JDC JOURNEY

SPOKANE : THE FLAGSHIP

Here, we capture the historical essence of North Division Street in Spokane, Washington. the very place that would later transform into the iconic Jewelry Design Center.

In the rich history of our legacy, Jewelry Design Center stands as a testament to a remarkable journey spanning four decades. It all began with Doug Toone, a visionary jeweler whose passion and dedication became the foundation of our story. With a booth at the iconic World’s Fair (Expo ‘74), Doug’s talent sparked a realization – every piece he crafted and showcased, found a loving home an indication of his true artistry.

personalized service earned him accolades, setting the stage for our evolution. The journey was not without its twists and turns. From our Northtown location to the sprawling expanses of the South hill and Valley, we transformed spaces, leaving imprints and growing a well- known reputation. Yet, it was at 821 N. Division St. that Jewelry Design Center found its forever home after 27 years of growth and expansion. Our loyal patrons, the cherished JDC “superfans,” have been our constant companions, following us faithfully through each transformation. Our 1977 generation of clients, have referred children and even grandchildren to JDC throughout the years – the true definition of what we mean when we say ‘We want to be your jeweler for life’. At the heart of our evolution lies a commitment: to offer bespoke service that feels like home. Doug’s legacy lives on, not just in our jewelry but in the unwavering dedication to our clients. Every piece we create, and every design that’s introduced to our displays, is a testament to our enduring passion.

In 1977, the inaugural Jewelry Design Center, then known as Doug Toone Jewelry Manufacturing, opened its doors. With a single display case and a burning desire to create unique custom jewelry, Doug ventured into uncharted territory. His exceptional craftsmanship and

WhyMontana? For Brian and Denver Toone, owners of JDC, the dream of establishing a Jewelry Design Center in their beloved state was rooted into the core of their being. Growing up here meant more than just school and football games; it meant forging lifelong connections, like Brian finding his highschool sweetheart (Beth Toone), amid these vast landscapes. The support and love they received from this community were the building blocks of their dreams, nurturing them into the individuals they are today. Giving back to this supporting community became imperative, a heartfelt tribute to the place that shaped their identities. Montana isn’t just a location for us; it’s an intrinsic part of who we are. It’s the echoes of laughter in the schoolyard, the thrill of chasing dreams under the Big Sky, and the quiet moments that make a life complete. Montana is not just a state; it’s our cherished home. desire to create with unparalleled precision and artistry. This venture is more than a business expansion; it’s a deeply personal endeavor, a promise to our roots, a testament to the love and passion that Montana instilled in us. In this endeavor, we carry not just the weight of ambition, but the warmth of nostalgia and the hope of giving back, making our mark in the very soil that made us who we are. Montana, to us, is not just a location; it’s a story, a sentiment, and a lifelong journey.

With renovations complete, we’re excited to open our doors to Montana!

They are one of the few sapphire sources in North America, making them particularly special to people in the United States and collectors who appreciate gems from distinct locations. We have an exclusive distribution of a private collection of Montana Sapphires that have been tracked to the exact source. These rare gems are renowned for their unique beauty and unusual color. Artists of all kinds draw inspiration from nature and this is especially true of jewelry designers. Gold is the perfect palette for colorful gemstones that remind us of the deep blue sea, majestic evergreens or even gems that mimic the shape of a raindrop. Floral motifs, leaves and insects are also popular and somewhat whimsical signs of nature that are beautifully reflected in rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings. MIKIMOTO

THE ORIGINAL PEARL COMPANY CELEBRATES MORE THAN A CENTURY AT THE TOP

A mong pearl companies, Mikimoto is the undisputed giant. The Japanese Akoya pearl cultivator celebrates its 130th anniversary this year, at a time when pearls are peaking, once again in both the worlds of fashion and jewelry. Mikimoto can proudly claim to have invented the cultured pearl, along with the established standards of excellence in the production and grading of these beautiful gems. So naturally, its standards exceed all others. Only a small percentage of the world’s cultured pearls meet the quality criteria set by Mikimoto. At a time when supplies of Akoya pearls are dwindling, and demand has never been higher, prices for pearls have soared over the past year, and Mikimoto pearls have become especially prized. To pearl lovers, the very best specimens are worth the cost, and represent an investment in fine jewelry style and substance. A Mikimoto strand is an heirloom. The company was built on a foundation of passion. As a boy, founder Kokichi Mikimoto was fascinated with natural pearls, and sat for hours watching divers bring in their daily hauls from the waters near Toba, his home town on the eastern tip of Japan’s Shima peninsula. In the wild, fewer than one-in-a-thousand oyster shells can produce a pearl during a lifetime, but Mikimoto began to dream of finding a way to culture pearls, and to do it in a way that consistently produced specimens that were perfectly round and smooth. That way, instead of being a luxury only for the wealthy, he could bring pearls to women everywhere.

His ultimate solution was to introduce an “irritant” into Akoya oysters - a tiny mother-of-pearl bead that stimulates the oyster’s nacre secretion, causing it to naturally create the thousands of layers around the bead that form a pearl. In 1893, he produced the world’s first cultured pearl. His pearls were a hit, and soon Mikimoto opened a store in Tokyo’s Ginza shopping district. In the process, he established one of the world’s original luxury brands. Stores in Paris, London and New York soon followed. Mikimoto didn’t stop there. He sent skilled craftsmen to Europe to learn the latest design techniques and jewelry styles, including Art Deco and Art Nouveau, because he wanted to present his pearls in the finest way possible. He didn’t want to just show pearls as they were, but in the context of very fine jewelry. Mikimoto spent decades blending traditional Japanese metalworking craftsmanship with European manufacturing techniques to create what became the distinctive Mikimoto style. His work built the foundation for modern jewelry production in Japan. Mikimoto has continued to refine and expand upon his techniques, culturing many different types of pearls, including black and white South Sea cultured pearls. Today, 95% of all pearls on the market are cultured, meaning that humans played a role in their formation. High-quality natural pearls are very rare and have a premium price, but even among Akoya pearls, top specimens are rare. The top grades - AAA - represent less than 3% of the world’s pearl harvest. Only a small percentage

of these pearls would meet the standard and quality set by Mikimoto. The difference is obvious if you know what to look for. Akoya pearls are graded according to several factors, including the following factors. LUSTER The sharpness and amount of light reflected off the pearl’s surface. SHAPE The more perfectly round a pearl is, the more rare and prized it is. COLOR Pearl color is graded on the depth and saturation of the color. The more color saturated pearls will be more rare and valuable. Certain overtones or exotic body colors command premium pricing at auctions. SURFACE BLEMISHING Pearls with clean surfaces without inclusions like pin-pricks, scoring marks, chalky spots and wrinkles will be much more highly valued than pearls with multiple blemishes. SIZE Large pearls are rare. The majority of cultured pearls harvests consist of pearls under 10.0mm and wild pearls in very large sizes are the rarest of the rare, so the bigger they are (all other things being equal) the more valuable they are.

JDC Spokane couple Ashton and Sydnie had a truly magical Fourth of July proposal on their favorite lake, Long Lake. With the fireworks lighting up the summer sky, Sydnie happily said ‘Yes!’ to the big question and to a gorgeous Noam Carver engagement ring, a lake memory that they will never forget.

The Northwest region is a captivating and diverse area that gleams with its natural beauty, vibrant cities, and a unique way of life. In the winter, you can hit the slopes of Mount Spokane, Schweitzer, Snowbowl or one of the other many mountains that have phenomenal skiing and snowboarding.

Fun Fact: Did you know that every year around the holiday season, our team gets together to create a new concept for a JDC Snowflake themed pendant? We started this in 2017 and have continued the tradition each year with different themes including our 2019 “Lilac City Love” snowflake with the Spokane Pavilion and Clock tower design details as well as the 2020 “Columbia Valley” snowflake with grape vines to signify the plethora wineries in central Washington. Our 2022 “Craftsmen Edition” Snowflake Pendant was created by our team of goldsmiths, handcrafted with actual meteorite cut and carved to fit inside of each piece. Stay tuned to see what our 2023 edition will be!

Living in the Pacific Northwest offers a lifestyle that is as diverse as its landscapes. From the rugged beauty of its natural surroundings to the rich cultural tapestry of its cities, this region captivates the hearts of those who call it home. BREITLING Top Time Classic Cars Collection

T he 1960s was a decade of experimentation, fun, freedom, and energy. Whether cruising on a motorcycle or revving up a sports car, living life at full speed was the order of the day. Third-generation founder Willy Breitling felt this change of pace and set out to design an unconventional chronograph that captured the verve of the era. He called it the Top Time.

“The Top Time represented a break from traditional watch design for a generation that was breaking with convention in every way,” says Breitling CEO, Georges Kern. “We are going after that sense of freedom and fun with the 1960s-inspired Top Time Classic Cars collection, and are thrilled to once again partner with Ford to introduce the new Thunderbird model, along with updated versions of the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Corvette, and Shelby Cobra chronographs.”

The updated Classic Cars collection now includes the Ford Thunderbird model with a red strap and clean white dial that draws the eye to the teal Thunderbird logo and red chronograph hands. Design elements include the perforated leather racing strap, speed-measuring tachymeter scale, and contrasting “squircle” (not quite square, not quite round) subdials that are evocative of vintage dashboard gauges. And just like its style-driven 1960s predecessor, the Top Time’s 41-mm stainless-steel case is a comfortable size for car and watch lovers of all stripes.

From the start, the Top Time was all about action, and it became a fast favorite among motor enthusiasts and the fashion set. One of the first chronographs that was equally sought after by both men and women, its bold, graphic designs took over magazines and the silver screen (the world’s favorite spy, James Bond, even wore an iteration in the 1965 movie Thunderball). That spirited tradition continues today with Breitling partnering with some of the coolest names in wheels to create its Top Time designs – brands

Engagement rings last a lifetime, so the party can go on and on. life of the party best personality An engagement ring in a modern design is an opportunity to use various metals or colors that can reveal your individual style. Mixed metals give rings a certain type of flair that can be realized in a single ring or by choosing different metals for each of your rings that you wear in a stacking style. Alternatively, add color through your center stone, accents or even your band, and show the world you do things your own way. The possibilities are endless.

Classic rings are enduring, elegant, and always timeless in style. You will be the envy of all of your friends, whether you choose a traditional six-prong setting with a diamond solitaire, pavé diamonds, or a simple, unadorned band. To add a bit of flair to your solitaire, include a bezel or half bezel around the center stone to give your ring a modern twist. The classic three-stone ring offers a timeless effect. Feature it with ovals, emeralds, or marquise-cut stones for a fresh look. Beautiful styles have staying power for a reason. most likely to succeed

D iamond Selection — a phrase that sounds so simple, even generic, but there is so much more to selecting the most beautiful diamonds available on the market, especially at JDC. As one of the largest independent diamond retailers in the US, we strive to offer the most exquisite diamonds to our clients. WE KNOW DIAMONDS. When you work with the top diamond suppliers worldwide on the level we do, it becomes a fundamental part of our identity. We pride ourselves on our rejection rate — working with our suppliers who know what our parameters are, we still reject well over 90% of the diamonds that they have curated for our consideration.

STEP ONE: THE “IT” FACTOR. When top design houses select models to showcase their products, there is no succinct formula that dictates beauty. We approach diamonds in the same way, by looking for a radiance and sparkle that transcends rarity factors. Each gem should be as special as the reason for which they are given. STEP TWO: OUR CONCEPT OF VALUE. While we could choose to

Ask us about our 100 Day Diamond Guarantee and lifetime trade to see how different we are from other diamond dealers out there. Beauty is said to be in the eye of the beholder — we invite you to behold the beauty we have selected as worthy of your most special occasions. Within every rarity factor, there is a notable range of variance — come see how our diamonds exemplify the very best of their rarity factors in that oh-so-important balance of beauty and value. EXCEPTIONAL DIAMONDS: Sometimes, you meet a diamond that inspires … one that sings with a brilliance that is memorable in ways difficult to express. The JDC collection of exceptional diamonds begins with a diamond that is such a muse, revealing a vision of how to best showcase the beauty that is intrinsic in such a miraculous gem. Here, we present one of our favorite exceptional pieces. This is a Platinum 3 Stone Ring, featuring a 2.13 Carat Emerald Cut E / VS2 Natural Diamond, with two hand selected matching Cadillac Diamonds.

focus only on the rarest gems, our mission is to be a jeweler for life to any person who enters our stores. With that goal in mind, we tackle the daunting task of balancing beauty with a level of attainability to allow any of our clients to feel comfortable in knowing they will have the very best diamond regardless of budget. Whether your budget is in the starter range, or striving for the rarest and most exceptional, we will be able to procure the best option available. STEP 3: TALK IS CHEAP. There are a lot of jewelry companies out there that claim similar things. We back

BRILLIANCE AS A BIRTHRIGHT

WHETHER LAB-GROWN OR NATURAL, A DIAMOND IS A THING OF BEAUTY

L ab-grown diamonds have carved out a niche in the world of jewelry, and they’re here to stay. Not that they will ever replace natural diamonds, which hold a place of honor in fine jewelry. We’re here to detail the attributes of both, so you can make an informed choice. Lab-grown diamonds have emerged as a com- pelling option because, in the technical sense, there is no difference between lab-grown and nat- ural diamonds. Lab-grown contain all the same physical properties that we have come to love and admire about the ones made by Mother Nature. The difference is that lab-grown diamonds are created through technological processes. They are synthetic, which does not mean the same thing as simulant. They have exactly the same properties as natural diamonds.

One of those properties is hardness. A diamond is the hardest mineral known to man, which means it takes a very fine polish that enables radiant white light return and plenty of sparkle. Because diamonds are so durable, they last forever, which makes them perfect for jewelry that will be worn every day and passed on to the next generation. There is something so awe-inspiring and romantic about the origins of the natural diamond. They are formed over millions of years deep within the Earth’s crust — the harvest of mother nature’s bounty. The world’s most important diamonds — the Hope, the Cullinan, the Taylor- Burton, etc. — are natural, carefully retrieved from the earth and polished to perfection. They are miracles of nature, and that adds a cachet that makes them eternally valuable.

JDC takes immense pride in being the exclusive purveyor of Swarovski Lab Created Diamonds. Back in 1895, when Daniel Swarovski laid the foundation of his legacy, he envisioned a world where opulence transcended boundaries, reaching women of all ages worldwide. His mission? To craft jewelry masterpieces that infused everyday lives with a touch of enchanting glamour. Fast forward to today, Swarovski Created Diamonds stand as a testament to the enduring legacy of creativity, craftsmanship, and innovation cultivated by Swarovski over the past 125 years. These diamonds represent a remarkable milestone in the company’s history of pioneering artificial materials, carrying forward the torch of elegance and sophistication into the future. It’s a win-win, either way!
