MASAI A LUXURIOUS BLEND OF LEGENDARY TRADITIONS by Marco Bicego

A

A legacy of craftsmanship unfolds in the quiet elegance of an artisan’s workshop in Trissino, Italy. Here, amidst the delicate hum of creativity, Marco Bicego brings to life his latest masterpiece: the 2024 Masai collection. Inspired by the art and tradition of the legendary African civilization, the Masai collection whispers tales of ancient beauty and modern sophistication, captivating hearts with its clean lines and timeless elegance. At the heart of these inspired pieces is a unique technique exclusive to the Marco Bicego brand: the flat golden coil. Inspired by the distinctive stacked style of jewelry worn by the Maasai women, the collection features this refined detail by wrapping a gold wire around a woven chain and then pressing it to form a semi-rigid gold ribbon. The result is a beautiful, fluid piece that translates effortlessly into various silhouettes, creating a collection that is both versatile and striking.

14 | BENARI JEWELERS MAGAZINE

“THE APPEARANCE OF MAASAI WOMEN, PARTICULARLY THEIR DECORATIVE, UNIQUE STYLE OF WEARING STACKED JEWELRY, WAS A SUBJECT OF GREAT INTEREST AND INTRIGUE TO ME AS I WAS CONCEIVING THIS COLLECTION,” explained Marco Bicego, founder and creative director of the eponymous brand. “I wanted to experiment with the flat coil, our exclusive and distinctive craftsmanship technique, in combination with brilliant-cut diamonds for unparalleled radiance. And in this latest evolution of the collection, I wanted to introduce stacking bangles that perfectly complement each other, styling elegantly either together or alone. You can accumulate flat coil rings, bracelets, and necklaces without ever looking overloaded, quite the contrary.” The Masai collection is full of stunning and luxurious wearables that elevate your everyday attire with ease. Picture contemporary pieces like bangles, huggies, statement rings, and collars featuring 18 karat gold and brilliant-cut diamond bars. This classic combination of luxurious gold coils and a touch of sparkling diamonds and gemstones creates an ultra-glamorous yet effortless style. Each piece is designed for those who appreciate the finer things in life.

Highlights of the Collection Among the standout pieces in the Masai collection are the bangles. These bestsellers, available in yellow, rose, and white gold and sometimes accented with pavé diamonds, are a testa- ment to the brand’s commitment to excellence. The sleek oval design of the bangles is both rigid and flexible, thanks to the innovative coil technique and integrated clasp. This not only ensures ease of wear but also invites layering, encouraging a “more is more” approach to ac- cessorizing. Stacking these bangles creates a stunning effect, enhancing their inherent beauty and making a bold statement.

The Masai Collection: A Perfect Symphony For those who seek the perfect blend of contemporary style and timeless elegance, Marco Bicego’s Masai collection is a must-have. Watch as any embellishment in this collection effortlessly transforms your daytime office attire into a graceful evening ensemble.

OYSTER PERPETUAL day-date

Harmonious variations

The new versions of the Oyster Perpetual Day-Date express the brand’s enduring desire for rare and wide-ranging expertise to be found in even the smallest details. Colors, materials, motifs, hour markers — each element contributes to the harmony of the new combinations. Two new versions of the Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 40 are unveiled. The first, in 18 k Everose gold, introduces a slate ombré dial. This design offers a delicate transition between light at the centre of the dial and darkness around the edge. The second version, in 18 k white gold, features a pearlized white mother-of-pearl dial. Its irregular, voluminous texture evokes tiny overlapping clouds that play with the light. The Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 36 is also released in two new versions. The first, in 18 k yellow gold, has a white lacquer dial with faceted, deconstructed Roman numerals and faceted index hour markers. The second version is presented in 18 k Everose gold with a blue-green dial. This deep, intense color is illuminated by a bezel set with 60 trapeze-cut diamonds.

OYSTER PERPETUAL gmt-master II

Echoing emotions

For the first time, the Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II in Oystersteel is presented with a Cerachrom bezel insert in grey and black ceramic. Introduced to the range in 2023, this muted color contrast subtly evokes the alternation of day and night. Two new versions are offered, combining discretion and functionality: one with an Oyster bracelet, the other with a Jubilee bracelet. Their green 24-hour hand displays much more than just an alternative time zone. It points to another location that resonates with the wearer — a reminder of the emotions that accompany each traveller.

Elegance in movement PERPETUAL 1908

The Perpetual 1908 is now available in 950 platinum with an ice blue dial, a hue that is exclusively for Rolex watches in this prestigious metal. On this guilloché dial with a rice-grain motif, light bounces off the raised pattern, producing a variety of reflections with every movement of the wrist. The decoration alludes to traditional watchmaking, yet the rosette-like design, centred on the small seconds counter at 6 o’clock, gives this watch exceptional personality. A watch of rare distinction, the new 1908 is a visual masterpiece that affirms its unique identity with elegance and finesse.

The first Rolex deep-sea diver’s watch in 18 k yellow gold, the new Oyster Perpetual Rolex Deepsea is decked in blue on its dial, its bezel insert, and its compression ring. Made from blue ceramic — a technical innovation that is the result of a pioneering manufacturing process — this Cerachrom ring is decorated with a circular satin finish. It forms part of the Ringlock system, a case architecture that enables the watch to withstand the colossal pressure of the deep sea. Precious and technical. Majestic and innovative. A bright watch for the dark abyss. This new version of the Rolex Deepsea is engineered to shine into the ocean depths.

These reinterpretations of the iconic watch achieve the perfect balance of precision and preciousness. A subtle interplay of hues reflects wide-ranging expertise, from gem-setting to the art of dial making. The watches, made from 18 k white gold, write another chapter in the legendary story of a model known for a wealth of variations, summoning the potential in each of us for perpetual reinvention.

CROSSOVER TRIO COLLECTION David Yurman

B

Born from a collaboration between David Yurman and his wife, Sybil, the namesake brand’s Crossover collection is a striking example of creative synergy, effectively blending their distinct perspectives into a cohesive design narrative. “Design is our love language,” said Sybil, “and Crossover is the ultimate love letter. It’s a playful expression of our connection.” At the heart of the Crossover collection is the interplay of intertwined strands of smooth and signature cabled cords. Further, its innovative use of mixed metals — combining gold and silver — has become a signature element of David Yurman’s work, first introduced in this collection and carried forward in each new iteration.

The latest interpretation of the Crossover collection, Trio, adds a whole new dimension to the design with the integration of perfect triangles. The Yurmans’ son, Evan, introduced these pyramidal elements, drawing inspiration from architecture while simultaneously adding a generational touch. These perfect triangles not only seamlessly integrate into the weaving of smooth and cabled strands, but also represent the continuation of the family’s creative legacy and unity that binds them.

DESIGN IS OUR LOVE LANGUAGE, AND CROSSOVER IS THE ULTIMATE LOVE LETTER. IT’S A PLAYFUL EXPRESSION OF OUR CONNECTION.

34 | BENARI JEWELERS MAGAZINE

Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the Crossover collection Trio drives an even deeper narrative of collaboration and connection. A project where the family members designed alongside one another, the result is a collection that not only showcases the passion and craftsmanship that David Yurman has become known for, but also serves as a symbol of the family’s enduring ties.

From bangles to huggies and hoops, rings, necklaces, and beyond, the collection includes an array of jewels, often featuring the added brilliance of hand-set pavé diamonds.

Longines LEGEND DIVER

O

Originally designed for underwater exploration, the Longines Legend Diver is equally at home on land or underwater. With its timeless design and cutting-edge performance, it is a true icon of watchmaking. To mark the occasion of its 65th anniversary, the collection welcomes new dials, including a fresh lacquer green version. Presented on a 39 mm stainless steel case that is water-resistant up to 30 bar (300m), Longines Legend Diver watches are certified both as chronometers by COSC and as a diver’s watch in accordance with the ISO 6425 standard. The Legend Diver line boasts a unique heritage in the world of watchmaking. As early as 1937, the brand launched the very first chronograph with water-resistant pushers, which it patented in 1938, followed by its first dive watch in 1958. A year later, Longines developed a watch specially designed for underwater exploration with a revolutionary Super-Compressor case with an internal rotating bezel and two screw-in crowns: the design of the Longines Legend Diver was born. Today, the emblematic diver’s watch has been revamped inside and out, while remaining faithful to the original model. The instantly recognizable dial has no date and is topped by a domed sapphire crystal with black metallic treatment and multiple layers of anti-reflective coating on both sides. The hours are marked by elongated indexes and raised Arabic numerals coated with Super-LumiNova, as are the polished rhodium-plated arrow hands.

Another feature of this collection is the internal bidirectional rotating bezel for measuring dive time. The bezel’s position inside the case protects it from accidental manipulation and shocks that could disrupt its settings. The screw-in crown at 2 o’clock activates it on a 60-minute scale, topped with a luminescent triangle symbol. The sleek stainless steel case features alternating polished and satin-brushed surfaces. A figure of a diver, the symbol of the collection, is stamped on the perfectly angled screw-down case back. Powered by the exclusive emblematic Longines Caliber L888.6 self-winding movement with 72 hours of power reserve and fitted with a “grains of rice” steel bracelet, the new green Legend Diver continues the legacy of Longines’ famed diving watch.

Tudor Black Bay

T

Tudor introduces the newest iteration of the Black Bay in monochrome. Representing the latest in Black Bay, this model features evolved design elements, a “T-fit” clasp, and is Master Chronometer certified by METAS. The Black Bay, first launched in 2012, remains one of Tudor’s most recognized and beloved models. In its latest iteration, the case keeps the original proportions of a 41 mm case with a thinner profile. The unidirectional rotatable bezel features a black aluminum insert with a 60-minute scale to track immersion times, and the satin black dial is softly radial-brushed for a subtle shine under direct light. The Black Bay line features dials inspired by the Tudor divers’ watches produced during the 1950s. It borrows the characteristic angular hands known to collectors as

“snowflake” from models that appeared in the brand’s 1969 catalog. Its shoulder-less crown and the characteristics of its case are reminiscent of the first generations of Tudor divers’ watches. The new monochrome Black Bay ref. M7941A1A0NU comes fitted with either an entirely satin-brushed three-link stainless steel bracelet, a five-oval-shaped- link brushed and polished stainless steel bracelet, or a cut-to-size black rubber strap. All variations are equipped with the Tudor “T-fit” clasp with a system for rapid length adjustment. Easy to use, requiring no tools, and offering five positions, this practical system allows wearers to carry out a fine, instant adjustment of the total length of the bracelet along an adjustment window of 8 mm.

The METAS Master Chronometer-certified Manufacture Caliber MT5602-U automatic movement displays hour, minute, and seconds functions. The METAS Master Chronometer certification is comprehensive and covers the main functional characteristics of a watch. As such, the new Black Bay functions within a 5-second range of variation each day (0/+5), boasts resistance to 15,000 gauss of magnetic fields, is water-resistant to 660 feet, and includes a power reserve of 70 hours.

Celebrity watch ambassadors and sporting partnerships are not new to the watch world; it’s a tried-and-tested formula that’s decades old. From fashion designers and actors to athletes PARTNERSHIPS THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE Time to Collaborate

and racing teams, brands are looking beyond their watchmaking ateliers for inspiration. Here are some of the latest collaborations that have produced top-tier timepieces.

Tudor + Visa Cash App RB Formula One Team Tudor has had a long legacy with motorsports and the brand recently partnered with the all-new Visa Cash App RB Formula One team. To celebrate, the Swiss watchmaker created the Black Bay Ceramic “Blue” — a version of its Master Chronometer certified Black Bay Ceramic with a striking blue dial to match the F1 team livery. Aesthetically, the watch combines contemporary, high-tech details with subtle ref- erences to its significant heritage. Its matte black monobloc 41 mm ceramic case has sand-blasted surfaces with beveled edges, mirror-polished for a striking contrast, and is finished with very pronounced lines. Mechanically, the watch represents Tudor’s relentless pursuit of mechanical performance. Tested by the Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS), the Master Chronometer certification, which the watch has, is one of the industry’s most demanding standards in terms of chronometry and resistance to magnetic fields. This is the same watch the team drivers, Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda, wear around the paddock.

Spear Collection John Hardy

A NEW ERA OF LUXURY

Under the creative leadership of Reed Krakoff, the brand prepares for its 50th anniversary next year with a new vision and new hit collection.

O

One evolutionary mark came with the addition of Reed Krakoff as John Hardy’s new creative chairman in late 2022. Krakoff, the three-time Council of Fashion Designers of America award winner for accessory design, quickly put his mark on the brand. Formerly serving as Tiffany’s first chief artistic officer as well as Coach’s president and chief creative director, Krakoff brought an overarching vision to propel the brand forward while still paying homage to its heritage. His latest collection, Spear, reimagines John Hardy’s signature woven chain with a modern twist, using flexible titanium wire for comfort and wearability. The result? Dynamic jewelry designed to be worn by all. The pieces in the Spear collection are adjustable, making them versatile enough for any wardrobe. With diamond pavé details and meticulously crafted designs in sterling silver and two-tone options, this collection is

available in both women’s and men’s styles, giving jewelry enthusiasts the chance to experience the timeless craftsmanship of John Hardy with a distinctly modern edge. “Everything is shown on women and men, and that’s really the approach. I can’t remember a time when jewelry was so genderless,” says Krakoff, under- scoring the collection’s broad appeal. Spear isn’t about quiet luxury but rather tough, cool luxury that can be worn every day, no matter your style — proof that John Hardy is dedicated to continuing its legacy of artisanal excellence while stepping boldly into the future.

SPECTRUM OF STYLE

By Jennifer Brugh

I

In recent years, layering jewelry has become a fashion must. Throughout the seasons, we’ve witnessed all the ways you can customize the “neck-mess,” stack bold statement pieces around the wrist, or even accentuate a look with various ear accessories. And this year, we’re mixing in even more color. Whether it’s a pop of emerald green or a hint of sapphire blue, vibrant gemstones are redefining how you accessorize. So, it’s time to infuse your style with some color play.

INFUSING EVERYDAY ELEGANCE WITH VIBRANCY

Adding colorful gemstones to your collection is easier than you think. The wrist is always a good place to start: mix gold bangles with a few bold, colorful gemstone bracelets for a playful yet sophisticated stack. For your neck, try layering delicate chains with different gemstone pendants, combining green, pink, purple, or even blue hues that add a refreshing touch to your outfit. The beauty of incorporating colorful gemstones is their versatility. Whether you’re dressing up for a special occasion or keeping it casual, these pieces can effortlessly enhance your wardrobe. For example, a simple white blouse can easily transform from bland to bold with several strategically placed pieces. Stack a few bracelets in varying shades of blue and green, or mix in a bold, multi-colored gemstone ring to draw attention to your hands.

One standout collection is Marco Bicego’s Paradise line, with this year’s additions featuring a stunning mixture of blue topaz and aquamarine gemstones. You can’t go wrong with any part of this collection, as each adornment adds a soft and heavenly elegance to your outfit. Pair a mixed topaz bracelet with classic gold pieces for a refined look, or add an aquamarine necklace to your layered chains for a pop of color that’s stylish and modern.

RARE SPORT TOURER

911 S/T

By Gary Wollenhaupt

No Lightweight

T

The 60th-anniversary edition of the Porsche 911 S/T is a commemorative lightweight edition built to extract as much driving enjoyment from the 911 platform as possible. It’s a collector’s item from day one, with a limited run of 1,963 units. The directive to the engineers at Porsche was simple: create a purpose-built machine for a pure, undiluted driving experience.

The starting point was the original 911 S version from 1969, tweaked for competitive racing. The new 911 S/T embodies the spirit of the original 911 S for the current generation of the venerable Porsche 911. It’s the lightest model of its generation, at 3,056 lbs., or 70 lbs. lighter than its sibling, the manual GT3 Touring. Many components, including the hood, roof, doors, and front

fenders, are crafted from carbon fiber- reinforced plastic. Insulation and rear-axle steering were left off the assembly list to save a few pounds. The magnesium wheels and ceramic composite brakes omit additional unnecessary weight. These engineering decisions contribute to agile and direct handling.

THE BASE MSRP STARTS AT $293,350, AND THE HERITAGE DESIGN PACKAGE ADDS ANOTHER $20,670. MULTIPLE OPTIONS AND COLORS, INCLUDING PAINT-TO- MATCH, ADD TO THE STICKER PRICE.

Engaging the accelerator puts the pieces in motion, with the exclusive lightweight single-mass flywheel encouraging the naturally aspirated 518 hp, 4.0 L boxer engine to build revs with refreshing directness.

With the short gear ratio on the six-speed manual transmission, the 911 S/T peaks at 9,000 rpm on its way to a top speed of 186 mph, passing 60 mph in 3.5 seconds.

With the lightweight flywheel, a firm hand on the gearshift is required to finesse each gear change. The autoblip function does take some of the stress out of coordinating downshifts.

With less insulation and lightweight glass, it’s noisier inside than an average 911, but that’s not all bad. Rather than overwhelming wind or tire noise, you can hear the interactions of the parts orchestrating a symphony of mechanical delights. With only 1,963 examples available worldwide, consider yourself fortunate to see one, let alone own one. The consolation prize is the standard 911 GT3 Touring, which would be the gold medal if you didn’t know the S/T existed.

TREASURES THAT TRANSCEND

Heirloom Jewelry

H

Heirloom jewelry weaves together the threads of family history and personal memories. Wearing something borrowed, like great-grandmother’s pearls or a generational ring, marries eras and legacies. Each piece of heirloom jewelry is imbued with stories, cherished moments, and the love of those who wore it before. More than just accessories, these treasures are tangible links to the past — symbols of continuity and tradition.

In selecting a piece to become an heirloom, consider classic designs and high-quality craftsmanship that will stand the test of time. A diamond necklace, with its enduring beauty and brilliance, for example, can become a treasured item worn on special occasions, destined to be handed down from one generation to the next.

Creating an heirloom of one’s own to pass down to future generations is a way to contribute to this cherished family history; it’s a way to breathe new life into pieces that have already lived well beyond simple styles and trends. A new diamond necklace or a pair of diamond earrings can become the heirlooms of tomorrow, carrying stories and memories forward.

HEIRLOOM JEWELRY, WHETHER PASSED DOWN OR NEWLY CHOSEN, HOLDS A UNIQUE PLACE IN OUR LIVES.

It represents a connection to our roots, a celebration of our present, and a gift for the future. By wearing and cherishing these pieces, we honor the past, embrace the present, and create a lasting legacy for those who come after us.

YOUR STYLE WINDOW

By Becky Stone

Planning a wedding is daunting, especially now that brides-to-be have infinite online inspiration at their fingertips. There are so many different types of weddings that it can be hard to know which approach is right. Will you start your happily-ever-after at a small backyard affair? A black-tie evening in a museum rotunda? Maybe a literary ceremony at a historic library? Before diving into tablescapes, rings, favors, and all the other fun details, it’s helpful for a bride to pick a theme for her wedding day. Do you see yourself as a traditional or modern bride? Having one style in mind while planning helps ensure that every element of your wedding works beautifully together on the big day. bride what kind of are you ?

64 | BENARI JEWELERS MAGAZINE

modern

The modern bride is deeply in touch with her personal style and won’t hesitate to throw tradition out the window in favor of personalization. She might choose a colorful wedding dress or a sleek bridal jumpsuit, a cannoli cart instead of a cake, maybe even a dapper flower man slinging blooms as he bops down the aisle, instead of the typical teetering tot with a basket of petals.

A modern wedding is all about fun and freshness. The sky’s the limit for venue — sometimes literally, if the lovebirds are skydiving enthusiasts or hot air balloon lovers. Modern brides also love a location with an activity, like a fairground with a gorgeous carousel or a zoo where a penguin attends cocktail hour. Anything is possible for a modern bride’s jewelry. Her dream ring might have vibrant colored gems, especially with unusual stone

shapes and color combinations. She might also go for the cutting-edge technology of lab-grown diamonds, perhaps a gorgeous elongated marquise cut stone in an edgy east-west setting. Or she might decide to find a “man-gagement” ring to propose back to her partner — or even be the first to pop the question herself. One thing’s for sure, the modern bride will get exactly the ring she wants, regardless of anyone’s expectations.

65 | BENARI JEWELERS MAGAZINE

traditional

The traditional bride embraces the exquisite beauty of wedding classics. Her gown will be minimalist and magnificent. She’ll want a subdued color scheme that’s mostly neutrals, a bespoke tuxedo for her groom, and a matching bowtie for her well-behaved golden retriever. Everything will be refined and as wedding-ey as a wedding can be.

The venue for a traditional wedding will be elegant, perhaps a manicured garden with long banquet tables under the stars or a hotel with a stately ballroom and impeccable service. Guests should expect to shed a tear at the beauty of the couple’s flawlessly choreographed first dance and will most likely take home a high-end monogrammed wedding favor.

A traditional bride’s jewelry will be as sophisticated and tasteful as she is. Look to streamlined solitaires with hidden halos, emerald cut diamonds with impeccable color and clarity, or family heirloom stones reset to honor a new generation’s love story. Don’t forget a wedding band that matches the engagement ring — perhaps a band that’s tapered to fit against the specific ring for a seamless stack. Nothing too flashy, and always classy. Whatever the traditional bride chooses for her jewels, her ring will be timeless — an instant future heirloom.
