LOCAL TREASURES

A FEAST FOR ALL THE SENSES YOUR GUIDE TO CROWD-PLEASING CHARCUTERIE FROM

I t’s hard to pinpoint exactly what France 44 is. Sure, we’re a liquor store. But we’re also an artisan cheese shop, scratch deli, whole animal butcher, gourmet grocery, catering business, happy hour locale, education hub, event partner, food and beverage consultant, corporate gift specialist, and the list goes on. Our job, in short, is to honor the farmers and artisans who put so much time and care into the products we sell, to ensure that when you take goods home from our shop, whether from our own

kitchen or from across the world, you find yourself fully equipped to enjoy them to the absolute fullest. Whether you’re a gourmand or a culinary novice, our experts are here to help you find the perfect pieces of cheese, cuts of meat, or bottles of wine to make your event flawless, even if that event is just dinner. While we love to provide our catering services, sometimes crafting your own cheese plate can be an even more rewarding way to elevate any gathering. Building a beautiful cheese board may

seem like daunting task, but you don’t have to be a cheesemonger to do it, we promise! The three most important principles to consider when building your board are: selection, design, and timing. If you’ve purchased your cheese and charcuterie at France 44, you’ve already made a great choice by supporting small artisans and securing fresh-cut, high quality products for your spread. Try to purchase your materials on the day of your event if possible for optimum flavor.

SELECTION Contrasting flavors and textures create both visual drama and excitement for the palate. Begin by selecting 3-5 cheeses of different styles (for example: alpine, gouda, cheddar, and brie). For more adventurous crowds, you might consider including a washed rind or blue cheese. As a rule, we recommend at least an ounce serving per person per cheese. Garnishes are essential for creating a visually unified board. Fresh fruit is a must (berries and grapes work best). Dried fruits, nuts, and flowers are excellent additions too. Including a ramekin of honey or jam provides a great anchor to build your board around, as well as a sweet complement to any cheese. IF YOU’VE PURCHASED YOUR CHEESE AND CHARCUTERIE AT FRANCE 44 , YOU’VE ALREADY MADE A GREAT CHOICE.
