“J ewelry should strive to be art,” says Yehouda Saketkhou, founder and chief designer at YAEL Designs, who began his entrepreneurial journey as a young boy growing up in Paris. Well known for creating award-winning collections of fine jewelry and one-of-a-kind pieces, Yehouda draws inspiration from nature, architecture, and art, as well as his faraway travels to the four corners of the world. The latest collection is Tesserae, the result of a collaboration between Yehouda and another of YAEL Designs’ talented designers, Carolyn Simon, who shares his appreciation for art and nature. The new pieces are highlighted by a grouping of colorful gemstones set in gold and accented with diamonds. “We were inspired by the way color and light play together in stained glass,” explains Yehodua. “We wanted to create our own gemstone mosaic of color and light.” The pieces in the collection are dotted with the glorious, rich colors of sapphire, ruby, fire opal, blue topaz, and amethyst, which combine to create remarkable rings, earrings, necklaces, and bangles that explore color with fun and unique combinations.
