T he name “BJ Nichols” might bring to mind things like diamonds, watches, or maybe even designer jewelry—and while the President and CEO of Reis-Nich- ols Jewelers is an expert in the jewelry industry—what you might not know is that he has a bur- geoning passion for racing. for two seasons, winning a pole position that same year, and was a regular podium finisher. While Dan has re- mained active in other areas of the sport, 2023 is his comeback year to full-time competition. THE TEAM IS BORN BJ first met Clarke at The Club at Putnam Park, an exclusive motorsports country club in Greencastle, IN, where Dan is the premier driving coach. Motivat- ed by Clarke’s excitement at the idea of competing in the Porsche Carrera Cup series, BJ rallied a few of his friends, along with some fellow race enthusiasts from Putnam Park—and Reis-Nichols Motorsports was born. “It’s been an exciting season,” Clarke says. “This is a competitive series. There has been a lot to learn about the car, but the Porsche is fantastic. Finishing the year (like we have) with three straight podium finishes was really beyond our expectations for our first year.” A SPEEDY START Joining forces with Nolasport Racing, one of Porsche’s premier race teams in the US, the Reis-Nichols Motor- sports 992 GT3 Cup Car has found great success com- peting in its inaugural trek across the country in the 2023 Porsche Carrera Cup North American Series. At the time of print, Clarke currently holds fifth po- sition in the points standings after 14 races and has had growing success throughout the season. In this year’s “rookie” season, the experienced pro- fessional has finished in the top 10 in ten races, earning a top-five finish in eight of those races. The team has been on the podium three times: at Road America, In- dianapolis Motor Speedway, and Rennsport Reunion at the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. A PASSION FOR PORSCHE
This passion led BJ, an avid Porsche enthusiast, to form what is now known as Reis-Nichols Motorsports. He was inspired to create a race team to compete in the Porsche Deluxe Carrera Cup Pro series focused on showcasing driver Dan Clarke’s tal- ents. “I knew Dan was a talented driver,” explained Nichols. “And I was thrilled to see him take on this new challenge and make his mark in the Carrera Cup Series.” NO ROOKIE RACER “Speedy” Dan Clarke, the Indianap- olis-based, British-born racer, is no rookie. Clarke started his racing ca- reer at age eight, with his racing ex- perience now spanning several disci- plines and decades. In 2006, Dan debuted his racing talents in the United States, compet- ing in the Champ Car Series. He ran
