V A L U E T H E M E MO R I E S I was raised on a farm in Illinois and my husband was raised on a farm in Iowa. In the 1960’s, my parents operated a fruit and vegetable stand to earn extra money. I guess that’s where I inherited my love of retail (but now it’s about selling carats instead of carrots). My husband Dennis harvested watermelons by hand with his sisters. He didn’t much enjoy the back-breaking work, but that never stopped him. Even today he continues to grow a large garden and enjoys sharing fresh vegetables with staff and customers. As many gardeners can attest, it’s really the taste of fresh picked tomatoes that makes it all worthwhile. The last two years has taught all of us the value of family and slowing down to enjoy life. In my case, I often to retreat to my farm property just north of Kansas City to enjoy the quiet. We have a pond where my grandchildren are learning to fish, and a small creek provides idyllic scenery for hikes. I write this because as I get older, I find myself longing for the memories and activities from my younger years. I am fortunate to work alongside my family and many of our staff have been with me for over 30 years. I think this is one reason I love coming to work each day — every day reminds me of beautiful memories. I love having the opportunity to sell (and repair) jewelry that is so impactful and provides such timeless memories for people. Being able to help create memories with gifts of jewelry is such an honor and I thank each of you reading this for trusting us with this.

In preparing this magazine, we wanted to talk with some of the people that make Meierotto Jewelers truly special. We sat down with one of our salespersons to get the inside scoop. Q: Tell us about yourself. A: My name is Susie N. I have worked at Meierotto Jewelers for 29 years. I absolutely love the interactions with our customers and being able to use my knowledge and experience to help people with jewelry. And working for a family business like Meierotto’s is a wonderful experience. I know that I have the full support of the owners and our team. Everyone works together to ensure that our customers have the best experience possible.

Q: What are your hobbies? A: Chiefs. I love the Chiefs. Sometimes Red Fridays get out of control because I wear a lot of colorful and Chiefs themed jewelry. Q: Is there any particular jewelry story that stands out? A: There are many, but one customer came in and was very, very nervous. He had never shopped for jewelry before and wasn’t sure where to start. I took the time to understand his needs and educate him about diamonds. We talked a bit about his girlfriend and how they met. After about an hour he found the perfect ring and said that after our talk he knew that he was making the correct decision – both about the girl and the ring. That made me feel really good about what I do.

Q: Are you a dog person or a cat person? A: Dogs for sure! I have a four pound Yorkie and a Maltepoo. Q: What else can you say about why Meierotto Jewelers is unique? A: There are several salespeople that have worked here over 25 years, including me. And the family members are on-site every day and really work as hard as anyone else. That type of commitment and group experience is extremely rare. In addition, the store has one of the largest selections of jewelry and diamonds in the entire country -it’s truly amazing. Having these resources at my disposal makes my job much easier. Because I never have had to tell someone, “we don’t have that”.

stronger. Finally returning to Marquette, Rachel and Mitch spent Rachel’s senior year and Mitch’s junior year together. They attended basketball games, sorority and fraternity formals, and enjoyed Milwaukee until Rachel graduated and moved to Chicago to start her career in advertising. The time in Barcelona was just a taste of the long distance journey on which the couple was about to embark. For three years, the pair switched off taking the 90 mile track from Milwaukee to Chicago and back. In May 2020, Mitch accepted a full-time engineering job in Chicago. Although the pandemic had hit by the time Mitch moved, he and Rachel were so happy to finally be in the same city again. They got to enjoy their first Chicago summer together and in September of 2020 the couple added a new member to their family, a puppy named Scooter. In November 2020, after selecting the ideal ring for Rachel at Meierottos, Mitch proposed on the Clark Street Bridge over the Chicago River, with their new puppy by his side. They are set to be married in February 2022. We are so honored to have played a small part in their tremendous love story and congratulate Mitch and Rachel on their engagement and upcoming wedding.

In September 2014, in Abbottsford Hall, Mitch Morrison, a Marquette University freshman from Kansas City was looking to get involved in his dorm. Mitch decided to join the hall Council. At that time, Rachel Krisco, a sophomore, worked as the dorm’s secretary. Her job consisted mainly of assisting hall council members, like Mitch. Each week, Mitch would create agendas for his meetings and Rachel would print them. While the agenda printing only lasted three weeks, Mitch continued to find excuses to visit Rachel in her office. Their friendship grew throughout 2014 and so did Mitch‘s crush on Rachel. Mitch asked Rachel out in September of 2015, almost a year after they first met. It also happened to be only three months before Rachel would leave for her semester abroad, in Barcelona. Although the physical distance was tough, their relationship continue to grow

Adam and Victoria have such a tremendous love story. Despite growing up only a mile apart from each other, they didn’t meet until they were on a vacation with friends, as adults. At this time, Adam and Victoria had both graduated college. Victoria was living in Dallas while Adam lived in Kansas City. They began a long distance relationship and fortunately Adam later moved to Dallas. When it came time to pick out a ring for the proposal, Adam asked his grandmother for advice on where to shop. She suggested he go to Meierottos. We were so honored to assist Adam in picking out Victoria‘s dream ring. The happy couple married on October 2 of 2021. On behalf of our Meierotto family, we would like to congratulate Adam and Victoria on their wedding.

Joel, a Canadian born CrossFit trainer, and Hannah, an executive assistant, are both full-time missionaries for the organization Youth with a Mission. Because of their vocation, their love story is one that has been interwoven around the globe. The couple first met in Kona, Hawaii and started dating in Potchefstroom, South Africa. They got engaged at Jacob L. Loose Park, and married at Union 828 in Kansas City, Missouri. As a little girl, Hannah had always hoped to hand select her engagement setting and diamond. Our sales executive, Lance, delivered a personalized experience of Hannah’s dreams. “He made us feel like family, never rushed us in the process and helped find creative solutions. Phillip Mathis and Bridget Hardy both have a deep love for the Green Bay Packers. That love for the Packers is just one of the many special interests that these two share with each other. Earlier this year, Phillip entrusted Meierotto’s with helping him select the right engagement ring for the love of his life. After Phillip selected the ring, he purchased a private stadium tour of Lambeau Field, the home of the Packers. While touring the stadium with their family, Phillip got down on one knee and proposed to Bridget. Of course, she said yes! MYLES & ABBY

Myles and Abby Copeland have a classic love story. They met for the first time in 2014, when they attended Kansas State University. Myles was a football player while Abby was a cheerleader. From the moment they met, they shared a connection that they couldn’t quite explain. The more time they spent together, the more they realized they were made for each other. After graduating college, the two continued their relationship despite the long distance between them. Eventually, the two were brought together in Kansas City through their careers. In August of 2019, Myles and Abby decided to try on engagement rings. They came to Meierotto Jewelers to see if they could find the ideal ring for Abby. Nine months later, Myles proposed to Abby with the ring of her dreams. The two married on June 26, 2021. We would like to congratulate them on their marriage!

Trey Rabbass and Natalie Dirks met each other through mutual friends at Missouri State University. While they immediately felt a connection, Natalie wanted to hold off on dating because she was about to study abroad in Italy. During her time in Italy, Natalie FaceTimed with Trey every day and the spark between them grew despite being an ocean apart. When Natalie returned, her and Trey began dating and their love flourished. Early in 2020, Natalie and Trey visited Meierottos and started looking at engagement rings. Later, Trey purchased the ring Natalie loved, and proposed in August 2020. The happy couple is planning their wedding for September 2022 when they can celebrate with their friends and family. Cannon Kern and McKenna Coatney met each other when they were at the University of Arkansas. Cannon said that the moment he first laid eyes on McKenna he knew there was something special about her. Their first date was at a small pizza place in Fayetteville, and that is where their relationship took off. Cannon said that McKenna’s admiration for the little things in life is one of the attributes he loves the most about her. It didn’t take him long to realize she was the one. After dating for sometime, Cannon began to do research on engagement rings.While discussing it withMcKenna’s family, they unanimously agreed that he should go to Meierotto Jewelers. While picking a ring can seem like a daunting task, Cannon was able to find a beautiful ring for McKenna with the help of our dedicated sales team. Cody Nichols and Caitlin Dotson met five years ago when Caitlin moved from Nashville to Kansas City. After initially being set up by friends, the couple began dating following a brief period of Cody trying to play it cool.A year later, the couple bought a house together in Kansas City. Meierottos was recommended by their friends and family for their engagement ring.With such good reviews from their inner circle, they didn’t consider any other jeweler. Our team at Meierotto Jewelers was able to assist Caitlin with the ring of her dreams. On a trip to Louisville, Cody proposed to Caitlin, and also gave her a beautiful baguette diamond wedding band. The couple later returned to Meierottos and picked out Cody‘s wedding band as well. Although the pandemic scrapped their original wedding plans, the happy couple had a beautiful ceremony in Kentucky on June 4th, 2021. While their wedding took place in Kentucky, both Caitlin and Cody hold North Kansas City in high regards, as well as Meierotto Jewelers. “The community of North Kansas City will always have a special place in our hearts. Connor Bickford and Grace Horvat first met when they were in high school. They began dating during their senior year and the romance continued through college. From the moment Connor met Grace, he knew that she was the one for him. After college, the two moved around before settling back in Kansas City. They started talking about their engagement and a Meierotto’s billboard caught their attention. They came in to look at rings and found the most stunning one for Grace. When they were on vacation in Florida, Connor popped the question. They are planning a wedding for November 2022. Jordan Blake and PaigeAlbert met each other in the summer of 2015. Jordan had just moved to Lawrence while Paige was attending the University of Kansas. After going on a couple of dates, Jordan officially asked Paige to be his girlfriend at Late Night in the Phog, at KU. Over the next few years, the couple did a lot of growing together and even bought a puppy. During this time, Jordan decided he wanted to propose to Paige. He selected Meierotto Jewelers and found a ring which was exactly what he wanted for his wife to be. On Christmas 2020, Jordan got down on one knee and proposed to Paige in front of their family and their puppy. They will be tying the knot on December 3, 2021. Austin Embrey knew there was something special about Amber McKinney when they first met. This happy couple fell fast in love. Austin says that you can equate his relationship with Amber to a line from Lizzie McGuire’s song: “This is what dreams are made of.” One of Amber‘s favorite songs growing up was the same Lizzie McGuire song and it bonded the two together. They loved singing it together, because living their lives together truly felt like a dream. When Austin knew that he wanted Amber to be his forever, he contacted Meierottos to pick out the right diamond and setting. After he had the ring, he set his plan for a proposal. Austin had a local saxophone player play the song that bonded the two together while they were walking on the Country Club Plaza. When Amber heard the song playing, she knew something special was coming. Austin got down on one knee there and proposed. Of course, Amber said yes! One of the things we pride ourselves in at Meierotto’s is the relationships we build with our customers. The relationships we form entrusts our customers with referring us to their friends and family for their jewelry needs. This was the case in how we met Kellan and Tori Horner. When Kellan and Tori could sense that their relationship was inching closer to a proposal, they decided to do a little research on engagement rings. Tori’s childhood best friend, Natalie Derks, had shopped with Meierotto’s to purchase her engagement ring. She assured Tori that she would be happy if she decided to shop here as well. We met Tori along with her mom and her sister who helped determine her ring style. Once a design was chosen, Kellan returned to purchase Tori’s dream ring. A couple of months after that purchase was made, Kellan proposed to Tori on top of a beautiful mountain in Colorado. While many couples like to take their time after getting engaged, Kellan and Tori had to move quickly towards their wedding. Tori’s mother, Ann Thomas, was admitted to hospice care shortly after the engagement. Ann had been dealing with aggressive breast cancer and was not given much time by her doctors. Tori desperately wanted her mother to be a part of her special day. With that, the

couple planned a wedding in two weeks. Our sales member Emily worked with Kellan and Tori to make sure that they had their wedding bands of choice in plenty of time for the ceremony. In the end, the couple was able to

have a wonderful ceremony with their immediate family. Tori’s mother was able to give a toast at the wedding and even signed their wedding certificate. Ann unfortunately passed away shortly after their ceremony. Her being a part of Kellan and Tori’s special day makes it even more memorable. We are so honored to have assisted these incredible families with their engagement and wedding. Congratulations to Kellan and Tori and best wishes to you and your families.

Everything about Joe Harvey and Kathy Minor is distinctive. Their charm and style can be gleaned from their taste in jewelry, especially the custom pieces they have designed for each other. We first met Joe and Kathy in their search for the perfect engagement ring. Our sales executive, Holly knew immediately they would get along well. With their obvious adoration for each other and unique tastes, she sensed they were going to be on her list of favorite people. Kathy tried on a multitude of traditional wedding rings, though something wasn’t quite right. “She wanted a ring that suited her active lifestyle and distinctive taste,” Holly said. Holly showed them our Todd Reed collection, a designer from Colorado who specializes in exclusive jewelry that incorporates raw diamonds and recycled metals. Kathy fell in love with an Asscher cut diamond, rather than the colored diamonds typically found in this collection. Todd Reed created a one-of-a-kind bezel set ring with a two-tone patina that Kathy absolutely loved. Joe’s band is also a custom piece by Todd Reed. Kathy made sure the design reflected the rugged, masculine look Joe truly appreciated. “Our extensive inventory of jewelry and diamonds allow us to create just about anything. Joe’s special proposal took place underneath a tree in their favorite park on his custom built Harley Davidson motorcycle. Since then, Holly has assisted Joe and Kathy in surprising each other with jewelry for birthdays and anniversaries. Will Valentine and Ashley Rhinehart have quite the story. They first came to know each other while in high school. The two began to grow close as they were both in band and started learning that they had quite a few other things in common. During their sophomore year of high school, Will and Ashley began dating and they haven’t looked back. After graduating high school, they continued to date in college, attending Wichita State University. One of the things that bonds Will and Ashley is their love of flight. Aviation is a major part of both of their lives, and Will wanted to make this a part of his proposal. When Will decided that he was going to propose, he selected Meierotto Jewelers to select a stunning ring for Ashley. After he picked out the ring, he started setting the stage for his grand proposal. On a windy afternoon, Will set a flight plan that would take the two of them all over Kansas City.While they were in the air, over Arrowhead Stadium, he asked Ashley to be his wife. Now, the couple is currently planning their dreamwedding, which they are hoping take place in the spring of 2022. We would like to congratulateWill and Ashley on their engagement and their upcoming wedding!

Madeline Brendan & engaging couples

Brendan Butler and Madeline Russell first met when they attended Rockhurst University. While there, Brendan moved in with a group which included one of Madeline‘s best friends. From there, the two began to get to know each other better. They began dating in December 2018. After graduating, Madeline moved toOmaha,Nebraska for her career. Shemaintained a long distance relationship with Brendan, although luckily, after some time, she made her way back to the Kansas City area and the two began building their life together. Madeline remembers fondly back to college when their mutual friends hosted a murder mystery party. During that party, Brendan‘s character proposed to Madeline’s. Since that moment, Madeline had been waiting to hear Brendan say those words again. Brendan also knew he wanted to propose to Madeline and when the time came, he selected Meierotto Jewelers to be the place where he would choose the ideal ring. On May 6, 2021, Madeline‘s wish came true and Brendan proposed to her at Union Station in Kansas City with a marquee backdrop that spelled out “Marry Me”. The two are set to be married in September 2022 in Wisconsin. We are so happy that we got to play a role in this love story and we congratulate the happy couple on their upcoming wedding.

For Mr. Voeu Heng some things are worth waiting for — even if it takes 84 years. Mr. Heng and his family emigrated to the United States from Cambodia in 1981. He fled the Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia with his wife and five children. His family lost their entire life savings and status. The family settled in Jefferson City, where he said there were very few Cambodians at the time, and his family had no money and few possessions. He obtained a job working for Sam Cook at Central Bank. He did anything he could to help out, including yard work, serving, cooking, cleaning, and driving. Mr. Heng retired from Central Bank in 2010. Throughout his life, Mr. Heng admired Rolex watches and it became his lifelong dream to one day own one. In 2008, prior to his wife’s passing, she told her husband to buy the watch he always wanted. But Mr. Heng was too focused on saving money and providing for his family. However, he never forgot about the watch. In 2021, at 84 years of age, Mr. Heng had saved enough money to finally purchase a Rolex timepiece. LIFETIME Dreamof a

Moriah Brett &

Brett Baker and Moriah Hillson have a bit of a modern love story. The two of them met through the dating app Tinder. After swiping right, the two of them met up for their first date at Friends Sushi. From the moment they met each other, there was a connection that they couldn’t explain. A year after meeting each other, they were living together and living their best life. Brett and Moriah knew that marriage wasn’t far off. Moriah knew exactly where she wanted to get her ring. There was only one jeweler she would consider and that was Meierotto Jewelers. Brett took Moriah to Meierottos and the two began looking at rings. They found one that was perfect and Brett looked at Moriah and said, “I want to marry you. Our love is timeless and I want to get something timeless that’s meaningful to you.” In our showroom, the two decided to get married. While an official proposal was made a few months later, we got to share that special moment with the happy couple. Brett and Moriah will be married on June 10th, 2022. Moriah said, “Meierottos has been a special place to my family for generations. It started with my great- aunt, Hazel, and continued through generations with my grandfather, grandmother, my mom, and now us. On our wedding day, I will be wearing a set of custom earrings made from the stones of my great-aunt’s ring that my grandfather commissioned from Meierottos as a gift to my grandmother. My grandfather then gifted them to me in 2013. He has since passed away, so this is my way of having him with me as I walk me down the aisle.”

Kyle and Lindsey Schwartz have a love story for the ages. Firstly, all of us at Meierotto Jewelers want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Kyle for his service to our country in the United States Army. We recognize and appreciate the sacrifices that all military members, their spouses, and families make daily. Mutual friends of Kyle and Lindsey set them up on a date and immediately they developed a connection. After several more dates their chemistry was undeniable, and they realized they had found someone with whom to share the rest of their life. The military has a reputation for being unpredictable, and it’s service men and women often find themselves learning to adapt to situations that are not necessarily easy. Kyle was no different. Although this news provided its own set of challenges for the new couple, it also reassured them of what they already knew to be true. They could not bear to live without each other, especially on opposite sides of the world. Kyle knew it was time to look for a representation of his love and commitment to Lindsey and reached out to us. After being paired with one of our sales executives, Holly, we quickly learned this would not be the average engagement ring purchase. Luckily, with today’s technology, Holly was able to create a unique ring buying experience for Kyle overseas. She was able to give him the opportunity to view many options with high quality photos and videos sent via texts, emails and phone calls. Although Kyle was thousands of miles from our store in the heart of the United States, Holly was able to make finding the most spectacular engagement ring as easy as falling in love with Lindsey. It is not often that we get the chance to be a part of this wonderful moment in someone’s life from oceans away, and we cannot thank Kyle enough for choosing us.We wish this beautiful couple safety in their travels and service to our country, and endless happiness and love in their marriage.

HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

Carol and Dennis Meierotto grew up in farming communities in Illinois and Iowa, respectively. They moved to Kansas City for work opportunities in 1967. Dennis worked at a local packaging company and Carol was a public school teacher. Dennis’ hobby was collecting gold and silver coins. In fact, their first store was named Midwest Coin Exchange and didn’t sell any jewelry, at first. Soon after opening, customers began asking for jewelry — diamonds, gold chains, and rings. Carol didn’t know anything about jewelry, but she was stubborn and willing to learn in an industry that at that time was dominated by men. She learned herself, but also took the time to educate others about jewelry and what they were buying.Word began to spread of their honesty, fair prices, and simple approach to selling jewelry. Their business grew, and grew.

Since moving to the current location in 2017, business has been good. The timing of moving to a new location was perfect. A larger store has been ideal for social distancing and allows us to showcase our huge selection of jewelry, diamonds, and watches. In 2021, Meierotto Jewelers was voted Best jeweler in Ingrams Magazine, Best Jewelry store in KC Magazine and also Best Jewelry Store/Best Wedding Jeweler in The Pitch Magazine. We are honored by the tremendous community support. After 42 years in business, Dennis and Carol still come to work nearly every day. They love what they do and it shows in the people they surround themselves with, the quality of the products they offer, and the relationships they have developed over the years.
