WELCOME

Celebrating precious moments together

Loyal Clients, Friends & Family,

As we welcome the 2025 Spring/Summer edition of Bachendorf’s Magazine , I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for your continued trust in Bachendorf’s. As a family-owned business, we take great pride in serving generations of customers, helping you celebrate life’s most meaningful moments with jewelry and timepieces that last a lifetime. While we look into the future, I am especially proud to see the next generation of our family stepping into the business. My daughter, Fallon, joined Bachendorf’s in 2019, carrying forward our family’s legacy and passion for fine jewelry and Swiss timepieces along with exceptional service. Her involvement is a reminder that while we continue to grow, our values remain the same — loyalty, honesty and quality. Recently, my wife Katy and I had the opportunity to visit the De Beers headquarters in London, deepening our appreciation for the journey of natural diamonds — from their rare origins to the expertly crafted designs we bring to you. This experience reaffirmed our commitment to offering only the finest, most authentic diamonds, ensuring that every piece we carry reflects both timeless beauty and lasting value.

Thank you for being part of the Bachendorf’s family. We look forward to helping you celebrate life’s moments for generations to come.

Warmest regards,

OUR STORY

For the past four generations and over 100 years, the Bock family tradition has been creating fine jewelry. Abram Bock learned the trade as an apprentice in 1900 in St. Petersburg, Russia, where he married the daughter of his jewelry instructor. Abram moved to Memel, Germany in 1928 where he had a flourishing jewelry business. Abram, his son Harry, and his daughter, Ali, came to Dallas in 1947 where Abram’s four brothers had settled before the war. Abram opened A. Bock Manufacturing Jeweler (now known as Bock Jewelry Co., Inc.) in a downtown Dallas storefront in 1948 and started his business repairing jewelry. As the business grew, Abram began selling diamonds, using his connections in Belgium from before the war. During this time, Abram’s son Harry was busy learning to speak English, and six years after his arrival in America he graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri with a major in retailing. After college, Harry returned to Dallas and worked for other retail jewelry stores until he joined his father’s business in 1955. Harry learned the jewelry business under his father’s watchful eye and found that he had a special gift for the purchasing and marketing of diamonds. He made his first buying trip to Belgium in 1962 and helped his father grow his business. Harry took over his father’s business when Abram passed away in 1968. Harry opened the first Bachendorf’s store in 1977 and ran the family business until he passed away in 2010. Harry’s son, Lawrence, carries on the family businesses upholding the Bock family values of loyalty, honesty and quality as their foundation. It is these family values that will continue the Bachendorf’s jewelry tradition for generations to come. Bachendorf’s continues to celebrate family and milestones with the finest hand-selected diamonds, designer jewelry and timepieces. Since opening their first retail store in 1977, the Bachendorf’s family is proud to serve its community with unique custom and designer jewelry to ensure a memorable experience every time you walk through their doors. Their sales professionals, watchmakers, and gemologists are among the best in their fields.

In an evening filled with heart, hope, and a whole lot of furry love, Bachendorf’s proudly partnered with the SPCA of Texas for Fur Ball 2024, a night dedicated to raising funds for North Texas’ most vulnerable animals. Held at the Frontiers of Flight Museum, the gala’s theme was “You’re My Best Friend,” bringing animal lovers together for an unforgettable celebration. Katy and Lawrence Bock, the 2024 Fur Ball Chairs, shared their passion for animal welfare by helping to raise essential funds through live and silent auctions, a Paddle Raise, and generous donations. Guests enjoyed cocktails, a seated dinner, and live music from the Georgia Bridgwater Orchestra, all while meeting animals whose lives have been transformed by the SPCA of Texas. The 2024 gala raised more than $490,000 and funds went directly to supporting rescue efforts, medical care, and adoption programs—making the evening a true success for the community and its four-legged friends.

Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II

THE COSMOPOLITAN WATCH

The Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II is designed to display the time in two different time zones simultaneously. Robust and functional, it is the ideal watch for criss-crossing the globe.

BORN TO TRAVEL With its two time-zone display, the GMT-Master, launched in 1955, was originally developed as a navigation instrument for professionals criss-crossing the globe. Heir to the original model, the GMT-Master II was unveiled in 1982 with a new movement ensuring ease of use. Its combination of peerless functionality, robustness, and distinctive aesthetics made it an icon.

L aunched in 1955, the GMT-Master witnessed the rapid expansion of intercontinental travel in the latter half of the 20th century. It even became the official watch of Pan American World Airways, the most prominent American international airline at the time. The GMT-Master, a true “tool watch”, evolved continually to offer increasing technical performance. In 1982, Rolex introduced a new movement that allowed the hour hand to be set independently of the other hands. To clearly mark this evolution, the model fitted with the optimized movement was named the GMT-Master II.

The GMT-Master II has an instantly recognizable design with a graduated bezel insert, which is available in various dual- colour combinations — the lower half symbolizing daytime and the upper signalling night-time. With traditional hour, minute, and seconds hands, its triangle-tipped 24-hour hand and bidirectional rotatable bezel with a 24-hour graduated Cerachrom insert, the GMT-Master II can display the time in two time zones simultaneously: either the local time and the reference time, or the local time and that of an alternative time zone. The latest GMT-Master II is equipped with calibre 3285, a self-winding mechanical movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. A consummate demonstration of technology, it offers outstanding performance in terms of precision, power reserve, convenience and reliability. It is fitted with the exclusive blue Parachrom hairspring and also incorporates the patented Chronergy escapement. The movement’s power reserve extends to approximately 70 hours. A year later, the gray and black insert was introduced on the Oystersteel version of the watch — a material that celebrates the identity of the original model, which was only available in steel at its launch. Superlative chronometer certification Like all Rolex watches, the GMT-Master II is covered by the Superlative Chronometer certification. This designation testifies that every watch leaving the brand’s workshops has successfully undergone a series of tests conducted by Rolex in its own laboratories, according to its own criteria. scratchproof and keeps its vibrant colors over time. Rolex broke new ground in 2013 when it introduced its first two-color, single-piece ceramic bezel insert — blue on one half and black on the other. One year later, the brand released a Cerachrom insert in red and blue — the GMT-Master’s original colors. It carried out pioneering research to develop a red ceramic corresponding to its aesthetic and quality criteria. Over the years, Rolex presented other color combinations such as brown and black (2018), and green and black (2022) — on a version with the crown and crown guard on the left side of the case and the date display at 9 o’clock. In 2023, a grey and black Cerachrom insert was unveiled on a yellow Rolesor version of the GMT-Master II as well as on a version entirely crafted from 18k yellow gold.

TAG Heuer CARRERA CHRONOGRAPH PANDA

Introduced in 1963 and named after the legendary Carrera Panamericana Road race, the TAG Heuer Carrera has defined the wristwatch chronograph genre for over six decades. TAG Heuer now introduces its latest Carrera Chronograph, which draws inspiration from a vintage model and comes fitted with a striking silver and black “Panda” dial. It was Jack Heuer who designed the Carrera, focused on creating a chronograph with an uncluttered, functional dial. While he developed countless Carrera creations, it is the 7753 SN from the late 1960s that serves as inspiration for this newest iteration. Maintaining the spirit of legibility, the black azuré subdials at 3 and 9 o’clock contrast with the silver sunray-brushed dial, creating the signature bi-compax “panda” look. The addition of captivating, red-lacquered sub-dial hands further amplifies the contrast, ensuring clarity at a glance.

To further elevate readability, the watch incorporates TAG Heuer’s iconic glass box design, set to become a staple of the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph line. The 39 mm steel case, topped with a sapphire crystal reminiscent of 1970s Heuer Carrera models, has been redeveloped where the crystal flows seamlessly over the tachymeter scale and into the case. The contrasting black curved flange and curved rhodium-plated indexes contribute to the watch’s cohesive aesthetic.

watch reveals the in-house automatic Caliber Heuer 02 (Ref. TH20-00) chronograph movement that drives the watch with 80 hours of power reserve. The new Carrera Chronograph Panda not only builds upon the Carrera’s rich heritage but also embodies the innovation and avant-garde spirit for which TAG Heuer is renowned.

The rhodium-plated central hand features a red-lacquered tip, catching the eye when reading the time. The black seconds hand ensures a clear distinction. Notably, each 5-second interval is marked in red, enhancing visibility. This also marks the first time the redesigned Carrera Chronograph is fitted with a steel bracelet, a welcome addition to the line. The back of the

FASHION takes center stage

Fashion Group International (FGI) boasts a rich history dating back to 1928. Founded by a group of trailblazing women in New York City, FGI’s mission has remained constant: to empower and connect professionals across all facets of the fashion industry. From design and merchandising to retail and media, FGI fosters a vibrant community that celebrates creativity and innovation. FGI’s impact extends far beyond its New York City headquarters. The Dallas chapter, one of the organization’s largest, continues to make its mark. Their recent “Night of Stars” gala, held on November 15th, 2024, exemplifies this dedication. The black-tie event, a cornerstone of FGI Dallas’ fundraising efforts, honored industry titans whose achievements have shaped the worlds of fashion, art, and design. This year’s “Night of Stars” gala, chaired by Fallon Bock, Melissa Ellis, Holly Quartaro, and Honorary Chair, Victoria Snee, recognized a stellar lineup of honorees.

DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT

roberto coin

Some designers create jewelry. Others redefine it.

A Visionary in the Art of Jewelry

For Roberto Coin, fine jewelry is not just an accessory but an expression of artistry, culture, and individuality. Since founding his brand in 1996, Coin has dedicated himself to creating pieces that transcend time, bringing Italian craftsmanship and global inspiration together in a way that has captivated the luxury world.

From the beginning, diversity and creativity have been at the heart of his vision. Unlike other designers who build their brand around a single recognizable motif, Coin has always sought endless reinvention, ensuring that no two collections feel the same. His mission is clear: rather than offering the same piece to every woman, his goal is to craft a different masterpiece for each, celebrating the unique beauty and personality of the wearer.

This philosophy extends beyond design and into the very DNA of his brand. Each creation is marked by a hidden ruby, a signature detail inspired by ancient Egyptian legend. Coin was drawn to the belief that rubies, worn close to the skin, bring prosperity and happiness. That is his personal wish for every woman who wears his jewelry — an intimate, unseen gesture of good fortune.

40 | B ACHENDORF’ S

By Jennifer Brugh

Pairing these philosophies and creations, Coin manages to balance tradition and innovation, making his brand one of the most dynamic forces in modern jewelry. At his Italian atelier, master artisans — some with decades of experience, others with fresh, modern perspectives — work side by side to bring his visions to life. Their process is one of meticulous craftsman- ship, where time-honored techniques merge with cutting-edge advancements to create jewelry that is both timeless and groundbreaking.

Beyond the world of jewelry, Coin is recognized as a pioneering spirit in fashion and design. His collections have graced the red carpet, appeared on the pages of top luxury publications, and influenced trends across the industry. Yet, despite his global recognition, his approach remains deeply personal. Every piece tells a story — a reflection of his own endless curiosity and passion for the arts.

FOR ROBERTO COIN, CREATIVITY IS FREEDOM, AND JEWELRY IS MORE THAN JUST AN ADORNMENT — IT IS A STATEMENT OF IDENTITY. WITH AN EVER-EVOLVING VISION AND AN UNRELENTING DRIVE TO SURPRISE, HE CONTINUES TO SHAPE THE FUTURE OF LUXURY, ONE MASTERPIECE AT A TIME.

CHIC @ CERÓN

of the CROWN

Very few people in this world have the status — or luxury — of being so recognizable that they can go by a single name moniker. Cher. Madonna. Prince. Beyonce. Cerón. How does one attain such a status? Let me tell you. It’s when fervent passion intersects with being really, really good at what you do. Flash back to the ’60s and ’70s, when young Gonzalo Cerón was growing up in Mexico City — a young boy with big dreams raised by a mother with a great sense of fashion and a flair for style. Life (and love) eventually took him to Paris, for a career in the hotel industry. But a passion for fashion, jewelry, and all things aesthetic lured him into a glamorous career in hairdressing. After years of following style and trends, noticing the smallest of details, he had finally found his personal version of art.

Soon, Cerón became an ardent student learn- ing the latest techniques, and he developed into a much sought-out stylist. From Catherine Deneuve to design icons such as Thierry Mugler, Claude Montana, and Emmanuel Ungaro, Cerón had a hand in the fashion and charity scene. In the most glamorous city in the world, a virtual who’s who of the design and fashion elite sought out his talents. He had arrived. Fast forward ten years, when a socialite visiting from Texas made a big impression. Or, let’s say, they both made big impressions on each other. Soon the Houston-based philanthropist was urging him to come to Houston. Cerón shares, “She just made me an offer that was too good to refuse. And, I had never even been to Texas!” He never looked back.

His star has only continued to rise. Fast forward again, and Cerón now owns three eponymous salons — two in Houston and one in ever-chic Highland Park Village. With a creative team of around 60, he cuts, colors, styles, and adorns some of the most bold- faced names in the state, while still catering to the celeb and fashion set (think Cindy Crawford, Vera Wang, Georgina Chapman, Salma Hayek, Carolina Herrera, and the list goes on...). Most recently, he went to Vogue HQ in New York — at the request of Allison Sarofim — actress, producer and the founder of Sixty-Six Production, and a longtime friend — for a tête-à-tête with Anna Wintour. Not surprisingly, he regularly appears on the list of most stylish in various publications around the globe.

52 | B ACHENDORF’ S

CERÓN FAVORITES

Piece of jewelry: I absolutely love it all. Necklaces, rings, broaches… I look like a Christmas tree! A fashionable one.

His personal life? That’s grown meteorically as well. When on a visit to Dallas to attend a charity event, Cerón met event and lifestyle guru, Todd Fiscus, and the rest is history. The two fell in love, married, and are now the parents of a six-year-old daughter. But domestic life hasn’t slowed him down. You’ll still find Cerón traveling among his three salons, coifing the chicest of chic clients, driving carpool, jetting to Europe for the latest couture shows, shopping (something he loves to do with his daughter, Emme), spending time at his Mexico home with his family, and cooking Mexican classic cuisine from his grandmother’s recipes. When asked about what’s next, the adopted-Texan only smiles and hints...

ORIGINALLY APPEARED IN ONLY NATURAL DIAMONDS NATURALDIAMONDS.COM

diamond facts TO ADDRESS THE MYTHS AND MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT THE DIAMOND INDUSTRY, THE NATURAL DIAMOND COUNCIL CONDUCTED RESEARCH TO BETTER UNDERSTAND THE QUESTIONS CONSUMERS HAVE ABOUT THE INDUSTRY AND TO PROVIDE THEM WITH STRAIGHT ANSWERS.

A natural diamond is a finite mineral created by nature consisting of a crystalline form of pure carbon, the hardest naturally occurring substance and formed deep within the Earth between 1-3 billion years ago. The word diamond alone always means a natural diamond. A laboratory grown diamond, also called a synthetic diamond or lab created diamond, is a man-made product that mimics the physical characteristics and optical properties of a natural diamond but can be made in unlimited quantities. 1 CAN YOU DETECT A LABORATORY-GROWN DIAMOND FROM A NATURAL DIAMOND? Yes! Because they are mass-produced in weeks, laboratory-grown diamonds have specific growth-related patterns, which can be easily detected using professional verification instruments. 2 HOW ARE NATURAL DIAMONDS ETHICALLY SOURCED? Under the Kimberley Process mandated by the United Nations and the World Trade Organization, all rough diamond trade is strictly regulated to ensure it is conflict-free. Other initiatives, such as the Responsible Jewellery Council, help warrant through 3rd party audited certifications that natural diamonds are sourced responsibly.

3 ARE ALL LABORATORY-GROWN DIAMONDS SUSTAINABLE?

The energy-intensive process to make laboratory-grown diamonds requires the generation of temperatures close to 20% of the temperature of the Sun’s surface. With most manufacturing happening in China and India, whose majority of grid electricity is generated from coal, it’s not possible to make a simplistic green claim. 4 WHAT HAVE BEEN THE PRICE TRENDS FOR LABORATORY-GROWN DIAMONDS? In 2016, a 1.5 carat laboratory-grown diamond cost $10,600 and in early 2023, it decreased to $2,445. While they also fluctuated over the last 25 years, natural diamonds have appreciated in price by approximately 3% on average each year. From 2016 to 2022, in some cases, the price of a 1.5 carat laboratory-grown diamond has decreased by over 75%!

5 ARE NATURAL DIAMONDS RARE?

7 DO NATURAL DIAMONDS BENEFIT THEIR COUNTRIES OF ORIGIN?

Yes! Global natural diamond recovery peaked in 2005 and has decreased by over 30% in the last 16 years. The annual recovery of all natural diamonds one carat and above can fill just one exercise ball. Diamond formation took place millions, sometimes billions, of years ago in limited zones on Earth. 6 WHAT IS THE NATURAL DIAMOND INDUSTRY DOING TO REDUCE ITS CARBON FOOTPRINT AND PROTECT BIODIVERSITY? The natural diamond industry has set out on its journey to decarbonize in line with global climate targets. Companies like the De Beers Group are committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2030 and Rio Tinto of achieving net zero emissions by 2050. Plus, the diamond industry actively protects the biodiversity covering an area four times larger in size than the land they use.

Yes! The natural diamond industry supports the livelihoods of ten million worldwide. Up to 80% of rough diamond value can remain with local communities thanks to local purchasing, employment benefits, social programs, investment in infrastructure as well as the taxes, royalties and dividends paid from the industry to respective governments.

8 HOW DO I KNOW WHETHER I’M PURCHASING A NATURAL OR A LABORATORY-GROWN DIAMOND? Any organization selling laboratory-grown diamonds, such as retailers or jewelers, are legally required to disclose that it is man-made and must use approved terminology when communicating with clients. 9 IS THE INDUSTRY STOCKPILING DIAMONDS TO DRIVE-UP PRICES? No. Bain & Company reported that inventories across the world declined by 40% in 2021 based on data from company reports and the Kimberley Certification process that governs the rough diamond trade.

10 WHAT ARE THE WORKING CONDITIONS LIKE IN THE DIAMOND INDUSTRY? NDC members ensure that working conditions are followed to the highest global standards within their mining operations. Plus, 99.7% of employees of NDC members are hired locally and one-third of the natural diamond mining industry are women.

11 ARE NATURAL DIAMONDS TRACEABLE?

The natural diamond industry is accelerating its traceability initiatives and leveraging technology like blockchain to bring transparency to its supply chains.
