with a 120-hour power reserve.

A Tribute to 110 Years of Seiko Watchmaking The Seiko Presage Craftsmanship Series Limited Editions

Seiko’s legacy as a watchmaker spans more than a century, dating to 1913 with the introduction of Japan’s first wristwatch, the iconic Laurel. In celebration of its 110-year history of making wristwatches, Seiko is now honoring the generations of skilled craftsmen who paved the way for its success by adding four limited-edition models to the Presage Craftmanship Series. Each of the four new limited-edition timepieces is a work of art, meticulously constructed with Seiko’s Caliber 6R24 and 6R27 self-winding movements and featuring stunning dials created by four master craftsmen using traditional Japanese techniques.

Enamel Honoring the traditions of our forerunners

SPB393 $1,450

Japan’s watchmaking industry took a monumental leap forward with its first wristwatch in 1913, the Seiko Laurel, which featured an exquisite and durable enamel dial in a warm white color with a soft luster. Enameling is a process of applying a glaze with minimal impurities to an iron-based material and then firing it at high temperature. Seiko continues to hold this traditional technique in high esteem for its unparalleled beauty. Creating an enamel watch dial requires a high level of skill. Master enamel craftsman Mitsuru Yokosawa has an eye for judging the amount of glaze applied to a dial’s surface. It is added in increments of 0.01mm to maintain a very precise standard of thickness. By combining techniques inherited from his predecessors, he expertly adjusts the ratios of substances in the glaze — carefully monitoring temperature and humidity — before baking the enamel dials and hand-finishing them with painstaking care. Inspired by the original Laurel, this special model features a striking red Roman numeral “XII” at 12 o’clock, infusing the essence of Seiko’s origins into the heart of its design.

Urushi Lacquer Craftsmanship practiced in perpetuity

Urushi lacquer is a centuries-old decorative art that has typically adorned tableware and furniture. Urushi lacquer is the result of a rigorous, multi-step process that involves applying lacquer liquid made from the sap of the lacquer tree, drying it, and then polishing it repeatedly. Japanese lacquerware, known as “japan” in Europe at the time, was even collected by Queen Marie Antoinette of France in the 18th century. Seiko selected the Kanazawa-style urushi lacquer technique to create a distinctive, coppery brown dial for this watch. The unique hue is inspired by the streetscape of Ishikawa Prefecture’s city of Kanazawa, which features many examples of traditional architecture. The dial’s production is supervised by master urushi lacquer artist Isshu Tamura, who oversees expert craftsmen who painstakingly coat and polish the dial dozens of times to achieve the characteristic sheen and depth of color. Wearing this watch and knowing how it was produced is to feel the presence of Japanese craftsmanship wherever you go.

Arita Porcelain A tribute that stands the test of time

SPB397 $1,850

Arita porcelain, known for its strength, luster, and beauty, is made from crushed natural porcelain stone of exceptional quality. The first porcelain stone discovered in Japan came from the Izumiyama Quarry in Arita, Japan, in the early 17th century. Making Arita porcelain is a complex, time-consuming process that requires careful attention to detail at every stage. Furthermore, it is extremely difficult to produce Arita-yaki watch dials. With the guidance of master craftsman Hiroyuki Hashiguchi, Seiko has achieved new levels of durability and beauty by using a reinforced material that’s four times stronger than conventional materials. The porcelain is cast with high- precision molds and baked at 1,300°C, to lock in color, texture, and depth that will stand the test of time. The porcelain dial’s ivory hue pays homage to the natural color of the stone at Izumiyama Quarry, while also embodying the deep historical significance of the area. Three-dimensional sculpting unique to porcelain is used on the dial’s power reserve indicator and calendar, creating a masterfully rendered tribute to Seiko’s mechanical watchmaking expertise and Arita porcelain’s supreme artistry.

Shippo Enamel Inspiration from the deep blue sea

Shippo enamel, also known as cloisonné , is a centuries-old technique for applying enamel to metal. Translated literally as “seven treasures,” Shippo is known for its beautiful gloss and vivid colors. This limited-edition model features a deep blue Shippo enamel dial using Owari-style Shippo developed by the son of a samurai from the Owari domain who studied cloisonné products brought to Japan by a Dutch ship in the mid-19th century. Master craftsman Wataru Totani and his team manually apply glaze to the dial’s metal surface, which is then fired at a scorching 800°C. This process is repeated several times, and then the dial is polished to perfection. The finished product is simply breathtaking, reflecting the waves, the blue shades, and the transparency of the deep sea. Eco-friendly production also sets this Shippo enamel dial apart, with lead-free glaze used to protect the environment despite making the production process more challenging. Exquisite craftsmanship and a compelling story make this timepiece truly timeless.

SPB399 $2,050

The Presage collection involves much craftsmanship performed by hand. Seiko’s watchmaking technology, combined with meticulously made, elegant dials elevate each watch to the realm of wearable art, a masterpiece in its own right. When you wear a Craftsmanship Series watch, you’re not just wearing a timepiece – you’re wearing a celebration of centuries-old traditions of Japanese craftsmanship and the skill and dedication of today’s master craftsmen who perpetuate their artistic legacy by bringing the watches to life.
