Reis-Nichols Magazine Fall_Winter 2023

the help of jewelers like Rudy and Brent, Reis-Nichols has achieved an enviable reputation in the region and beyond for custom-designed jewelry. Whether creating engagement rings or other heirlooms of the future, the process starts with a consultation and only ends when a client’s vision has been perfectly realized— most often right in the workshops on the Reis-Nichols premises. “I enjoy working with customers and salespeople,” says Brent, Reis-Nichols’ Master CAD designer. “A customer will come in with an idea or photos, and then I’ll do a rendering and prototype models. I want to be sure I understand what the customer has in mind.” After the idea is manifested digitally, a 3D wax or resin likeness is produced and shared with the client for approval. “Brent is an amazing talent,” Jennifer Demmary, Vice President of Operations, explains. “He pioneered CAD design at Reis- Nichols and revolutionized the design experience. He and Rudy bring people’s vision to life. I can’t imagine a better duo to work with on a jewelry design!” “Rudy and I have worked together long enough now that I don’t have to ask him as many questions because I know how he likes the pieces made [in order to best set the stones],” the designer adds. “It makes communication pretty easy between us.” Reis-Nichols utilizes a variety of precious metals for its jewelry, and the jewelers hand-set stones to perfection, always pairing the size and cut with the optimal setting. Rudy adds that Brent executes impressive designs, and the stones—his [Rudy’s] specialty—bring the pieces to life. “I love getting into a job that may be ten or 12 hours of stone setting, taking a piece from a shell to its finished form,” Rudy explains. When asked about his favorite gemstone, he advised, “You can never go wrong with diamonds. They vary in shape, size, and quality, and they make me feel happy inside. Maybe because they’re part of the Earth.” Outside of work, the two have similarly contemplative outdoor interests—but there is one minor flaw in the seemingly ideal connection: an ongoing dispute about who has been “on the job” literal minutes longer than the other. This, we suspect, will likely remain amicably unresolved.
