STORE EVENT
Shimmering in SARASOTA
I n the thriving heart of Sarasota, a city as vibrant as the gemstones we showcase, we’re thrilled to announce that we have opened our newest International Diamond Center (IDC) location at 6580 University Parkway. This store marks our 11th store in the Sunshine State, and we couldn’t be more excited to become a part of this incredible community in Lakewood Ranch. Since our inception in 1983 as a wholesale jeweler, we’ve evolved into a family-owned and operated business. Our journey has led us to create 12 unique showrooms, each reflecting our commitment to luxury, craftsmanship, and most importantly, community. While we’re proud to feature renowned designers like Verragio, Tacori, and Simon G, our dedication to the local community is what truly sets us apart. In that spirit, we’ve already contributed a portion of our grand opening event proceeds to the Boys & Girls Club of Sarasota and DeSoto Counties. Situated in a location known for its rich culture and booming growth, our Sarasota showroom offers something extraordinary. Whether you’re searching for the perfect diamond engagement ring, a bespoke jewelry design, or a pre-owned Rolex watch, our experienced team is here to assist you.
“MY FAMILY AND I HAVE WANTED TO BE IN THE SARASOTA AREA FOR YEARS,”
explains Brian Stamey, IDC vice president. “Some of our earliest clients live in this beautiful area and now we will be able to provide them with the IDC service right in their own backyard. We are proud and elated to be here and we thank the amazing community for such a warm welcome.” From Savannah to Orlando, Gainesville to Naples, and everywhere in between, IDC is firmly rooted in the luxury jewelry landscape no matter where you choose to shop with us. And it’s Sarasota—within the Lakewood Ranch area — that serves as the perfect backdrop for our latest venture.

It’s an interesting journey traveling to Alys Beach from just about anywhere in the country. Perhaps that helps make this destination all the more special. A flight might take you through Atlanta and then onto Panama City. From there a 30 minute drive will bring you to a paradise designed to facilitate a rewind and refresh. The original vision of Alys Beach included Moorish and Mediterranean flairs, with architectural styles founded in the beauty of Bermuda and with courtyards inspired by homes in Antigua, Guatemala. A combination and experience you will have to see to believe. To be a part of the Alys Beach community — as a resident or vacationer — is to become one with a life defined by excellence and beauty. Every piece of this vibrant, coastal, New Urbanist community has been built with intention, from the master design of the town to the detail in each doorway. The place is reminiscent of the world’s most beloved seaside towns. Alys Beach can trace its modern history to the 1970s, when the Stephens family purchased the property at auction. They had been vacationing in the area for years,
and the spur-of-the-moment purchase was intended to provide a retreat for the family and their employees. Smart man that he was, patriarch Elton Stephens named the paradise after his beloved, Alys. All of Alys Beach’s 158 acres are within a short and pleasant walk of the coast, and walkability was the intent, with easy access to the town center’s many shops and restaurants.
is defined, but if you haven’t
heard of it until now, you are not alone. Alys is beyond a respite or a retreat. The word “vacation” simply does not do it justice. With brilliant beaches, warm water, and lush vegetation, this tiny
swath of land creates an experience like none other. Dazzlingly beautiful white buildings fill the horizon, lined by pristine sands and azure waters. This is a place of dreams.

Reserve a dreamy rental property with multiple rooms, a full kitchen, a gated courtyard, and maybe even its own pool. The Alys Beach website offers up numerous options for rent in a beautifully- designed and easy-to-navigate online interface. If you want to keep your fitness track while at your home- away-from-home or if you’re looking to retreat to a space that’s nourishing for both your mind and body, head to the ZUMA Wellness Center. Ever in pursuit of beauty, community, and wellness, Alys Beach is proud to offer ZUMA, a place for fitness, restoration, and an elegant spirit of balance. ZUMA provides cutting-edge fitness classes, including yoga, spin, and suspension training, as well as a quiet outdoor space, steam rooms, massage therapy, strength training, and an indoor swimming pool designed for swimming laps, aquatic programming, and instruction. DINING From contemporary American cuisine to creative, comfortable coastal fare, Alys offers a wide variety of delicious dining options. Head to Caliza Restaurant for a globally-sourced tasting menu served in poolside cabanas or Raw & Juicy for something fresh and healthy, like cold-pressed juices, smoothies, and acai bowls.
George’s at Alys Beach is a little more upscale, but not stuffy, and is a great place to grab a drink and a salad or seafood dish while sitting back and enjoying the ocean breeze. And then there’s Neat, the beautiful and artfully- curated bottle shop and tasting room that’ll suck you in for hours, whether it’s for wine and cheese or unique craft cocktails. CALIZA POOL An exotic oasis sits regally at the town’s edge, whose cool waters and shaded loggias refresh the body and spirit. Caliza is a refuge designed to welcome and embrace and inspire all who enter. ROSEMARY BEACH A couple miles south is must-see Rosemary Beach. The quaint brick sidewalks on Main Street and throughout the town square are evidence of the creativity and extra investment dedicated to making Rosemary something special. Locally-owned shops and boutiques add to the charm, and amazing meals at Edward’s, Cowgirl Kitchen, Wild Olives, or The Summer Kitchen Café, plus dessert at La Crema are experiences not to be missed.

DIAMONDS
with purpose IDC’S INCREDIBLE EXCURSION TO THE ETHICAL DIAMOND MINES OF AFRICA.
F or IDC, our commitment to ensuring that every diamond is ethically sourced reflects a deep-rooted ethos within our company. Last August, IDC’s Vice President of Wholesale Operations, Brian Leclerc and Vice President of Operations & Marketing, Brian Stamey embarked on a transformative journey alongside Grandview Klein Diamond Group and other U.S. jewelers. Their destination? The heart of diamond mining in Africa — Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa. Here, the entire group saw firsthand the intricate mining process and how diamond mining in the region uplifts the communities. “This trip brought to life not only how rare diamonds are but how the process works,” explains Stamey. “It gave me a satisfying feeling knowing the business we’re in is not only helping people find joy and love in those special moments, but it’s also helping the people in countries in Africa to elevate and provide for themselves.” Namibia, where diamonds have become the economic linchpin, has witnessed profound transformations over the years. One of those is the Benguela Gem, operating tirelessly just off the coast as one of the world’s largest marine mining operations, accounting for nearly 70% of the diamonds mined in the area. “Seeing the marine mining operation firsthand and witnessing the meticulous care that is taken to ensure that they’re not disturbing the environment that the diamonds come from or the marine life around it was fascinating,” Stamey recalls.
30 IDC MAGAZINE
As part of the trip, the group also witnessed the importance of such a collaborative relationship between diamond mining operations and local communities. On a special leg of the trip, all the jewelers stood beside Grandview Klein as three state-of-the-art dialysis machines were donated to the Grandview Klein Diamond Dialysis Center located in Windhoek’s underserved region. Today, the center serves roughly five to six dialysis patients per day — something unheard of before the donation. The group also made a pit stop in Johannesburg, where they interacted with children from the Kliptown Youth Center — an educational center founded by Kliptown residents. In a community fighting to secure basic necessities, the center is a beacon of empowerment, providing children with tutoring, athletics, and arts programs. Back home, Stamey explains the efforts IDC will continue to make to help the communities where every diamond begins its journey. “Our ultimate goal is to sponsor an IDC school over there through our 5th C Foundation, using a portion of our diamond sale proceeds,” he states. IDC’s journey to the African diamond mines was more than an educational trip. It affirmed our dedication to transparency, ethics, and community upliftment. So, when you shop with IDC, feel confident knowing every diamond carries a story of integrity, care, and a promise of betterment for all involved.

M ultiple ear piercings have taken center stage, breaking the boundaries of traditional earring styling. With a push to make jewelry as a whole feel more personal, ears are getting more creative and more dressed up than ever. A-listers from Rihanna to Harry Styles have been sporting multiple earrings in various combinations, setting a new standard for how people approach their ear adornment. Ultimately, it seems, the sentiment is that more is better. Jewelry designers have taken note, offering styles from hoops to studs that have subtle differences in size, color, and weight, with
daintier options available for effortless combinations. Some brands are offering adaptable earrings that can be further customized with charms, chains, and stones. And for those who feel overwhelmed at the prospect of styling multiple piercings and rings, designers have taken out the guesswork with pre-curated sets or single styles that give the illusion of multiple pieces (several intertwined hoops, for example, on a single post). The multi-earring movement is not just about jewelry; it is a celebration of individuality and a testament to the ever-evolving nature of fashion. The only rule? There are no rules.

enchanting emeralds
T he emerald is one of the most storied gemstones in history. For thousands of years, it has been cherished for its gorgeous rich green color and its association with good fortune. One thing is for sure, it adds a rich beauty to any ensemble. In the top quality range, fine emeralds are more valuable than diamonds, but there are plenty of smaller, more affordable emeralds out there, set into jewelry that is perfect for everyday wear. Mixed with pearls — which are huge at the moment — or other colored gemstones, emeralds make an elegant, eye-catching fashion statement. Surprisingly, the gem is also growing in popularity as an exotic alternative to diamonds in engagement rings — an expression of new beginnings. The deep green color of emeralds has carved a presence in everything from runway fashions to home decor. The gem’s color is at its best when it is given an “emerald” cut, a rectangular or square cut with beveled corners, which emphasizes the richness of color by leading the eye into it rather than deflecting attention away from it. It can also be cut into gently rounded cabochons or beads. For everyday wear, emeralds are abundantly available, and because they have a good hardness of 7.5 to 8 on the Moh’s scale, they are tough enough to wear in rings or bracelets — ready to add a touch of elegance to your stack or as standalone beauties.

Do you feel blessed, surrounded by goodness and peace in your own personal environment? Do you feel content and at peace with your surroundings? Or are there a number of undone things that you keep putting off? Even today, we refer to beautiful, peaceful places as Edens. Part of that peace and contentment comes from your internal attitudes, but a portion comes from your atmosphere. So how do you create your own piece of Eden? My husband gets aggravated at stuff : traffic, people, tools, his computer, the remote control... In a very real sense, he practices being angry and upset. None of those things are purposely trying to upset him, but he allows them to. He forgets to pursue peace. It is possible, however, to take control of negative emotions and tell yourself, “No, I seek peace. I will not allow myself to get upset.”
Y ou know how it is; the demands of life, work, family, and commitments crowd out other things that need done but aren’t urgent. Finally, you realize you just can’t stand it — you can’t keep putting things off into the “I’ll get to it sometime” category. That’s often where we relegate housework and other tedious chores. Here’s the problem: your surroundings impact your peace of mind. Your work and living spaces do not just reflect your attitude, they influence it. Cluttered spaces lead to edgy, unsettled feelings.
Look inside. Here’s a revelation: you are at the center of your personal environment. Focus on your blessings and banish all those negative emotions. Look around. Does what you see bless you? Does it make you smile or feel hugged? Or do all the things blend together into clutter and chaos? Clutter is an outward sign of inward turmoil (plus an out-of- control schedule). How much of what you have, do you really need? What if you down-sized, reorganized, and eliminated some of the clutter. Think about it. Don’t you feel better after you’ve cleaned house? Doesn’t the fresh smell and visual appearance make you smile?
Look out. The things you are committed to affect your environment. For instance, I’m on several committees of various organizations. Each of them involves meetings, documents, to-do lists, and, sometimes, personality conflicts. It’s easy to let your calendar get so cluttered with other people’s projects that you no longer have me time — peace time. Here’s a hint: if what you’re doing no longer inspires you, it might be time to get out. Maybe it’s time to evaluate the blessing-versus-stress quotient of that particular commitment. Maybe it’s time to let go.

“ALCHEMY IS THE PROCESS OF CHANGING LEAD INTO GOLD. INNER ALCHEMY (PERSONAL TRANSFORMATION) OCCURS WHEN WE CLEAR OUR CLUTTER — INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL — AND LET GO OF THINGS THAT NO LONGER SERVE US WELL. THIS CREATES BALANCE AND SPACE, A PLACE THAT NURTURES CONTENTMENT, WHICH I BELIEVE IS TRUE SUCCESS.”
LAURIE BUCHANAN
Look over. Walk into your home or office and look it over as if you were a stranger. Pretend you’ve not seen it before. What would you change? Rearrange the furniture. Add some ambient lighting. Put a new picture on the wall. Do something that makes your heart say, “Wow!” when you walk into the space. Never underestimate the power of the wow factor. It’s an inner contentment that says, “This is beautiful. I’m comfortable here. This is my Eden. I want to spend time in this space.” Hubby and I donate to several charities. One of them is Habitat for Humanity. Why? Because I think everyone should have and enjoy their home as much as we do ours. Home is haven — a personal Eden. I try to maintain an atmosphere of peace and blessing, a comfortable place where I want to come home and friends want to visit.
Look In. Ultimately, your personal environment and your personal peace are an inside job. Your decisions, or lack of them, moment by moment, create your life and environment. You can choose to sit on the couch or get up and do the dishes. You can ignore the clutter on the dining room table or make a decision to clear up the mess — and then keep it cleaned up! Take responsibility for the things that you do and shouldn’t or the things you don’t do and should. I like playing games on my tablet. It’s relaxing, and it drowns out the clamor of worries and responsibilities. Problem? I can spend hours playing solitaire and then realize that I really wanted to do the laundry and clean up the kitchen. My selfish choice now means I’ll have a dirty kitchen to look at when I get up in the morning and no clean socks! With no one to blame but myself.
Your personal environment and your peace of mind are a direct result of your choices and actions. Look at your attitude and let go of worry and turmoil. Look around and make changes that are consistent with peace and contentment. Eliminate clutter in your environment and on your calendar.

THE SYLVIE SHELL
ELEGANCE EMBODIED IN DESIGN
E ngagement ring and jewelry designer, Sylvie, has created a concept that adds another layer of significance to the world’s most enduring symbol of love and commitment. The company’s signature Sylvie Shell design is created by seamlessly connecting the ring’s shank to the setting that surrounds the diamond, representing two souls forming an eternal bond together as one. The unique shell shape created in the negative space inside the ring’s shank recalls Sandro Botticelli’s Birth of Venus, a painting depicting the arrival of Venus, goddess of love and beauty. The glow of intense light radiating from the shell in Botticelli’s painting is repeated in the shower of light radiating from the ring’s center diamond. The Sylvie Shell collection celebrates every bride standing on the cusp of a new phase of her life, one that is full of promise and hope. It is a daily reminder of the strength, energy, and positivity that radiates light to every corner of their lives.

An engagement ring in a modern design is an opportunity to use various metals or colors that can reveal your individual style. Mixed metals give rings a certain type of flair that can be realized in a single ring or by choosing different metals for each of your rings that you wear in a stacking style. Alternatively, add color through your center stone, accents or even your band, and show the world you do things your own way. The possibilities are endless.
most charming
Selecting an engagement ring and staying true to your values and family heritage is a popular choice for today’s modern brides. Choose an estate engagement ring — it honors the concept of recycling and proves what’s old is new again. Or mix it up: choose your favorite modern setting and set it with an antique rose-cut, family heirloom or vintage European diamond.

GIVING BACK
BY JENNIFER BRUGH
SHINING BEYOND THE SHOWCASE IDC’S DEDICATION TO GIVING BACK IN OUR BACKYARDS
I n the vast expanse of the diamond business, it’s not often the sparkle of gemstones is overshadowed by a shine of a different kind. But at International Diamond Center, the glow of community spirit and selfless giving radiates as brightly as any diamond in our showcases. At the heart and center of our business lies the Fifth C Foundation, a testament to the Leclerc family’s unwavering commitment to giving back. Throughout the years, the Fifth C Foundation has outlined four key pillars of support: veterans of war, childhood education, human trafficking, and pediatric oncology. Executive Director Helen Barrott emphasized the family’s personal touch in every act of giving. “It’s more than just writing checks,” she remarks. “Each family member is actively involved, hands-on, and even serves on the boards of the charities we support.” Every year, the foundation seeks to underscore its commitment to local charities, particularly those in the neighborhoods where IDC stores reside. By fostering connections with community-based organizations, the Fifth C
Foundation aims to make a tangible difference right in the backyards of the communities that have supported IDC over the years. “The Lord has blessed my family and our company,” says IDC President Keith Leclerc, “and we will always live by the motto, to whom much is given, much is expected.” With a new Sarasota location, IDC is excited to get involved with charities throughout the area. “My family and I are so excited to impact the Sarasota community. This area is so philanthropic and there are so many organizations that align with our passions,” says Ashley Stamey, IDC’s Director of Consumer Experience. As IDC continues to flourish in the diamond industry, its roots in community service and philanthropy run deep and strong. The Fifth C Foundation is not just an extension of the Leclerc family’s values; it’s a beacon of hope and an embodiment of the spirit of giving. As we look forward to the foundation’s future endeavors, one thing is clear: at IDC, diamonds might be forever, but so is our commitment to the communities where we live.

PICKLEBALL TAKING THE WORLD BY STORM
F rom YMCAs to driveways, from school playgrounds to country club courts, a new sport has emerged, and it’s captivating people of all ages and fitness levels. Pickleball, a hybrid of tennis, badminton, and ping pong, with its fast-paced action, easy accessibility, and addictive gameplay is taking the world by storm. What started as a niche backyard activity has now evolved into a juggernaut, attracting millions of enthusiasts worldwide. Pickleball’s origins can be traced back to the mid-1960s when it was invented by three dads on Bainbridge Island, Washington. Named after the family dog, Pickles, who would often chase the ball and run off with it, the sport quickly spread around their local community. Fast forward to today and pickleball has become a global phenomenon, played on dedicated courts, in community centers, and even at professional tournaments. One of the key factors contributing to pickleball’s exponential growth is its accessibility. Unlike some traditional sports, pickleball is easy to learn and can be played by people of all ages and athletic abilities. The court is smaller than a tennis court, and the lightweight paddles and plastic balls are more forgiving, making it less physically demanding on the body. This accessibility has made pickleball a popular choice for older adults looking to stay active and socialize.
