For the first time, the Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II in Oystersteel is presented with the Cerachrom bezel insert in grey and black ceramic introduced to the range in 2023. Its green 24-hour hand displays much more than just an alternative time zone. It points to another location that resonates with the wearer – a reminder of the emotions that accompany each traveller.
Dials that are ombré, coloured blue-green, or in pearlized white mother-of-pearl. Faceted, deconstructed Roman numerals and faceted hour markers. A bezel set with trapeze-cut diamonds. The new versions of the Oyster Perpetual Day-Date express the brand’s enduring desire for rare and wide-ranging expertise to be found in even the smallest details. OYSTER PERPETUAL SKY-DWELLER The symphony of reflections Sophisticated, technical and distinguished, the Oyster Perpetual Sky-Dweller in 18 k Everose or yellow gold is now available with a Jubilee bracelet. Designed to enable tireless travellers to rapidly find their bearings, the Sky-Dweller reaffirms its ele- gance and is a delight to the senses. The first Rolex deep-sea divers’ watch in 18 k yellow gold, the new Oyster Perpetual Rolex Deepsea is decked in blue on its dial, its bezel insert, and its compression ring — part of the Ringlock system. Made from blue ceramic — a technical innovation that is the result of a pioneering manufacturing process — this Cerachrom ring is decorated with a circular satin finish. Precious and technical. Majestic and innovative. A bright watch for the dark abyss. This new version of the Rolex Deepsea is engineered to shine into the ocean depths.

Adding colorful gemstones to your collection is easier than you think. The wrist is always a good place to start: mix gold bangles with a few bold, colorful gemstone bracelets for a playful yet sophisticated stack. For your neck, try layering delicate chains with different gemstone pendants, combining green, pink, purple, or even blue hues that add a refreshing touch to your outfit. The beauty of incorporating colorful gemstones is their versatility. Whether you’re dressing up for a special occasion or keeping it casual, these pieces can effortlessly enhance your wardrobe. For example, a simple white blouse can easily transform from bland to bold with several strategically placed pieces. Stack a few bracelets in varying shades of blue and green, or mix in a bold, multi-colored gemstone ring to draw attention to your hands.

CROSSOVER TRIO COLLECTION David Yurman
B
Born from a collaboration between David Yurman and his wife, Sybil, the namesake brand’s Crossover collection is a striking example of creative synergy, effectively blending their distinct perspectives into a cohesive design narrative. “Design is our love language,” said Sybil, “and Crossover is the ultimate love letter. It’s a playful expression of our connection.” At the heart of the Crossover collection is the interplay of intertwined strands of smooth and signature cabled cords. Further, its innovative use of mixed metals — combining gold and silver — has become a signature element of David Yurman’s work, first introduced in this collection and carried forward in each new iteration.
The latest interpretation of the Crossover collection, Trio, adds a whole new dimension to the design with the integration of perfect triangles. The Yurmans’ son, Evan, introduced these pyramidal elements, drawing inspiration from architecture while simultaneously adding a generational touch. These perfect triangles not only seamlessly integrate into the weaving of smooth and cabled strands, but also represent the continuation of the family’s creative legacy and unity that binds them.
DESIGN IS OUR LOVE LANGUAGE, AND CROSSOVER IS THE ULTIMATE LOVE LETTER. IT’S A PLAYFUL EXPRESSION OF OUR CONNECTION.
26 FREDRIC H. RUBEL MAGAZINE
Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the Crossover collection, Trio, drives an even deeper narrative of collaboration and connection. A project where the family members designed alongside one another, the result is a collection that not only showcases the passion and craftsmanship that David Yurman has become known for, but also serves as a symbol of the family’s enduring ties.
From bangles to huggies and hoops, rings, necklaces, and beyond, the collection includes an array of jewels, often featuring the added brilliance of hand-set pavé diamonds.

There’s a fine line between too much noise and too little as you fall asleep. It’s hard to block out loud noises, but too little noise and your brain latches on to every distraction. You need the right kind of aural stimulation to put you in productive sleep mode. The question becomes, white noise or brown noise? Studies have shown that listening to specific frequencies can improve sleep quality and reduce the time it takes to fall asleep. Playing gentle and relaxing sounds can help cover abrupt noises that would otherwise wake you.
White noise is a combination of all audio frequencies that humans can hear, which blend into a high-pitched, staticky sound. You’ve heard it in sounds like TV or radio static, the whir of a fan or vacuum, or a noisy air conditioner. Brown noise features low-frequency sounds and bypasses the high-frequency sounds. The
Diamonds Brilliance DISCOVER HOW THE NATURAL DIAMOND INDUSTRY HELPED TRANSFORM THE NOW THRIVING SOUTHERN AFRICAN COUNTRY. By Shelley Brown of Botswana
Starry night sky over the Okavango Delta in Botswana.
T
Transformation is a word often associated with the formation of natural diamonds. Over the course of billions of years, carbon atoms slowly formed into brilliant gems deep within the earth. For Botswana, diamonds and transformation have another poignant connection: the ability of the natural diamond trade to transform the fortunes of a country. The History of Diamonds in Botswana Botswana, a landlocked country in Southern Africa, is both the birthplace of modern humans over 200,000 years ago and brilliant diamonds, formed billions of years before that. The discovery of the first significant deposit of diamonds in Botswana happened in 1967, just one year after the country gained independence from Britain. At the time, it was the third poorest country in the world, with minimal infrastructure. The country’s founding president, Sir Seretse Khama, made it his mission to build a government with an ambitious economic development program centered around the country’s resources.
Natural diamonds quickly became the cornerstone of Botswana’s economic development. All diamond mining in Botswana operates under a licensing agreement with the government in which 80 percent of diamond-related revenues are put back into the country’s economy. Today, Botswana is now the world’s number one diamond-producing country by value. The diamond industry accounts for 30 percent of the country’s GDP and 80 percent of its exports. The majority of the country’s diamond mines are managed by Debswana Diamond Company, a joint venture between the Botswana government and the global mining giant De Beers. Botswana mines have consistently recovered high-quality gems coveted worldwide. In 2013, the formation of Okavango Diamond Company (ODC) marked another pivotal moment in history. ODC is wholly owned by the Botswana government. As Botswana’s first state-owned diamond trading company, it has empowered the nation to responsibly manage its most prized natural resource, diversifying the market and bolstering its now thriving economy.
42 FREDRIC H. RUBEL MAGAZINE
Sustainability Initiatives such as community development projects and environmental conservation efforts underscore Botswana’s commitment to responsible diamond mining. Upon the closure of mining operations, extensive efforts are undertaken to restore the land to its natural state, ensuring minimal long-term environmental impact. Additionally, Botswana has implemented stringent regulations to safeguard water resources and wildlife habitats in and around mining areas. To ensure the integrity and ethical provenance of its diamonds, ODC subjects its diamonds to rigorous certification processes from reputable third-party organizations, such as the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and Rapaport. ODC recently introduced the Green Star Source Programme, enabling the traceability of polished diamonds back to Botswana. Innovation is integral to ODC’s sustainability journey, and the organization continually invests in research and development to enhance its practices. ODC is constructing a state-of-the-art facility with a rooftop and carport potovoltaic (PV) system at its new headquarters. This solar power generation infrastructure will significantly reduce the environmental impact. Botswana’s journey from a landlocked nation with a tumultuous history to a beacon of economic success is intertwined with its diamond legacy. Through prudent management and a deep appreciation for its natural resources, Botswana has leveraged its diamond wealth to lift its people out of poverty and secure a brilliant future. A natural diamond from Botswana is a symbol of transformation, progress, and human potential — sourced from where it all began.
The Okavango Blue, a 20.46-carat fancy deep blue diamond discovered in the Orapa Mine in 2018.
Economic Impact Diamonds account for a staggering 80 percent of Botswana’s export revenue, fueling the nation’s growth and prosperity and lifting its populace out of poverty. This revenue stream has enabled Botswana to invest in critical infrastructure, as well as education and healthcare. Much of Botswana’s 2.3-million-person population benefits from free education for children and universal healthcare. The diamond industry also provides employment to thousands, giving Botswana the highest per capita GDP of any continental African nation. The Heritage of the Botswana Diamonds A diamond from Botswana offers an origin story consumers can believe in. By centralizing operations, the government ensures both transparency and maximum returns from its diamond trade, which are then reinvested in infrastructure and government programs.
While a full range of diamonds come from Botswana, one treasure in particular captured international attention. The famed Okavango Blue, mined as a 41.11-carat rough that yielded a 20.46 carat fancy deep blue diamond, was discovered at the Orapa Mine in 2018. Owned by ODC, it is the largest and rarest blue diamond ever found in the country.

DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT
CELEBRATING AN ASHOKA MILESTONE 25 YEARS, 62 FACETS, ONE LEGENDARY DIAMOND
S Since its founding, Kwiat has been the source for uncommonly beautiful diamonds, particularly known for the fancy shapes it offers. One of the most iconic is ASHOKA, available in the United States exclusively from Kwiat. This year marks the 25th anniversary of this extraordinary diamond. ASHOKA has a graceful, elongated shape, rounded corners, and brilliant faceting. The distinctive diamond has an equally compelling backstory. The first-ever Ashoka, a breathtaking 41.37-carat D flawless diamond, was said to possess the power to “remove sorrow and bring joy.” It was fashioned by an unknown Indian diamond cutter from a rough stone found centuries ago in the Golconda mines of India, and named for an emperor originally known as “Ashoka the Fierce.” Although he ruthlessly ruled the subcontinent from 268-232 BCE, Ashoka later had a spiritual awakening and became revered for his compassion and religious tolerance. His benevolent principles were etched on pillars that remain throughout India to this day. As for the original ASHOKA diamond, it passed from collector to connoisseur for more than 40 years, until it was bought by an anonymous bidder at a Sotheby’s auction in 1988.
ASHOKA® IS A REGISTERED TRADEMARK. THIS CUT IS AVAILABLE IN THE U.S. EXCLUSIVELY FROM KWIAT.

Inspired by the original Ashoka, present-day ASHOKA diamonds are stunningly beautiful and very rare. Each begins with an ethically mined and conflict-free rough stone that’s larger and longer than most—in fact, fewer than 10% of rough diamonds measure up to the exacting standards. William Goldberg, one of the world’s most well- known diamantaires, re-created the ASHOKA with his team and gained the patent in 1999.
It can take as long as six months to fashion a unique pattern of 62 facets, creating a dazzling prismatic effect. Because the ASHOKA is cut to optimize brilliance, it appears 30% to 50% larger than emerald-cut diamonds of the same carat weight. The facets are so specific that every finished stone has the exact same proportions. And the cut is so extraordinary, it’s patented. Discover ASHOKA diamonds at Fredric H. Rubel Jewelers, captivating in a collection of engagement rings, line bracelets, pendants, and more.

Steve Martin
OUR INTERVIEW WITH THE INCOMPARABLE
46 FREDRIC H. RUBEL MAGAZINE
S
That is, until STEVE! (martin) a documentary in 2 pieces , a documentary by director Morgan Neville, playing on Apple TV+. At 78, after more than 50 years in the spotlight, Martin continues to surprise his fans. Here are a few insights he has shared from the documentary and along the way.
Since Steve Martin burst onto the comedy scene in the ’70s, he’s been a man of mystery. Despite leading sold-out stadiums in his “Excuuuuse Me routine,” headlining a roster of quotable movies, penning best-selling books, leading a banjo revival, and his bromance with Martin Short, Martin has kept his cards close to the vest, like the accomplished magician he is.
WHAT DREW YOU TO A LIFE ON STAGE? As a kid, I had a little magician act, and I’d look at the stage and think, wow, it’s like heaven up there. There is always a little anxiety when you’re doing something you hope works out.
HOW DID YOU BUILD THE WILD AND CRAZY GUY CHARACTER? I noticed the indicators — the things comedians do to indicate that the joke is over. Whether it is funny or not, the audience has made a pact; that’s when we laugh. But that’s not real laughter. So I thought, “What if I created tension and never released it?”
FUN FACT: From age 10 to 18 Steve Martin worked at Disneyland
HOW DID YOUR FAMILY REACT TO YOUR SUCCESS? After the premiere of The Jerk (1979), my father said, “He’s no Charlie Chaplin.” Later, my mother said people at the store were excited that she was my mother, and I asked her how they knew. She told them!
WHY DID YOU WALK AWAY FROM STANDUP? It’s a simple story. I was exhausted by the travel. With a movie, there’s a sense of permanence; you could get the thing exactly right. And my early act was very conceptual; I was making fun of comedy. Once the audience understood the idea, it was a dead end.
WHY ARE YOU OPENING UP NOW? I see it as an antidote to the sort of anodyne interviews, generic things I’ve talked about a million times. What an odd life I’ve had. My whole life is backward. How did I go from riddled with anxiety in my 30s to [age] 78 and really happy? How did this happen?”

bride what kind of are you ?
THREE WAYS TO STYLE “I DO.”
Planning a wedding is daunting, especially now that brides-to-be have infinite online inspiration at their fingertips. There are so many different types of weddings that it can be hard to know which approach is right. Will you start your happily-ever-after at a small backyard affair? A black-tie evening in a museum rotunda? Maybe a literary ceremony at a historic library? Before diving into tablescapes, rings, favors, and all the other fun details, it’s helpful for a bride to pick a theme for her wedding day. Do you see yourself as a traditional, modern, or romantic bride? Having one style in mind while planning helps ensure that every element of your wedding works beautifully together on the big day.

traditional
We love the Precision Set New Air setting below, inspired by the elegance of the Eiffel Tower, featuring exquisite detail, including a hidden halo of diamond pavé for a touch of subtle brilliance. On the right is another great option: an oval-cut diamond is gracefully set at the center of a carefully hand-carved French-cut design by Harry Kotlar.
This beautiful Harry Kotlar 3.12 carat Kotlar Cushion solitaire diamond ring that continuously radiates charm and zest is very vibrant, it is set in platinum and accented with glistening diamonds arrayed on an artisan pavé scallop pattern.

The traditional bride embraces the exquisite beauty of wedding classics. Her gown will be minimalist and magnificent. She’ll want a subdued color scheme that’s mostly neutrals, a bespoke tuxedo for her groom, and a matching bowtie for her well-behaved golden retriever. Everything will be refined and as wedding-ey as a wedding can be.
The venue for a traditional wedding will be elegant, perhaps a manicured garden with long banquet tables under the stars or a hotel with a stately ballroom and impeccable service. Guests should expect to shed a tear at the beauty of the couple’s flawlessly choreographed first dance and will most likely take home a high-end monogrammed wedding favor.
A traditional bride’s jewelry will be as sophisticated and tasteful as she is. Look to streamlined solitaires with hidden halos, emerald cut diamonds with impeccable color and clarity, or family heirloom stones reset to honor a new generation’s love story. Don’t forget a wedding band that matches the engagement ring — perhaps a band that’s tapered to fit against the specific ring for a seamless stack. Nothing too flashy, and always classy. Whatever the traditional bride chooses for her jewels, her ring will be timeless — an instant future heirloom.

modern
Above, Harry Kotlar’s stunning Asscher-cut diamond surrounded by double rows of sparkling pavé diamonds and secured with elegant double- tip prongs, this piece exudes timeless sophistication. Just below is a stunning fancy yellow diamond by Kwiat.
Jewelry by Kwiat
On the top right, is a really unique ASHOKA east to west setting with pavé diamonds. Another elegant modern option on the bottom right is this emerald- cut center diamond set in platinum with emerald cut side stones set half way down the shank of the ring, crafted by Precision Set.
The modern bride is deeply in touch with her personal style and won’t hesitate to throw tradition out the window in favor of personalization. She might choose a colorful wedding dress or a sleek bridal jumpsuit, a cannoli cart instead of a cake, maybe even a dapper flower man slinging blooms as he bops down the aisle, instead of the typical teetering tot with a basket of petals.
A modern wedding is all about fun and freshness. The sky’s the limit for venue — sometimes literally, if the lovebirds are skydiving enthusiasts or hot air balloon lovers. Modern brides also love a location with an activity, like a fairground with a gorgeous carousel or a zoo where a penguin attends cocktail hour. Anything is possible for a modern bride’s jewelry. Her dream ring might have vibrant colored gems, especially with unusual stone
shapes and color combinations. She might also go for the cutting-edge technology of lab-grown diamonds, perhaps a gorgeous elongated marquise cut stone in an edgy east-west setting. Or she might decide to find a “man-gagement” ring to propose back to her partner — or even be the first to pop the question herself. One thing’s for sure, the modern bride will get exactly the ring she wants, regardless of anyone’s expectations.

romantic
Here are several really unique options, including the rose gold Kwiat Mine to Shine, and the emerald-cut diamond with split shank, yellow-gold Precision Set Oval-cut center stone with ovals down the sides. On this side of the page is a remarkable bespoke Harry Kotlar ring, featuring a yellow radiant diamond with pink diamond trillions on either side.

The romantic bride takes the sentiment inherent in all weddings to a whole new level. Romance lives in the details: the notes of a particular love song heralding the bride’s entrance, references to the couple’s milestones in the table decor, or personalized vows that will make even the most stoic groomsman sniffle. The gown will likely involve lace, beading, embroidery, or all three.
As for the décor and venue? Think Bridgerton meets Disney princess. Everything will be soft and lush, with cascading florals in pink or purple and plenty of candles. It will be held at an old manor house or a hotel that feels like a castle (or an actual castle, if budget allows). There will absolutely be a guestbook, and friends and family shouldn’t hesitate to leave their most heartfelt messages. At the end of the evening, the couple might depart in a classic car or a horse-drawn carriage.
Vintage and vintage-inspired rings will win the romantic bride’s heart. Look for delicate embellishments, like filigree, engraving, and milgrain, as well as designs that carry symbolic meaning, like the two- stone toi-et-moi style that represents two becoming one, or a classic three-stone ring for past, present, and future. This couple will love the idea of engraving a secret message for each other inside their rings — and if the groom is smart, he’ll pick up a wedding day jewelry surprise to delight his romantic bride on the big day.

The Brazilian Emerald Owl pendant is an art-deco-inspired owl pendant necklace. The owl is so majestic, wise, and mysterious — nighttime moons, stars and magic all come to mind. The meticulously placed baguette diamonds evoke the lively movement and textures of the wings. This spectacular piece includes a 5.58 carat emerald and 1.41 carats of diamonds.
With this special edition lagoon tourmaline sea turtle ring, Monica chose captivating green- blue hues that evoke calm and balance. Inspired by the serenity of the ocean, she focused on the sea turtle as a symbol of grace and perseverance. Sculpted in 18K yellow gold, this elegant ring is adorned with a cushion- cut tourmaline on its shell, accentuated by shimmering diamonds. It’s a reminder that true beauty is found in the slow, steady rhythm of nature.
This uniquely shaped black opal has a bold and unique silhouette. Monica imagined this stone as the body of a seahorse with an abstracted sculptural approach to the one-of- a-kind magical sea creature. This 18K gold pendant is set with an Australian black opal, weighing in at 16.42cts. White diamond accents an emerald eye and is presented on an 18” gold chain.
