2022 CUES We emerged from lockdown in the spring to the vibrant neon energy of bright pinks, yellows, greens, and aquas. Those colors linger as accents as we transition into a range of comforting new neutrals for the fall, including saturated oranges, deep reds, and forest greens. Some of this year’s color combinations are surprising: Pantone’s top two colors of the year are the stony shades of Ultimate Gray and Illuminating, a golden buttercup yellow that will warm your heart. The two colors look great together — who would have thought? — and Vogue magazine called them the standout colors of 2021.
RED epitomizes old Hollywood glamour and is a red-carpet classic. From bright cherry to deep crimson, celebrities including Tracee Ellie Ross and Sarah Paulson donned gowns in the trending shade at this year’s Emmy Awards in couture designs by Valentino and Carolina Herrera, respectively. Sport the vibrant hue for an evening on the town by draping a chic red dress with a red faux fur coat, or try red suiting separates to step up your workwear style. Incorporate red in more subtle ways on the soles of your favorite heels (hello Christian Louboutin) or by designing your look around ruby encrusted jewels.
EMERALD hues have popped back into fashion in a big way this year. Originally romanticized by icons such as Jackie Kennedy Onassis and Elizabeth Taylor in the 1950’s, emeralds stunned this year on super-celebs including Zendaya, who wore a 93-carat Bulgari emerald necklace at the premier of ‘Dune’ at the Venice
Film Festival earlier this fall. The Queen’s Gambit star and blooming fashion icon, Anya Taylor-Joy stunned in the rich green hue in a custom Dior gown and matching floor-length cape to virtually attend this year’s Golden Globes. One thing is for sure, emerald green is here to stay, both in your jewelry box and your closet.
