There is ample natural beauty in the area, starting with the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge. It spans 9,108 acres of barrier islands, dunes, beach woodland, freshwater marshes, maritime forests, ponds and ocean beaches. It’s one of the few remaining places you can see endangered species, like loggerhead sea turtles, piping plovers, peregrine falcons, and bald eagles. Kids love it, and it offers opportunities to teach them about conservation.
The nearby bayside First Landing State Park is another awesome spot, with ponds, dunes, hiking trails and a mile of pristine beachfront. Officially, it marks the 1607 arrival of the Jamestown colonists from England. While the boardwalk was built for cyclists and walkers. It’s also fun to take a horseback ride right on the beach at a pace that gives you time to savor the beauty.
Fink’s Jewelers, located at 1612 Laskin Road in the Shops at Hilltop, is a proud member of this bustling community. The Shops at Hilltop have been repeatedly chosen as “Best Shopping Center in Virginia Beach” over the past 25 years, receiving awards from both Virginia Media and Coastal Virginia Magazine. The Shops at Hilltop are a great mix of 120 award-winning boutiques, including curated brands, national and local retailers, multiple dining options, and convenient services. What started in the 1940s as family farmland has evolved into one of Virginia Beach’s largest, most popular, upscale retail districts. Fink’s Jewelers is also very involved in the wider community, working with several organizations, including the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD). “We have enjoyed a wonderful and very meaningful relationship with Fink’s Jewelers for over a decade,” says Lisa Coleman, executive director of CHKD. “I have worked closely with Fink’s to help raise about $1.5-million for CHKD over the years.” These funds have helped fund a neonatal intensive care transport unit, a pediatric sports medicine facility and, most recently, a new pediatric mental health hospital. “Community partnerships like this are vital to our fundraising efforts,” says Coleman. “We are truly grateful to the Fink’s family, and tremendously enjoy working with the Fink’s team at the Virginia Beach store.” Whether you visit the area for this close sense of community, world class institutions, fine shopping, or natural beauty, it is truly easy to fall in love with Virginia Beach.
