The 60th-anniversary edition of the Porsche 911 S/T is a commemorative lightweight edition built to extract as much driving enjoyment from the 911 platform as possible. It’s a collector’s item from day one, with a limited run of 1,963 units. The directive to the engineers at Porsche was simple: create a purpose-built machine for a pure, undiluted driving experience.
The starting point was the original 911 S version from 1969, tweaked for competitive racing. The new 911 S/T embodies the spirit of the original 911 S for the current generation of the venerable Porsche 911. It’s the lightest model of its generation, at 3,056 lbs., or 70 lbs. lighter than its sibling, the manual GT3 Touring. Many components, including the hood, roof, doors, and front
fenders, are crafted from carbon fiber- reinforced plastic. Insulation and rear-axle steering were left off the assembly list to save a few pounds. The magnesium wheels and ceramic composite brakes omit additional unnecessary weight. These engineering decisions contribute to agile and direct handling.
