FROM OUR FAMILY TO YOURS

CELEBRATING LIFE’S MOMENTS FOR 35 YEARS

A word from co-owner, Lucy Zimmerman.

Welcome to the second issue of Roman Jewelers Magazine . Our first issue was so well received by all, we decided to continue indefinitely. We hope you will enjoy it. 2024 has been such an amazing year, and Roman Jewelers’ 35th Anniversary. It has been our pleasure, once again, to provide our clients with the finest diamonds, jewelry collections, and Swiss timepieces. We are especially proud of our staff this year, who put their heart and soul into providing an amazing in-store experience for which they were rewarded with 1,500 five star Google reviews. It is paramount to us that every person that walks into our store leaves happy. Purchasing jewelry, after all, is meant to be enjoyed. Bringing joy to customers motivates us every day. It is part of our core values — all of which were instilled in me by my

parents, Roman & Sophie, who started our business 35 years ago. I am so grateful to them for Roman Jewelers, a special place that provides us with the privilege and deep appreciation to be a part of all of your lives. I love it here. So, thank you. We hope that you will find inspiration in these pages. It is honestly not an exaggeration when we say that we’ve searched the globe to curate a fine jewelry collection to bring home to Central New Jersey. It is your support of our family business that empowers us to do so. We hope that the treasures in our cases will be enjoyed by you and your loved ones for a lifetime. This year, and always, we wish you the very best of health, luck, and love. We can’t wait to see you again and celebrate more of life’s special moments with you.

Impact100

celebrates a new chapter

at Roman Jewelers

N

Not many people can claim they’ve raised $123 million (and counting) for a philanthropic cause. Wendy Steele, however, is among the rare few. The founder of a transformative, women- led movement, Steele created Impact100 to support and transform local communities through a network of local chapters. The concept is simple; the influence is anything but. Each chapter is made up of at least 100 women who each donate $1,000 annually. The collective $100,000 is then awarded as a transformational grant to a local nonprofit organization, chosen by the members after a thorough evaluation process. This year, one of the newest chapters, Impact100 Hunterdon, held a fundraising event at Roman Jewelers in Bridgewater, New Jersey. There, Steele joined members of the Roman Jewelers team, who are also founding members of the chapter, and celebrated the success of the fund while calling for more members within the Hunterdon community and beyond.

The evening was a reminder that the Impact100 Fund is more than just financial support, it’s a catalyst for grassroots empowerment and community development that can lead to significant change. The model encourages women to engage deeply with local needs, directly involving them in the grant recipient selection process. The fund has grown into a global network, with chapters across the world collectively awarding millions to nonprofits. The impact is twofold: vital community projects receive necessary funding, and the women involved become more empowered and connected to their communities through meaningful philanthropy. As Steele said in a recent TED Talk, “Generosity is the most powerful lever we have to change the world, and everyone can do it.” Impact100 is a place for women who care deeply, who dream wildly, and who believe that, together, they are an unstoppable force for good.

IMPRESSIVE ACHIEVEMENT

By Jennifer Brugh

Bridgewater’s Golden Girl, Casey Murphy

A

Bridgewater, known for its picturesque parks, bustling shopping centers, and strong community spirit, is also the proud hometown of Olympian and gold medalist Casey Murphy.

A star goalkeeper for the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team and the North Carolina Courage, Casey Murphy recently returned from the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she and her teammates brought home the program’s fifth gold medal. Casey’s journey to the Olympics started right here in Bridgewater, where she grew up playing soccer

and dreaming big. A standout player at Rutgers University, Murphy’s career skyrocketed, and she made her USWNT goalkeeper debut in 2021. In the Paris Olympics, she continued to shine, guarding the net with the same poise and determination that have made her a favorite not only with her teammates but with soccer fans worldwide.

In honor of her incredible achievement and celebrating her Olympic debut, Roman Jewelers crafted a custom- designed Olympic necklace and presented it to Casey on August 17, just days after her return from Paris. Featuring the Olympic Rings and with “2024” engraved on the chain, the piece is a reminder of her hard work, perseverance, and success on the world’s biggest stage.

12 ROMAN JEWELERS MAGAZINE

The Olympics were always a personal goal — even before Casey’s days at Bridgewater High School. Her parents, Mike & Jill (left) always believed it would happen for her. Casey now lives in North Carolina with her husband, Chris Mirabelli, where she plays for the North Carolina Courage

“We knew this was her first Olympics, but certainly not her last,” said Lucy Zimmerman, owner of Roman Jewelers. “We wanted the necklace to reflect that — it’s a tribute to this incredible chapter in her life and career. The necklace presentation took place right here in the store, and it was a true community event. The excitement in Bridgewater was palpable, and we even posted a congratulatory message on our sign outside the intersection of Commons Way. Cars were honking, and people were waving. It was so much fun to see

the town come together to celebrate Casey’s achievement,” Zimmerman shared. “Casey’s look is unmistakable, and she was recognized by young fans who stopped by to meet her. It was heartwarming.” Designing the necklace was no small feat. With Casey off the grid in Paris, the Roman Jewelers team worked under a tight deadline to create the perfect piece. “We couldn’t decide between white or yellow gold, but in the end, yellow was the perfect choice. It matches her gold medal!” Zimmerman said.

Casey’s success is shared by her entire family, including her proud parents, Jill and Mike Murphy of Bridgewater. Their support has been integral to her journey, and it was only fitting that they were part of this special celebration. As Bridgewater’s golden girl, Casey Murphy has made her hometown incredibly proud, and Roman Jewelers was honored to be part of this momentous occasion. Congratulations, Casey, on your Olympic journey. Roman Jewelers and Bridgewater are cheering you on — now and always!

The Vernazza Collection Named after one of the five towns that make up the Cinque Terre in Italy, the design for Vernazza alludes to the facades of the city’s architecture. It’s these facades, in fact, that were the inspiration for the collection’s six-pointed flower motif.

The Venetian Princess Pirouette Collection Inspired by the adornment on the palaces that overlook Venetian canals, each piece in the Venetian Princess Pirouette collection is truly a wearable work of art. Even more, the designs draw inspiration from movements of dance, with interactive floral shapes that rotate on an axis, resulting in a multifaceted piece with many ways to wear it. One side boasts beautiful and bright precious stone petals while the other is rich with white diamonds. It’s an everyday piece meets special occasion stunner, all in one.

Masai A LUXURIOUS BLEND OF LEGENDARY TRADITIONS by Marco Bicego

A

A legacy of craftsmanship unfolds in the quiet elegance of an artisan’s workshop in Trissino, Italy. Here, amidst the delicate hum of creativity, Marco Bicego brings to life his latest masterpiece: the 2024 Masai collection. Inspired by the art and tradition of the legendary African civilization, the Masai collection whispers tales of ancient beauty and modern sophistication, captivating hearts with its clean lines and timeless elegance. At the heart of these inspired pieces is a unique technique exclusive to the Marco Bicego brand: the flat golden coil. Inspired by the distinctive stacked style of jewelry worn by the Maasai women, the collection features this refined detail by wrapping a gold wire around a woven chain and then pressing it to form a semi-rigid gold ribbon. The result is a beautiful, fluid piece that translates effortlessly into various silhouettes, creating a collection that is both versatile and striking.

“The appearance of Maasai women, particularly their decorative, unique style of wearing stacked jewelry, was a subject of great interest and intrigue to me as I was conceiving this collection,” explained Marco Bicego, founder and creative director of the eponymous brand. “I wanted to experiment with the flat coil, our exclusive and distinctive craftsmanship technique, in combination with brilliant- cut diamonds for unparalleled radiance. And in this latest evolution of the collection, I wanted to introduce stacking bangles that perfectly complement each other, styling elegantly either together or alone. You can accumulate flat coil rings, bracelets, and necklaces without ever looking overloaded, quite the contrary.” The Masai collection is full of stunning and luxurious wearables that elevate your everyday attire with ease. Picture contemporary pieces like bangles, huggies, statement rings, and collars featuring 18 karat gold and brilliant-cut diamond bars. This classic combination of luxurious gold coils and a touch of sparkling diamonds and gemstones creates an ultra-glamorous yet effortless style. Each piece is designed for those who appreciate the finer things in life.

20 ROMAN JEWELERS MAGAZINE

Highlights of the Collection Among the standout pieces in the Masai collection are the bangles. These bestsellers, available in yel- low, rose, and white gold and sometimes accented with pavé diamonds, are a testament to the brand’s commitment to excellence. The sleek oval design of the bangles is both rigid and flexible, thanks to

the innovative coil technique and integrated clasp. This not only ensures ease of wear but also invites layering, encouraging a “more is more” approach to accessorizing. Stacking these bangles creates a stunning effect, enhancing their inherent beauty and making a bold statement.

The Masai Collection: A Perfect Symphony For those who seek the perfect blend of contemporary style and timeless elegance, Marco Bicego’s Masai collection is a must-have. Watch as any embellishment in this collection effortlessly transforms your daytime office attire into a graceful evening ensemble.

CLASSIC DESIGNS BEAUTIFULLY DISRUPTED

This year, jewelry trends are taking an exhilarating turn. While styles naturally evolve, the trend of incorporating multi- shaped diamond cuts into classic designs is the most stunning disruption we’ve seen in decades. From tennis bracelets and necklaces to earrings, the infusion of diverse diamond cuts captures everyone’s attention. Imagine the timeless elegance of a tennis bracelet or eternity band, now transformed with a dazzling mix of round, princess, emerald, and marquise cuts. Each shape reflects light differently, creating a dynamic interplay that catches the eye and adds a contemporary twist to a beloved classic. The beauty of this trend lies in its organic feel, reminiscent of diamonds sprinkled effortlessly or puzzled together side by side. What’s truly inspiring about these designs is their versatility. You can seamlessly integrate these new pieces into your existing collection, creating a look that’s both harmonious and refreshingly distinct. Imagine layering a multi-shaped diamond necklace with a traditional solitaire pendant or wearing earrings that combine different cuts for a look that’s as refined as it is contemporary.

Our favorite part of this trend is its ability to make a bold statement while maintaining an air of gracefulness. It’s perfect for those who appreciate the artistry of jewelry and want to express their individuality with bold, mixed-shape jewelry designs. These pieces are not just accessories; they are conversations waiting to happen, perfect for anyone who loves to stand out. With each embellishment, the rules of classic elegance are rewritten and creative boundaries are tested. This is more than a fashion trend; it’s a movement towards embracing diversity in design.

AS WE EXPLORE THE LIMITLESS POSSIBILITIES, WE’RE REMINDED THAT BEAUTY TRULY LIES IN THE UNEXPECTED.

In the early 20th century, pearl jewelry was synonymous with elegance and status. The Art Nouveau and Edwardian eras favored delicate, intricate designs that complemented the soft luster of pearls. Necklaces were often long and layered, accentuating the graceful necklines of the period’s gowns. Pearls were also prominently featured in tiaras, brooches, and earrings, adorned with filigree work and often combined with diamonds and other gemstones for added brilliance. The 1920s brought the Jazz Age and with it, a dramatic shift in fashion. Pearls became a symbol of modernity and liberation, us classic designs, with single strand necklaces and simple stud earrings becoming timeless accessories for formal and everyday wear alike — a style movement so strong for pearls that it’s still prevalent today. REFINED ELEGANCE P earl famously worn by flappers in short, multi- strand necklaces that danced and shimmered with movement. This era celebrated the sleek sophistication of pearls, moving away from the complex styles of previous decades. The latter half of the 20th century saw experimentation with pearl jewelry, influenced by global cultural shifts and technological advancements. Cultured pearls, first introduced in the early 1900s, became more accessible, allowing for a broader range of designs and price points. Today, pearl jewelry continues to evolve alongside fashion and culture while retaining its timeless allure. Modern trends embrace versatility and individuality, offering pearls in a variety of shapes, colors, and sizes. Modern jewelry designers often juxtapose pearls with metals, like gold chain links, versus a strand of strung pearls, creating bold statements that resonate with a younger, fashion-forward audience. Minimalist designs are also popular, making them a perfect complement to casual wear like denim and leather. Just as all jewelry is an expression of personal style, pearls follow suit. While the allure of pearls remains timeless, their interpretations in design continue to evolve. And right now, they are anything but traditional.

In recent years, layering jewelry has become a fashion must. Throughout the seasons, we’ve witnessed all the ways you can customize the “neck-mess,” stack bold statement pieces around the wrist, or even accentuate a look with various ear accessories. And this year, we’re mixing in even more color. Whether it’s a pop of emerald green or a hint of sapphire blue, vibrant gemstones are redefining how you accessorize. So, it’s time to infuse your style with some color play.

Adding colorful gemstones to your collection is easier than you think. The wrist is always a good place to start: mix gold bangles with a few bold, colorful gemstone bracelets for a playful yet sophisticated stack. For your neck, try layering delicate chains with different gemstone pendants, combining green, pink, purple, or even blue hues that add a refreshing touch to your outfit. The beauty of incorporating colorful gemstones is their versatility. Whether you’re dressing up for a special occasion or keeping it casual, these pieces can effortlessly enhance your wardrobe. For example, a simple white blouse can easily transform from bland to bold with several strategically placed pieces. Stack a few bracelets in varying shades of blue and green, or mix in a bold, multi-colored gemstone ring to draw attention to your hands.

OUR INTERVIEW WITH THE INCOMPARABLE

32 ROMAN JEWELERS MAGAZINE

S

That is, until STEVE! (martin) a documentary in 2 pieces , a documentary by director Morgan Neville, playing on Apple TV+. At 78, after more than 50 years in the spotlight, Martin continues to surprise his fans. Here are a few insights he has shared from the documentary and along the way.

Since Steve Martin burst onto the comedy scene in the ’70s, he’s been a man of mystery. Despite leading sold-out stadiums in his “Excuuuuse Me routine,” headlining a roster of quotable movies, penning best-selling books, leading a banjo revival, and his bromance with Martin Short, Martin has kept his cards close to the vest, like the accomplished magician he is.

WHAT DREW YOU TO A LIFE ON STAGE? As a kid, I had a little magician act, and I’d look at the stage and think, wow, it’s like heaven up there. There is always a little anxiety when you’re doing something you hope works out.

HOW DID YOU BUILD THE WILD AND CRAZY GUY CHARACTER? I noticed the indicators — the things comedians do to indicate that the joke is over. Whether it is funny or not, the audience has made a pact; that’s when we laugh. But that’s not real laughter. So I thought, “What if I created tension and never released it?”

FUN FACT: From age 10 to 18 Steve Martin worked at Disneyland

HOW DID YOUR FAMILY REACT TO YOUR SUCCESS? After the premiere of The Jerk (1979), my father said, “He’s no Charlie Chaplin.” Later, my mother said people at the store were excited that she was my mother, and I asked her how they knew. She told them!

WHY DID YOU WALK AWAY FROM STANDUP? It’s a simple story. I was exhausted by the travel. With a movie, there’s a sense of permanence; you could get the thing exactly right. And my early act was very conceptual; I was making fun of comedy. Once the audience understood the idea, it was a dead end.

WHY ARE YOU OPENING UP NOW? I see it as an antidote to the sort of anodyne interviews, generic things I’ve talked about a million times. What an odd life I’ve had. My whole life is backward. How did I go from riddled with anxiety in my 30s to [age] 78 and really happy? How did this happen?”

There’s a fine line between too much noise and too little as you fall asleep. It’s hard to block out loud noises, but too little noise and your brain latches on to every distraction. You need the right kind of aural stimulation to put you in productive sleep mode. The question becomes, white noise or brown noise? Studies have shown that listening to specific frequencies can improve sleep quality and reduce the time it takes to fall asleep. Playing gentle and relaxing sounds can help cover abrupt noises that would otherwise wake you.

White noise is a combination of all audio frequencies that humans can hear, which blend into a high-pitched, staticky sound. You’ve heard it in sounds like TV or radio static, the whir of a fan or vacuum, or a noisy air conditioner. Brown Noise features low-frequency sounds and bypasses the high-frequency sounds. It’s deeper with more bass tone and less hiss than white noise. Brown noise includes sounds like rainfall or a shower with strong water pressure.

OFTEN, IT’S NOT THE NOISE ITSELF BUT RATHER THE SUDDEN CHANGE IN NOISE THAT’S LIKELY TO INTERRUPT YOUR SLUMBER. THAT’S WHERE WHITE AND BROWN NOISE CAN HELP.
