Reis-Nichols Magazine Fall_Winter 2023

Now, the future of Choc-Ola® rests in the hands of Dave Hunter, a 38-year veteran in the food and beverage industry, and his partner Marshall Welton. Together, they aim to continue the legacy and growth of a household name. “We will market to the five footprint states: Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Kentucky, and Southern Michigan. But in the next three or four years, we hope to go nationwide,” Hunter stated. Having grown up on the southside, Hunter also happens to be a Reis-Nichols customer and a family acquaintance. He recalls playing many rounds of golf with William (Bill) Nichols, Sr. and even attended BJ’s wedding reception at the invitation of his good friend, Robin Walls. “There are many ties here with the Nichols family,” Hunter said. “That’s what happens when you’re a Southsider—the fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree.”

Using his decades of experience building food and beverage brands right here in Central Indiana, Hunter plans on doing the same with Choc-Ola®. Two flavor extensions are also in the works: Strawberry & Cream and Orangesicle. But for now, Hunter declares the chocolate just as good as he (and many) remember it—as it should be since he’s using the original recipe! For some, Choc-Ola® will bring back memories. But for many more, Choc-Ola® will be at the center of new ones. So, be on the lookout for that happy little cow on a shelf near you!
