A t the turn of the 20th century, a visionary entrepreneur based in London was on the verge of success. His aim? To introduce the watchmaking world of the day to an as- yet-unknown dial signature: Rolex. A new name, invented in 1908, it would become one of the world’s most respected brands in the space of a few decades. As Hans Wilsdorf recounted in his memoirs of the early days of his company, the opposition he faced seemed insurmountable at first. The entrepreneur started out with very little, but he did possess invaluable qualities: vision, perseverance and an extraordinary ability to work. An orphan at the age of 12, with nothing other than his determination to help him overcome challenges, Hans Wilsdorf went on to invent the world’s first waterproof self-winding wristwatch with a Perpetual rotor — a watch that has become a benchmark in terms of quality and prestige. “Too complicated, too fragile, ill- adapted” — the wristwatch was met with skepticism. Yet, relying on his firmly held beliefs, Hans Wilsdorf managed to achieve his bold objective of establishing the Rolex watch — the Oyster Perpetual — as the archetype of the waterproof timepiece: precise, robust, and able to withstand all conditions. But he was not simply a visionary who endowed Rolex watches with their fundamental technical and aesthetic characteristics. His constant quest for perfection was accompanied by a profound generosity and unshakeable faith in human potential. The beaches are stunning and the mild Mediterranean climate is excellent for golf and vacationing. Perched on the westernmost coast of continental Europe, Portugal’s temperatures remain mild over the winter, and the climate delivers ideal temperatures in spring and fall. Summers can get a bit toasty, so plan accordingly. You basically don’t have to worry about a winter season, so most courses are open year-round .

Throw a dart at a map and you would be hard- pressed to find a better destination for a golfing excursion than Portugal. It’s been selected as the Best Golf Destination in Europe numerous times, including six years consecutively, as well as the Best Golf Destination in the World several times. Portugal offers a wide range of courses, more than 90 around the country, with features suitable for different levels of experience and budget. Lisbon, specifically, is a destination renowned for its charming old neighborhoods, vibrant architecture, historic trams, delectable cuisine, and rich history. Its proximity to several areas of protected nature and World
Heritage-designated and landscapes is a perfect companion to a golfing holiday or a few golf-focused days. The family can enjoy historic attractions in the nation’s capital region while you tackle Oitavos Dunes, ranked among the top golf courses in the world, known for its links-style design and Atlantic Ocean views. While many are familiar with the ubiquitous Aperol Spritz, cooler weather calls for a festive change of pace. Some say variety is the spice of life, and when it comes to the Lambrusco Spritz, its unique and flavorful profile proves that statement correct. The herbal notes of amaro shine through beautifully and are complemented by subtle hints of citrus and brine. The result is a deliciously balanced cocktail. One will want to use a dry Lambrusco, like the Cleto Chiarli Grasparossa di Castelvetro. Perfect for relaxing or entertaining nights, this is the must-have sip of the season. INGREDIENTS: • 1.5 ounces amaro • 0.5 ounce fresh grapefruit juice • 3-4 ounces dry Lambrusco • 1 ounce sparkling water • 1 grapefruit wedge (garnish) • 3 Castelvetrano olives (garnish) METHOD: Fill a glass with ice and pour over amaro, grapefruit juice, Lambrusco, sparkling water, and stir. Garnish with a grapefruit wedge, Castelvetrano olives, and enjoy!
