To our loyal clients and friends, As the holiday season approaches, we are humbled by your support this year and eager to celebrate the good times ahead, continuing the Brown & Co. tradition of providing the highest quality service and indulgent selection of fine jewelry and timepieces in Atlanta. Brown & Company Jewelers was founded on the legacy of Frank Brown’s grandmother Marie Burns, who founded the Jewel Box in Spokane, Washington in 1923. Brown & Co. continued to build on the family business in 1975, when they opened the doors of their Historic Roswell store. An independent, family-owned and operated business, Brown & Co. holds its family roots dear. Frank Brown and his daughters, Sara Beth and Amy, now lead the store with locations in both Historic Roswell and the heart of Buckhead with the same passion and tenacity as the day the doors opened. With 2020 came a host of challenges, felt across the city, nation and world. Despite a trying season and year, our doors have remained open and team has remained enthusiastic and strong as ever. This issue of our Holiday Magazine is dedicated to the loyal clients, dear friends, and team members who have shown their support of our family business over the years. The loyalty and kindness shown to us has left us grateful beyond words. We are very excited to ring in a new season and a new year with our Atlanta family this holiday season. Our hope is that these pages spark joy, inspire imagination, and create excitement for all of the celebrations that the future holds. With a challenging year behind us, we are optimistic for a fantastic year ahead. It’s time to start playing dress up again, and we’re here for you whenever you’re ready to celebrate the next momentous occasion, big or small. With gratitude, The Brown Family

WHAT IT TAKES TO MAKE THE

WORLD’S MOST RELIABLE

SPORTS WATCHES

AHISTORYOFROLEX ADVENTURE WATCHES AND THE MATERIALS THAT MAKE THEM GREAT

Rolex is the original action watch and has long been associated with adventure. Rolex watches have survived the most extreme conditions, from the highest summits to the deepest recesses of the ocean. Climb Mount Everest? Check. Submerge into the depths of the Mariana Trench? Check. The world of Rolex is a world that calls for robust watches — even fictional worlds have touted the watch — the original James Bond timepiece was a Rolex. Since it was founded in 1905, the company has filed over 500 patents. It is credited with inventing the world’s first waterproof wristwatch and the world’s first self-winding mechanism, the perpetual rotor. First came the water resistance. The Oyster Perpetual collection, with hermetically sealed cases, was built on the success of the original Oyster model, patented by Rolex and launched in 1926. As the maker of the world’s first waterproof wristwatch, Rolex played a pioneering role in the development of the modern timepiece. In 1927, it was worn by British swimmer Mercedes Gleitze during her historic swim across the English Channel. The swim lasted over 10 hours, and the watch remained in perfect working order. In 1931, Rolex invented and patented the world’s first self-winding mechanism with a Perpetual rotor, which is today at the heart of every modern automatic watch. The first expedition to fly over Everest, in 1933, was equipped with Rolex Oysters, and 20 years later, Sir John Hunt’s expedition, in which Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay reached the summit of Mount Everest, was equipped with Oyster Perpetuals. In 1960, the experimental bathyscaphe, the Trieste, successfully descended into the Mariana Trench, the deepest known depression on the Earth’s surface. Emerging from 10,916 meters (37,800 feet), the bathyscaphe was in perfect working order — as was the Rolex Deep Sea Special experimental watch that had been attached to the outside during the historic dive.

HERE ARE SOME OF THE EXCLUSIVE MATERIALS THAT GO INTO A ROLEX WATCH: OYSTERSTEEL : This is 904L grade steel, a superalloy used in the aerospace and chemical industries, and that means it has the corrosion resistance and high polish of precious metals. It also has a high sheen, so it looks good for a long time. EVEROSE GOLD: To preserve the beauty of its pink gold watches, in 2005 Rolex created and patented a new alloy that it casts in its own foundry: Everose gold, which owes its unique color — a pink hue unlike any other — to its composition. PLATINUM: Rolex uses 950 platinum, an alloy consisting of 95 percent pure platinum generally combined with ruthenium. At Rolex, platinum is above all used for the Day-Date, the most prestigious watch in the Oyster collection. The practiced eye immediately recognizes a Day-Date or Daytona with an ice blue dial as a platinum model.

Day-Date 40 mm, in platinum.

ROLESOR: Rolesor is the story of the auspicious meeting of two materials on a single Rolex watch: the juxtaposition of gold and steel with their contrasting colors and radiance, in subtly balanced harmony. The name Rolesor was patented by Rolex in 1933, and has become one of the distinctive elements of the brand’s watches, a true Rolex signature. The bezel, winding crown, and center bracelet links are made of 18k yellow or Everose gold, and the middle case and the outer links of the bracelet are made of Oystersteel. CERACHROM: Developed and patented by Rolex, these components are made from particularly hard ceramics that are virtually impervious to scratches. Their colors are unaffected by ultraviolet rays. Thanks to its chemical composition, the high-tech ceramic cannot corrode. CHROMALIGHT: Rolex’s luminescent material, Chromalight is blue by night, bright white by day, providing high visibility in dark environments.

BRACELETS: Jubilee Bracelet: The supple five-piece links on dressy watches and some sport watches, such as the GMT-Master II. It was originally designed for the Datejust in 1945.

Oyster Bracelet: The larger, flat, three-piece links make for a simpler, sportier look.

President Bracelet: The President uses semi-circular three-piece links, originally created in 1956 for the Day- Date. It is always 18k yellow, white, or Everose gold or 950 platinum. Pearlmaster Bracelet: The refined five-piece links make the Pearlmaster Rolex’s most elegant bracelet, found only with a crownlock clasp. Oysterflex Bracelet: Made of a very soft, flexible elastomer with an internal cushion system that makes it extremely well fitting and comfortable. The bracelet is fitted over a metal blade made of a titanium and nickel alloy, achieving the strength of metal and the comfort of rubber.

ICONIC MODELS TIMELINE: 1945: The Datejust, the first self-winding wrist

chronometer to indicate the date in a window on the dial. 1953: The Submariner, the first diver’s watch waterproof to a depth of 100 meters (330 feet). Its rotatable bezel allows divers to read their immersion time. 1953: The Oyster Perpetual Explorer was launched in 1953 to celebrate the victorious ascent of Mount Everest. 1955: The GMT-Master, with its famous two-tone bezel. 1956: The Day-Date, with its now-iconic President bracelet. 1956: The Oyster Perpetual Milgauss was created to meet the demands of the scientific community. It remains capable of withstanding magnetic fields of up to 1,000 gauss. 1963 The Cosmograph Daytona quickly became the ultimate tool for endurance racing drivers.

P ATEK P HILIPPE THE MYST I QUE OF U Unlike the art market where aesthetics, taste, and provenance are the main value factors, a watch has something else to prove. In addition to qualifying as an object of beauty, it must be an impressive work of micro-mechanical engineering, adjusted for high precision, and built for longevity. In the watch world, Patek Philippe embodies that definition and then some. The company has adhered to a standard of excellence in mechanical watchmaking that has endured, even through the era of all-quartz production in the 1980s and ’90s when most heritage watch brands, in order to survive, catered to the mass market. Patek Philippe is family owned and, therefore, not subject to the marketing-driven, quick-profit schemes of shareholder boards. Above all, it is one of only a handful of watch brands in the world that can truly be defined as an investment, having proven continuously to be the most sought-after watch in the world on the secondary market.

The legendary Patek Philippe Ref. 1518 in stainless steel. One of only four ever made in this series in steel. This one sold at a Phillips auction for $11 million.

The highest price ever paid for a watch at auction was $31.1 million, for a one- of-a-kind Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime Ref. 6300A-010, made by Patek Philippe for the 2019 Only Watch charity auction for research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The previous record for a watch sold at auction was CHF 23,237,000 (US$24,753,200) for the Patek Philippe Henry Graves Supercomplication, a pocket watch with 24 complications made in 1933 and sold by Sotheby’s in 2014. Paul Newman’s Rolex Daytona takes third place in terms

of top dollar paid for a watch at auction, raking in $17.7 million at a 2017 Phillips auction, but after that, it’s another Patek Philippe, a rare Ref. 1518 perpetual calendar chronograph, which sold for $11 million. Aside from these blockbusters, Patek Philippe dominates the watch auction market every year, with sale after sale of sought-after references selling for seven- or eight-figure sums. What accounts for this special status? Part of it has to do with consistency. Patek Philippe has essentially been run by only two families over the last 179

years. Patek Philippe was founded in 1839 by Antoine Norbert de Patek, who was joined in 1845 by Jean Adrien Philippe. It was acquired by brothers Jean and Charles Henri Stern in 1932 and is still owned by the Stern family. The Sterns were top dial makers for Patek Philippe at the time and one of the few companies in the industry with the means to make such an acquisition. They wisely maintained the level of excellence established by the founders, focusing on luxury watches finished by hand in small series, a policy in effect to this day.

The double-signed “Asprey” Patek Philippe Ref. 2499 perpetual calendar chronograph, sold by Sotheby’s for $3,915,000.

The world’s most expensive watch, a one-of-a-kind Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime Ref. 6300A-010, which sold for $31 million in 2019 at the Only Watch charity auction.

The current president, Thierry Stern, maintains the company’s century-old policy of keeping meticulous archives, creating all movements in-house, and maintaining the standard of excellence and leading-edge innovation that has made the brand famous. Patek Philippe was the first watch company to create a perpetual calendar chronograph wristwatch, the Ref. 1518, introduced in 1941. It wasn’t until nearly 20 years later that another brand introduced one: Audemars Piguet in 1958, followed by IWC in 1985. The design of the 1518 was so pivotal, it set the

architecture for the brand, with its twin apertures at 12 o’clock, two chronograph registers at 3 and 9, and the circular date display with moonphase at 6 o’clock. Today’s Ref. 5270 in the current collection is the same basic design. It was so ahead of its time that it’s still relevant today. Sought-after modern models include almost any version of the sporty Nautilus, a watch originally introduced in 1976 and coveted for its distinctive design at the hands of famous watch designer Gerald Genta. Today, Nautiluses that would have retailed for approximately $3,500

when they were introduced in the 1970s regularly sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars. The current model Ref. 5740 Nautilus perpetual calendar, introduced two years ago at a retail price of about $90,000, is already selling on the secondary market for nearly triple that amount. Although owning a Patek Philippe has proven to be a great investment, there is more to owning one than its commercial value. Wearing a watch of that level of prestige and excellence is, in itself, a reward, and that can include even “ordinary” pieces from the current collection.

The celebrated watch has a new movement this year, the Rolex-made caliber 3285, with a Chronergy escapement that endows it with an accuracy rating of +2/-2 seconds per day. This is also the first GMT-Master II to be fitted with the Jubilee bracelet, which is usually reserved for more classic Rolexes, and gives this sports watch a dressier vibe. The watch displays two time zones simultaneously: either the local time and the reference time, or the local time and that of an alternative time zone. The date, at 3 o’clock on the dial, is synchronized with the local time.

TAG HEUER TÊTE DE VIPÈRE CHRONOGRAPH TOURBILLON CHRONOMETER The first TAG Heuer watch to receive the Besançon Obervatory Tête de Vipère (Viper’s Head) stamp of approval. Besançon Observatory was one of the strictest of the two or three observatories in Europe that assessed and graded Swiss watch movements for accuracy back in the days when timepieces were used in marine navigation. This type of testing was largely abandoned in the 1970s when quartz, a different technology, became popular, but the lab was relaunched in 2006. Since then, only 500 mechanical watches have passed the observatory’s 16-day accuracy test in five positions at three different temperatures. “The Viper’s head stamp,” says TAG Heuer, “is more than simply proof of quality and accuracy. It is confirmation of technical expertise that borders on perfection.”

TUDOR BLACK BAY BRONZE The Tudor Bronze is one of the most celebrated contemporary models introduced by the brand. The bronze case is notable for the way it develops a unique patina over the years, and it is ideal for diving watches since the bronze is particularly resistant to the corrosive effects of salt water. The watch contains the Tudor- made, COSC-certified caliber MT5601 movement, with a silicon balance spring and a 70-hour power reserve. The dial has the brand’s signature snowflake hour hand, first introduced by Tudor in 1969. It is water resistant to 200 meters.

TUDOR BLACK BAY GMT The Tudor Black Bay GMT, with its signature blue and red GMT bezel, has become a cult favorite. It contains an in-house movement, the MT5652, with local jumping GMT functionality. When Tudor resurfaced on the U.S. market in 2013 after a decade-long hiatus, it emerged with the Heritage collection, including the ultra-cool Heritage Black Bay. It is vintage, but rather than imitating one watch, the models in the collection take elements from various earlier watches: snowflake hands, aluminum bezels, rivet-style bracelets, and vintage crystals with raised edges. Now, they are increasingly equipped with in-house movements and value-priced, considering the level of quality.

stories

Callie’s three stone necklace comprised of diamonds passed down from her grandmothers, both maternal and paternal.

PASSING ON HOPE SHARI G INSPIRATION THROUG CUSTOM DESIGN C

A beloved necklace and family heirloom that took the original form of a watch gifted from Callie’s grandfather to her grandmother when they were 14. After Callie’s grandparents passed, Brown & Co. transformed the piece into a necklace with custom engraved ‘love nanny and papa’ in handwriting pulled from her grandparents’ old letters. Callie gifted the sentimental piece to her mother.

allie Dauler is an open book, and she’ll be the first to tell you so. The Atlanta- based lifestyle influencer and her husband, Jeff, share everything about their lives with their Upside podcast community. Now, as the couple welcomes their first child, Callie is ready to pass her hope on to others with the help of Brown & Co. Jewelers and their custom design team. The relationship between Callie and Brown & Co. began with a simple request: to bring life back into family jewelry that Callie had tucked away. “Sara Beth made me feel so at ease about handing over our family jewelry, and she wound up being able to verify what was real and what wasn’t,” Callie recalled. In the end, Brown & Co. designed Callie’s favorite piece of jewelry, a simple three-stone necklace. “It’s a necklace that I quite literally have not taken off since the day that I picked it up,” Callie exclaimed. The simplicity of the necklace fits Callie’s personality; she admits that she’s not a big jewelry person. However,

Brown & Co. has helped change her outlook on the stigma surrounding jewelry, and the fact that it is possible to find and own pieces that are both affordable and meant for everyday wear. “I’m into basics, so I wear the same earrings every day, my wedding and engagement ring, and that’s pretty much it,” Callie said. “I wouldn’t say that I’m a jewelry person, and I don’t swap out my jewelry, but I do have my staples, and this necklace is a staple for me that I will hopefully be able to pass on to my kid.” Not only is Callie looking forward to passing jewelry on to their newborn baby girl, she is also paying it forward with her HOPE design. In 2019, Callie and Jeff navigated the heartbreak of a miscarriage. In the middle of it all, the two remained hopeful and grateful for their social media community as well as close friends and family. In fact, it was one of Callie’s close friends who inspired her new design when she gave Callie a simple pair of earrings with the word “Hope” on them.

After getting pregnant, Callie kept the tradition alive and passed on her hope. She gifted those same earrings to another friend, confident they would bring her peace and hope during a difficult journey. Callie also sent a picture of the earrings to Sara Beth, asking whether she should create the design and share it with others. “I think, in different ways, we all need hope,” Callie said. “Sara Beth said, ‘Absolutely! Let’s do it! This is awesome,’ and she created the HOPE earrings based on the earrings my friend had given me.” Callie wants the HOPE design to not only help women struggling to get pregnant, but anyone going through a tough time. She recognizes that everyone needs hope at some point in life, and she’s excited that Brown & Co. is on board with passing this hope to others.

The Roman Barocco collection has a lush woven look. It is made using a 3D mesh technique that creates the look of delicate gold threads hardened with alloys to make them more robust than they look. Anyone who remembers the legendary Appassionata collection that was originally introduced in the 1990s, with its familiar woven gold motif will be delighted to see a modified version of this design return in the new Veneto collection. There are flexible or hard woven pieces, including bangles and rings. The look is lush and very textured. This is a perfect time for lucky charms, and Roberto’s new Medallion collection is a modern interpretation of the spirit of talisman jewelry. Medallions are a great way to express your personality, with motifs drawn from the Roberto Coin DNA, including four-petal flowers, zodiacs, or initials. Each medallion hangs on a 20-inch chain that can be clasped as

a lariat or worn at different lengths. Each has a bale that opens, so you can adjust its location: clip it on a Y neck or hang it as a pendant. There are also functional lockets in the collection. As ever, many of Roberto’s collections can be punctuated with diamond, ruby, emerald or sapphire highlights, in addition to the unique look of malachite, mother-of-pearl or black jade. The pieces in each of Roberto Coin’s collection are meant to be mixed and matched to create your own signature stack. Pair an 18k yellow gold bangle with diamond-studded flowers from the Venetian Princess collection, for example, with a contrasting 18k rose or white polished gold one from the Pois Moi Luna collection, with its contrasting surface of circular indentations accented with diamonds. Bellissimo!

PERFECT FOR STACKING Layering and stacking is one of today’s hottest trends, and Roberto Coin has many great options that span multiple collections and styles. A variety of slim stacking bracelets allow you to create a signature look, and mixing chunkier bangles delivers powerful style statements. Mix and match tones of white, yellow and rose gold to create variety and pick a few set with gemstones for extra oomph. Roberto Coin creates multiple shapes and textures to give you compelling options to mix and match.

TOGETHER FOR A CURE TOM & CHRIS GLAVINE, SHARING A PASSION FOR JEWELRY AND THE COMMUNITY

Tom and Chris Glavine are staples in the Atlanta community. Not only are they known for their impeccable charity work with CURE Childhood Cancer, but they’re also celebrated for their commitment to partnering with those that share similar interests, including Brown & Co. Jewelers. As one of Atlanta’s premier jewelry destinations, Brown & Co. has been the Glavines’ go-to for everything including jewelry, watches, and community support. What started as a simple shopping excursion soon blossomed into the partnership it is today. “It started with me making the mistake of walking in and looking for jewelry for my wife,” Tom joked. “But then I was pleased with the service and the knowledge of the product and the whole nine yards.” Tom said his first experience in the store was low key, yet he was impressed with everyone’s expertise and professionalism while he browsed. Slowly, the Glavines learned more and more about Brown & Co., their missions, and who they are at the business’s core. Now, over 15 years have passed, and Tom and Chris can’t imagine trusting anyone else with their jewelry and charity passions. “They’re a perfect fit for us from a personal standpoint and now, from a charitable standpoint,” Tom said. In 2004, Tom and Chris joined in the fight against childhood cancer. After witnessing the heartbreak cancer brings upon families from their own personal connections, they partnered with CURE. But Chris recognized there was still a need, especially among the community of mothers caring for their sick children, and decided she wanted to do more. Together with the Quiet Heroes host committee, she put together an event to honor these deserving mothers. On September 10, 2005, “A Tribute to Our Quiet Heroes” hosted its first annual event. As community influencers, the Glavines connect businesses around the city with CURE and their fight against childhood cancer, and Brown & Co. has been present from the start. Over the years, the partnership has deepened, and neither Tom nor Chris could have imagined that their contribution would raise more than $5 million and help more than 2,000 mothers and children. Every year, Brown & Co. donates to the Quiet Heroes cause, including the silent auction, to help raise money and support for families and children battling the disease. “You don’t even have to ask them,” Chris said. “We know where their hearts are. It’s not about looking good. They want to be part of the community.” Building this trust with the Glavines and CURE is a testament to how Brown & Co. does business. In fact, the Glavines’ favorite part about their local jeweler is never feeling pressure to buy and knowing they have the freedom to browse. This kind of shopping experience, along with the shared passion for CURE, is what has created lifelong customers out of Tom and Chris Glavine.

EVERY WOMAN DESERVES A PAIR OR TWO

insider info

ou’re celebrating a momentous occasion and decide that a diamond is the perfect way to symbolize that moment. It may be the first diamond you’ve ever purchased, or maybe you are upgrading to a larger diamond. You should be beaming with excitement, glowing with a smile so wide it hurts, but for some reason, you are anxious. This is an important and costly purchase. What do you know about buying a diamond? Who do you trust? What do you believe? You’ve decided to swim in the sea of information on the internet but now, armed with more information, you are either more confident or even more confused. Now what? I’m here to tell you to stop, and just breathe. All will be right if you take this simple piece of advice: Trust your own eye and heart. We’d like to unlock some of the mystery of the diamond, debunk some myths, and help you make an informed decision. Most people have heard of the 4 Cs — color, cut, clarity and carat — but what do these words really mean, and what’s the most important? The first thing you should know is that these things are, contrary to popular belief, measures of rarity not beauty. Just because something is deemed rare doesn’t make it pleasing to everyone’s eye. Color, for example, is the absence or presence of body color in a diamond. The scale that most people are familiar with starts with D (for diamond) and goes down the alphabet, D. E. F. G., etc. all the way to Z. There’s an assumption that D is the best. No, D is the rarest. It’s also a range of shades. Have you ever tried to buy white paint only to realize how many shades of white there are? Studies have shown that when looking at diamonds without being prejudiced by the grading of a diamond, many people prefer a diamond with a little body color or a little warmth. Many beautiful and lively diamonds are actually in the H to K range. How a stone is made or cut is truly what unleashes the fire and brilliance in the diamond. When a cutter is given a diamond to facet, he’s faced with a decision to either save weight or sacrifice weight to achieve ideal or near ideal proportions. When a diamond loses precious carat weight for the sake of ideal proportions, the price of the diamond is usually higher for the finished product, even though it eventually ends up weighing less. Clarity denotes what is going on inside and on the surface of the diamond. I prefer to simplify clarity in this way: What does it look like with the naked eye? First, study it hard without any aid of magnification. Do you see any distinguishing characteristics that distract from the brilliance of the diamond? That’s the most important thing. After all, how often will you or your friends be magnifying your diamond? Then study it with magnification. Sometimes you may see little white lines, sometimes clouds. You might see little black spots. The grading scale of clarity refers more to how noticeable these characteristics are than to how many are inside the diamond. What size is best? That’s strictly a personal decision. For some, a larger stone is the dream, and they might be willing to give up a little on color or clarity to stay on budget. To others, the color, cut, and clarity are the deciding factors. DIAMONDS THE DEFINITIVE BUYERS GUIDE Y

Beyond the 4 Cs, many other questions have come across our sales counters. A popular topic is shape. What shape is the most expensive? The answer isn’t so simple. In larger diamonds, all things being equal, the round brilliant is still king. It’s timeless. It’s the most brilliant and in highest demand. As fancy shapes such as princess, emerald, marquise, and pear float in and out of demand, prices, though stable, may fluctuate based on their popularity. There’s another C that isn’t mentioned very often — confidence — confidence in yourself and confidence in your ability to recognize what you find beautiful. Ultimately, no one can tell you what you like or what your preferences should be. Just ask yourself these things: Do I love it? Does the diamond do what the diamond is supposed to do? Will I ultimately be thrilled with my decision? If so, then relax — you’ve got this.

GENERATIONS

EXPERTISE

OF

Henri Daussi Loots was born in 1932 in Antwerp, Belgium. Antwerp, located in the heart of Europe has been at the center of the world’s diamond trade for over five centuries and continues to be known today as the diamond capital of the world. Henri was taught the art of diamond cutting by his father Jozef Loots who inherited the skills from his father. He went on to become a respected diamond cutter and eventually build an international reputation. Specializing in large and valuable diamonds, Henri was commissioned to study and cut diamonds for many of the world’s most acclaimed jewelry brands. After years of work, Henri designed a special and unique diamond polishing wheel, called a scaif, which allowed him to cut facets into a diamond, something considered impossible before this. Using this new groundbreaking tool, he cut the first perfect heart-shaped diamond. Since diamonds are a symbol of love and commitment, the heart-shaped diamond became an international sensation. Henri went on to create many more incredible diamond shapes and sculptures, many of which are on display in museums around the world. Henri passed on his knowledge, experience, and fascination for diamonds to his sons Jef and Dirk Loots, both of whom continued to grow their father’s legacy. Today Henri Daussi is lead by Bart, Jeff, and Kristiaan Loots, grandsons of Henri. “Our family tradition of cutting beautiful diamonds and creating incredible jewels THE HENRI DAUSSI LEGACY

will forever keep true to its heritage,” says Jeff. “We are humbled and honored that our Daussi creations go on to be enjoyed and cherished by generations of families to come. We respect this opportunity and will never compromise on our commitment to quality, responsibility, and integrity.”

MOMENTOUS MILESTONES

There is no gift that can capture moments, milestones, and meanings in our lives quite like jewelry. For couples, the journey that began with the exchange of iconic wedding rings can be retold and celebrated with each passing year together in personal gifts of fine jewelry.

The sky’s the limit when it comes to anniversary jewelry. It can be diamonds every year, your favorite color or birthstone, lustrous pearls, or classic gold and silver pieces. The choices are as unique as the couples making them. But there are precious gems and metals

that have come to signify special anniversaries and might be a part of your perfect gift.

Indulge in a luxurious selection of sapphires, rubies, emeralds and more starting at $1,200.

Sapphire is suggested for anniversaries numbers 5 and 45. This gemstone has historically signified truth and promises, perfect sentiments for any marriage. Next to diamond, sapphire is a favorite wedding gem, inspiring sincerity, peace and joy. The most popular anniversary gift in sapphire has been stackable bands. And the great thing about sapphire is that it comes in several colors, with blue, yellow and pink to choose from. Other iconic designs include bold sapphire rings and three-stone styles with diamonds, as well as different earring treatments and bracelets, sometimes in ombré or mixed color patterns. sapphire ruby Ruby symbolizes the power of attraction and long-lasting love. It is the top suggestion for anniversaries number 15 and 40. This fiery red gem — the color of the heart — has always been associated with deep love. Stackable bands set with ruby and white diamonds are popular, as are bold cocktail rings and three- stone styles. It doesn’t have to be a ring, though. Drop earrings, ear climbers, and line bracelets set with ruby also make a statement of love.

Diamond, which signifies forever, is the gemstone suggested for anniversaries number 10 and 60. The name is derived from the Latin diamas meaning unconquerable, and this gemstone has maintained its position throughout history as a perfect icon for everlasting love and marriage. Diamond is believed to inspire loyalty, romance, and a joyful life. Chosen by most brides to seal the deal, diamond offers many ways to celebrate each year together — from studs and solitaire pendants to stackable bands and bracelets. Especially popular are two-stone diamond ring designs and three- stone styles with white center and gemstone sides. The great thing about diamond is there are many colors to choose from, with yellow, champagne, and brown being especially popular right now. diamond emerald Emerald, which is suggested for anniversaries number 20 and 35, is upheld as a symbol of devotion, contentment, and undying love. The gem of enlightenment, emerald has a calming effect that clarifies insights. Emerald eternity bands have been the most popular anniversary gift, often set with fancy shapes and mixed with white diamonds. Other iconic designs include bold emerald rings and three- stone styles, as well as different earring treatments.

pearls Pearls, which are suggested for anniversaries number 3 and 30, have a long history as a wedding gem, dating back to the early Hindus when Krishna gave his daughter a pearl on her wedding day. A symbol of romance and devotion, pearl’s love attraction was thought to be so strong that Cleopatra dissolved a pearl in wine and swallowed it to seduce Mark Antony. Pearls offer lots of options, from classic Akoya to bold South Sea to colorful, shapely freshwater varieties. Popular gifts include long pearl strands and necklaces that mix pearls with chain and other gems, as well as bespoke designs in drop earrings and standout rings.

Gold is suggested for anniversaries number 1 and 50. Embracing major milestones, from celebrating your first year to growing old together, gold celebrates your solid bond. Gold is a transitional metal, symbolic of flexibility and a quest for perfection. There are many gift options in gold jewelry, from lockets and charms to monograms, classic chain necklaces, and bracelets. For men, cuff links and accessories are also widely available in gold.

FOR THE WEDDING PARTY Bridesmaid and groomsmen gifts should be personal, elegant mementos of the occasion, expressing the bride and groom’s appreciation. For bridesmaids, a solitaire pendant is an enduring classic, as are necklace and earring combinations, sometimes containing gemstones matched to the color of the dresses. Jewelry boxes and silver or crystal picture frames are also popular bridesmaid gifts, as are lockets engraved with the wedding date, her initials, or a short message on the back. For those dashing groomsmen, cufflinks and stud sets are the perfect way to complete their formal attire.
