25 TH ANNUAL DUNN’S RUN CELEBRATING THE LEGACY OF ITS FOUNDER, JIMDUNN his year marked the 25th Anniversary of Dunn’s Run, a fun-filled event held every year on the first Sunday of October along the ocean on A1A in Deerfield Beach benefitting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County. This year, it was dedicated to “Run for Jim”, honoring its late founder, Jim Dunn of J.R. Dunn Jewelers, who founded the run 25 years ago to give back to our local community. Since its founding, Dunn’s Run has raised an impressive $3.5 million for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County. “It’s an emotional year for us as a family because Dad was looking forward to this moment for years and 25 is a big mile- stone,“ said his son, Sean Dunn. “This event has meant a lot to the community and the 25th anniversary is extremely significant because of the legacy that Dad was proud to build. He was always competitive and was aiming to make this the biggest one yet,” he continued. Jim first founded Dunn’s Run in 1996 when South Florida busi- nessman and philanthropist, Jim Moran, motivated him to visit the Boys & Girls Club in Hollywood, Florida. After visiting the club, Jim was so inspired and found it was a huge opportunity to help the youth in our community, and so Dunn’s Run was founded to do just that. It wasn’t long before Dunn’s Run had grown into a huge success. Over the years, it grew into what is now one of the largest races in the tri-county area. Dunn’s Run even attracted many famous figures including Jeb Bush, American politician, and Allen West, former Congressman who came all the way from Washington D.C. to run through the streets of Deerfield Beach with the American flag. “Jim put his heart and soul into this cause. His father died when he was just eight years old, and he got a lesson in charity from his mom who was a visiting nurse. She always found time and some money to gather up turkeys and bring them to disadvan- taged families during holidays. Jim wanted the children otherwise without means to have a safe place to give them a better chance at a good life. We knew we had to make this race the biggest yet in Jim’s honor. And so, we did,” said Ann Marie Dunn. T
