It all began with two talented brothers, Jack and Dominick Gabriel, who saw an unfeeling jewelry industry that needed new vision. As young apprentices to their father, master jeweler Elias Gabriel, they learned the exacting art and science of combining precious metals and stones to make a creation greater than either element alone. Committed to making their vision come true, the brothers followed in their father’s footsteps and formed Gabriel & Co. in 1989. With their talented team, they devoted themselves to the production of the finest quality jewelry and unparalleled service and built a creative and thriving business.

REDEFINES CLASSIC DESIGN DAVID YURMAN David Yurman is known for creating jewelry that is dramatic yet simple and organic. It moves with the body, it is proportioned for the body, and it makes a statement about the way jewelry can be used to reflect the beautiful forms that surround us in everyday life. The Starburst collection, with its dramatic bursts of light, is a perfect example of the designer’s ability to translate his talents as a sculptor, and the Helena collection is a celebration of the signature Cable motif from the 1980s.
The Starburst collection has romantic origins. The inspiration came about while David Yurman and his wife Sybil were watching fireworks illuminate the Paris night sky. The magical bursts of light showering the Eiffel Tower and Tuileries Gardens greatly moved the couple, inspiring David to create designs of brilliant star motifs. The collection explodes with bursts of gold and silver, accented with diamonds. Ethereal golden rays set with diamonds radiate out from the center as three-dimensional objects that seem to be in the midst of exploding.A Starburst bangle, earrings, or a pendant with stations of small motifs along the chain adds just the right touch of drama, conjuring images of fireworks, planets, or stars in the night sky.
16 ] A L B E R T ’ S D I A M O N D J E W E L E R S M A G A Z I N E
The Helena collection is more classic. It is a celebration of David Yurman’s signature motif, the woven gold Cable design that debuted in 1983 and has since become iconic. In this collection, golden threads punctuated with hand-set pavé diamonds wrap around the cable strands like ribbons, adding extra dimension and sparkle to the timeless design. Now offered in narrower, more petite silhouettes, each Helena piece is engineered to be light in weight yet crafted with the same artisanal quality as the original Cable bracelet created nearly 40 years ago. As with all of his designs, your body is the muse for this season’s David Yurman collections. They are created through the eyes of a sculptor, inspired by love, and meant to adorn you with all the care and craft that goes into a work of art.

your wardrobe? WHAT’S MISSING FROM JEWELRY STAPLES EVERY WARDROBE SHOULD HAVE. Eventually, however, we all return to earth, to the pieces that carry us gently through our everyday lives with grace and elegance and remind us of the importance of the basics. These are the classics. Classic jewelry is so-called because it stands the test of time. It forms the basis of any jewelry wardrobe. Here are some foundational pieces that represent the must-haves of any jewelry wardrobe. B uilding a jewelry collection is a personal journey of discovery that can lead to an eclectic mix of treasures: the carefully sourced power necklace for the time you hosted a charity ball, a deeply cherished one-of-a-kind ring that belonged to your mother, or that pair of over-the-top tassel earrings that just graze your shoulder.

PERFECT PEARLS
Pearls have a universal appeal that suits any occasion or level of formality. The variety of types, colors, sizes, and applications make them one of the most versatile gemstones available, easily applied to any jewelry trend or price point. Whether you love the organic look of baroques and freshwaters or the sleek perfection of top-quality Akoyas, there is a pearl for you. Whether you’re dressing up or down, there is a lustrous pearl creation for every event. The only thing you need to consider when choosing a piece for the occasion at hand is your own sense of personal style. There are no rules. Dressing up may bring to mind evening gowns, party dresses, and tailored Chanel suits, but that doesn’t mean they should be paired with stuffy
strands or formal necklaces. And vice versa, formal strands of fine pearls
are not strictly for dressed-up outfits. Pair them with a biker jacket or a cool summer sundress.

SPECTACULAR from PETITE to ROBERTO COIN CREATES SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE THIS SEASON
W
hen Roberto Coin began to design and produce jewelry in 1977 on behalf of
some of the most prestigious international brands of fine jewelry, he found himself quickly becoming one of the most sought-after designers in the business. He eventually launched his own brand in 1996 and has never looked back. Coin’s quirky yet elegant style, combined with the highest standards of craftsmanship, not to mention his winning personality and warmth, have brought him loyal admirers from around the world. One of his strengths is the breadth of his collections. He has made a commitment to designing hundreds of new pieces every year, a testament to the strength and longevity of his creative drive. Whether building on existing collections and familiar motifs or blowing us away with something utterly unique, Roberto’s sense of what women want to accessorize with is spot on. This year he offers a bit of everything.

When Roberto Coin launched his brand in the United States in 1996, Opera was one of the first collections he introduced. It was inspired by the maestros of Italian opera …Verdi, Puccini, Rossini … and likewise transforms emotion into art. The soaring arias that sopranos and tenors sing on stage find their precious equivalent in the flexible bracelets, band rings, and hoop earrings of today’s Royal Opera revival collection. It features two Roberto Coin hallmarks: braided gold texture and pin-and-peg flexible construction, resulting in pieces that are designed to move with your body.
18k Yellow Gold Operal Doorknocker Diamond Earrings, $2,900.
Many of his collections are inspired by Italian architecture, particularly that of Venice. The Venetian Princess collection reinterprets the four-petal rosetta motif of the windows at the Palazzo Ducale in St. Mark’s Square in Venice, a masterpiece of Venetian Gothic architecture. There is also a Palazzo Ducale collection, with the familiar rosetta motif inspired by the long rows of Venetian quatrefoils carved above the loggia or terraces that face the piazza. The look, with its satin finishes, twisted gold rope and diamond accents, is classic and harmonious, like the pure lines of Venetian architecture.
“Inspiration is one of my favorite words. It usually comes to me in different ways from my travels, from my own culture and from my curiosity. I pay attention to all fashion shows and the way women dress in different countries. I pay attention to arts and to nature and the animal world. I am always very attentive to understanding what is missing in the market and moving my creativity towards that but always following the fashion world.” ~Roberto Coin

Anyone who remembers the legendary Appassionata collection that was originally introduced in the 1990s, with its familiar woven gold motif, will be delighted to see a modified version of this design return in the new Veneto collection. There are flexible or hard-woven pieces, including bangles and rings. The look is lush and very textured. This is a perfect time for lucky charms, and Roberto’s newMedallion collection is a modern interpretation of the spirit of talisman jewelry. Medallions are great way to express your personality, with motifs drawn from the Roberto Coin DNA, including four-petal flowers, zodiacs, and initials. Each medallion hangs on a 20-inch chain that can be clasped as a lariat or worn at different lengths. Each has a bale that opens, so you can adjust its location: clip it on a Y neck or hang
it as a pendant. There are also functional lockets in the collection. As ever, many of Roberto’s collections are punctuated with diamond, ruby, emerald, or sapphire highlights, in addition to the unique look of malachite, mother-of-pearl, and black jade. And finally, one of this year’s most unique new additions is an 18k gold zipper necklace! It functions as an actual zipper, with a tongue that can be pulled up or down along tiny golden teeth. It can be adjusted to the desired length and has a clasp at the back so you can take it off without having to zip it back down again. The clasp, tongue, and little balls at the end of each chain can be set with diamonds. Bellissimo!
PERFECT FOR STACKING Layering and stacking is one of today’s hottest trends, and Roberto Coin has so many great options that span multiple collections and styles. A variety of slim stacking bracelets allow you to create a signature look, and mixing chunkier bangles delivers powerful style statements. Mix and match tones of white, yellow, and rose gold to create variety and pick a few set with gemstones for extra oomph. Roberto Coin creates multiple shapes and textures to give you compelling options to mix and match.

THE MAGIC OF
B
ecause gemstones are created by nature, people have always believed they have a special energy and mystical properties. Belief in gem powers has existed for nearly 5,000 years. Depending on the era and the civilization, colored stones have been associated with wealth, power, love, safety, and wellbeing. Some people think gem lore is silly — how could a simple rock have such power? I would argue that wearing a beautiful gemstone has the power to promote
emotional wellbeing and strength just by making you feel beautiful and powerful. Gemstones allow us to illuminate our individual spirits and express our sense of style. Everyone responds to color, and each hue works its own special, secret magic. From amethyst and garnet to the finest rubies and emeralds, jewelry designers are constantly finding new ways of conveying that power. Here are some recent examples and a glimpse into the special magic of gem colors.
RED
RUBY: Like no other gemstone, the ruby is the perfect way to express powerful feelings. Ruby symbolizes bravery, determination, and passionate energy. A ring set with a precious ruby is a celebration of love, which makes everything else possible. It is also the July birthstone and the gem of the 40th anniversary.

SAPPHIRE: A gift of sapphire symbolizes a pledge of trust, loyalty, and sincerity. It is from this tradition that sapphire has long been a popular choice for engagement rings. The gift of sapphire is a pledge to keep promises. It is also the birthstone of September. Like ruby, it is one of the most prized of gems, due to its hardness and highly saturated color. BLUE

GREEN TOURMALINE: Tourmaline is a relatively modern gemstone, reaching wide popularity only in the 1970s. It is said to have special healing properties and the ability to release a wholesome energy to all parts of the body, enhancing courage, strength, and stamina. With a hardness of 7-7.5, tourmaline is quite resistant to scratching, chipping, and cracking, making it an excellent choice for everyday wear.
GREEN
EMERALD: The ancient Egyptians believed emerald represented fertility and rebirth, as well as hope and loyalty. It was associated with the Greek goddess Venus, who represented love and beauty, and in several cultures as diverse as Chinese and Irish, it has long represented good luck. Emerald has even been credited with improving one’s memory and intelligence and transforming negativity into positive emotional energy.

AMETHYST: In addition to bringing peace, happiness, and emotional well-being, amethyst is credited with the power to enhance your intuition and psychic powers, resulting in good fortune. It was also believed to protect you from snake bites and evil spirits. Amethyst is readily available in large sizes, so it is not unusual to see it as the center stone in bold cocktail rings — the perfect gift for a fifth wedding anniversary or a February birthday.
TANZANITE: The deep purple of Tanzanite makes it one of the most elegant gemstones on earth. It is associated with the power of communication and with a vibrational energy that invites protection and safety. Tanzanite is relatively rare and sometimes costly, found in only one place in the world, the Merelani Hills in Tanzania, East Africa. PURPLE

PINK SAPPHIRE: Pink is one of the most popular and most beautiful of the many vibrant colors of sapphire. It represents intuition, clarity, and self- mastery. It stimulates the emotions of love, forgiveness, and acceptance. Like all sapphires, it is a very hard gem, and thus suitable for any form of jewelry. It lends an extra-feminine air to any jewelry design.
MORGANITE: Morganite is a beryl and, therefore, gemologically related to aquamarine and emerald. It has a dazzling brilliance and comes in soft colors that range from clear pink to warm peach. There is a gentle pink energy associated with morganite that promotes healing, compassion, assurance, and promise. With a hardness of 7.5, morganite is a durable gem that is well-suited for everyday wear.

he Pasha, first introduced in 1985, is so-called because it was based on a design previously commissioned by the Pasha of Marrakech, Thami El Glaoui. The Pasha was a watch connoisseur and a client of Cartier’s since the mid-1920s. The special order was placed in 1943 and referenced in Cartier’s archives. It later made its way into Cartier’s regular collection, and although it launched as a men’s watch, the Pasha famously became a favorite among women. Cartier eventually labeled it as unisex and began creating models for both men and women, in both 41 mm and 35 mm sizes. Over the years, the design was widely copied by other brands for ladies’ watches.
The relaunched Pasha retains the signature elements of the original, including the square inner chapter ring framed by a round case, fluted crown cover, sword- shaped hands, and the distinctive Arabic font for the numerals 12, 3, 6, and 9 — a departure for Cartier, which is known for its Roman numerals. It also retains the distinctive bracelet connectors, along with a more subtle version of the original decorative chain that attaches the crown to the case. And there’s a special bonus: Cartier left a flat surface under the chain that can be engraved with a personalized message that can only be seen when the chain is removed.
The new Pasha de Cartier is a full collection, available in 18k yellow and pink gold, along with a much-anticipated stainless steel version that makes it immediately accessible. There are also diamond-set and jewelry pieces and a rare skeletonized model. There are several strap options, as well, which are easily interchangeable. The new movement is Cartier’s automatic caliber 1847 MC, with a 40-hour power reserve. It is water resistant to 100 meters, which keeps it squarely on the sportier side of dress watches, despite its decorative elements. Fit for a Pasha or a princess!

GETS A COLOR BOOST olor is emerging as a strong trend in watches. New shades are showing up not just in sports watches, which have traditionally flashed brightly colored dial highlights to enhance readability, but also in dress watches, with artfully hued dials that add extra style and personality. Seiko is at the forefront of the trend, with new pieces in both its dressy Presage collection and its sporty Diver’s collection, showing off subtly colored dials. Blue and green are the most prominent colors in dial tones at the moment. Blue is the color of casual sportiness, and it looks good with cases and bracelets in any metal: white, rose, or yellow. Green is a statement maker that symbolizes nature, youth, and spring time. From forest green to military green to pastel hues, green is a color for individualists. Other colors, such as rust, brown and ice blue, are even more unique and have the power to create a strong sense of individual style. C

The signature feature of Seiko’s Presage collection is the artistic dials. Shadows and light play over the peaks and valleys of artfully textured dials, a feature that is emphasized and brought to life with added color. The sports watches are also getting a color lift. As one of the brands that helped to develop water resistant watches in the 1940s, Seiko is now famous for its wide range of professionally rated dive watches. The Automatic Diver’s watch line is water resistant to 200 meters, and contains an automatic mechanical movement. The unidirectional rotating bezel is designed to time deep dives, and the luminescent hands and markers are guaranteed to offer optimum visibility under water. The new ice blue and green dials make these watches as fashionable as they are tough.

FIVE TIPS FOR COLLECTING PRE-OWNED WATCHES
I
b y C A R O L B E S L E R
3. SIZE MATTERS. Large watches are a fad. Some really look good, but consider your wrist size, because an oversized watch on a small wrist looks sloppy. If you do buy a large watch, make sure your shirt cuffs will fit over it. You don’t want to have to redo your wardrobe to fit your watch. 4. MAINTAIN, BUT WITH CAUTION: If you’re buying a vintage watch, make sure it’s in good shape or that it can be repaired or restored. And if you own a good watch, make sure it gets serviced every few years, but never polish the case or engrave the back: original cases fetch a premium on the secondary market. 5. QUALITY, NOT QUANTITY: Buy the best quality you can afford; otherwise it will be difficult to trade up for any real value. A collection of four exceptional watches is better than a collection of 10 mediocre ones. Be selective. Buy what you love, not what you think others will love. Buying strictly for investment can easily end in frustration and saddle you with a collection you will never enjoy.
s watch collecting an investment? Sure, it can be, but watch collecting, at any level, is also a passion. Wearing a pre-owned timepiece that you love, or one that exudes status or style, is one of life’s great pleasures. Here are five tips for first-time pre-owned buyers. 1. VISIT THE PRE-OWNED WATCH DEPARTMENT OF A REPUTABLE RETAILER. Buying from your trusted, bricks-and mortar retailer is all about knowing your seller and being able to see a watch before you buy. Their pre-owned watches are usually sourced from the store’s other customers, who are trading up by selling off other perfectly good timepieces from their collections. 2. IN-HOUSE MOVEMENTS MATTER. An in-house movement or a fine base caliber generally translates into more value for your watch. In-house movements are made by the brand name on the dial and often developed specifically for the watches in which they are cased.

JEWELRY MAKES AN IDEAL GIFT FOR A MAN AND HAS A SIGNIFICANCE THAT JUST CAN’T BE ACCOMPLISHED WITH A NECKTIE.
Early man used shells and beads to create jewelry for self adornment. Anthropologists say this urge to adorn wasn’t a necessity of life, but a way of expressing kinship, status, age, and other personality characteristics. While jewelry today is made from more precious materials than those in the Stone Age, it is worn for similar reasons, and increasingly by men. In the past decade alone, the array of jewelry available to men has dramatically expanded beyond cufflinks and watches. As more men wear jewelry, they develop wardrobes consisting of pieces that can be worn when they want to look polished and professional (cufflinks, for instance), casual and chic (a dog tag pendant or bracelet), for spiritual or sentimental reasons (a cross, Star of David, or initial signet ring). While many young men’s first experience with jewelry involves wearing colorful silicone bracelets, they soon graduate to more durable and precious materials, and what an array there is to choose from: 18k gold, sterling silver, titanium, cobalt, stainless steel, high-tech ceramic, rubber, carbon fiber and enamel. Precious gems such as diamonds and other stones have become just as popular with men as they have with women. Black diamonds, black sapphires, cognac diamonds and other colored diamonds are now an accepted and popular staple in men’s jewelry. But also look for more varied and interesting colored gemstones and minerals, including fossils. Jewelry makes an ideal gift for a man and has a significance that just can’t be accomplished with a necktie — and there’s no need to worry about waist size or cuff lengths, when selecting bracelets or pendants. One of the most popular styles for fall is bead bracelets, which can be worn singly or stacked with other bracelets.

THE FOLLOWING LIST OF TRENDS AND OPTIONS IN MEN’S JEWELRY SHOULD GIVE YOU SOME IDEAS FOR BUILDING YOUR ACCESSORIES WARDROBE:
• Blackened metals, including oxidized sterling silver, ruthenium silver, black rhodium-plated gold, black titanium and black PVD plating. • Pavé-set black diamonds, black sapphire or cognac or brown diamonds details on all categories of men’s jewelry. • Exotic stone beaded bracelets, often with spiritual, religious or symbolic medallions or charms. • Burnished, distressed and other matte finishes on most metals or combined with high polish for a dramatic contrast. • Leathers, from woven to wrapped looks, make a masculine and comfortable statement, especially in bracelets. • Rubber or silicone continues to be a stylish yet sporty, all-season material that is perfect for active lifestyles. • Inspired by timepieces: rose gold colored cufflinks, rings and pendants. • Emergence of Western spiritual symbols as design motifs, in addition to the already popular symbols from Eastern philosophies. • Updated dog tags remain an important look in pendants. Look for more cylindrical, bullet-like shaped pendants.
• Ancient Japanese inspired mokume patterns in mixed metals, with swirling surface designs, especially on rings, money clips, pens and knives. • Inlays of precious opaque and exotic stones in traditional malachite, lapis lazuli, tiger’s eye, falcon’s eye, as well as unusual varieties such as agates, jaspers, pietersite, fossilized ivory, mammoth and corals. • Nautical or yachting inspired motifs and textures on chains, links and decorative pieces: sailor’s knots, anchors, compass points, North star, mariner links. • Collectible and limited-edition pens and knives: examples of “the true combination of functional art and jewelry,” says Matt Conable, founder and designer of William Henry Studio.
• Decorative golf-inspired designs, from cufflinks to fairway divot tools.
• For formal and special social occasions, a dress set, comprised of studs that coordinate — not matched exactly — with your cufflinks. • Customized or engravable jewelry: from classic signet rings and cufflinks to biker jewelry. Look for places on jewelry where you can add hidden or covert names, messages and symbols.

HOW TO SAY THANK YOU WITH PANACHE CORPORATE GIFT GUIDE
Whether you are congratulating and thanking longtime employees, top performers in your organization, or valued clients, corporate gifting is reaching new levels of sophistication. More than ever, people want to gift something that has lasting value and quality, like jewelry or watches. Giving a corporate gift humanizes a business, and it pays off when it comes to gaining loyalty from both employees and clients. The gift should not only be memorable but filled with meaning. A quality timepiece has the power to become an heirloom. It can be passed on through generations, and it symbolizes the passage of time, including the memories and milestones created along the way. A watch has particular emotional value when it is customized, either with a personalized message, a monogram, or a company logo. Many top brands now offer this service. Swiss brand TAG Heuer, for example, will customize its mechanical watches with company logos, engravings, or other personalized elements.

Jewelry is full of symbolism that adds extra meaning to the celebration of an occasion, an achievement, a birth, or to express gratitude and respect. Jewelry has the power to reflect our values, beliefs, culture, status, accomplishments, and milestones, and it makes the perfect commemorative gift. Diamonds have long been an important part of celebrating career anniversaries. A diamond tie tack, cufflinks, a personalized charm, a brooche, or a singular bangle to add to a stack are all great ways to commemorate a career achievement, mark a five- or ten-year anniversary, or thank a valued client. Gemstones also have the power to be highly symbolic. Matching a gemstone to a corporate color speaks volumes. Or you could choose a color for its symbolic meaning: emerald represents loyalty; ruby symbolizes courage and determination; and sapphire is believed to foster prosperity. Gemstone jewelry can also serve as a talisman, bringing the wearer good luck and protection from ill fortune. Having trouble deciding on the perfect way to thank or congratulate someone? Do it with a gift card! Gift certificates are the perfect corporate gifts, because nothing is more fun that shopping for yourself. A gift card can be transformed into any size, color, or style, so it is always the perfect fit.

NEW LIFE WHEN (AND HOW) TO RESTYLE AN OLD ENGAGEMENT RING —NEW STYLE
Diamonds are forever, but sometimes their settings become out of date. Or maybe the relationship celebrated by the diamond has ended and the ring is languishing at the back of your jewelry box. Whatever the reason, never waste a perfectly good diamond! If you have an unworn diamond ring, recycle it. Let our experts reset it into a new piece of jewelry that will bring you years of wearing pleasure. Like diamonds, unique as snowflakes, every woman’s story is different. For example, some couples didn’t have the money to buy a large, fine-quality diamond the first time around, so the stone in the engagement ring is smaller than they would have liked it to be. Maybe a number of years have gone by and the styling of the engagement ring is no longer fashionable. Or, maybe the engagement ring has been inherited from a friend or family member, and its style or size doesn’t quite suit the new owner. Generally speaking, if the sentiment associated with the diamond is positive, the easiest solution is to reset the stone into another ring. Maybe you’d like to keep a similar style in the ring but change the metal. Or maybe it’s the setting that needs upgrading. If the center diamond is less than one carat in size, add a sparkling frame of pavé to make the center stone appear

larger and raise its sparkle quotient. Perhaps turning a solitaire into a three-stone ring is the answer: instead of using tiny diamonds to upgrade the ring, consider adding two side diamonds in a complementary shape, such as trillions, half moons, or baguettes. Or, go for a non- traditional look and set the diamond in a band with other smaller stones to create an anniversary ring.
